Video: Obama vs Obama on stimulus

posted at 12:15 pm on July 17, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

It didn’t take long for the GOP to rip into the latest White House spin about Porkulus not being designed to stimulate the economy in the short run. The House Republican Conference produced this ad overnight and unveiled it at MS-NBC this morning, apparently hoping to reach those still outside the growing chorus of critics taking aim at the Obama administration:

Eastasia has always been at war with Oceania, Winston! Conservatives loudly argued that Porkulus wouldn’t stimulate in the short term during the debate in Congress over the bill.  Obama insisted on misrepresenting that argument as a demand to “do nothing” and claimed that the results would speak for themselves.  And so they have!  The only jobs that Obama can claim were “saved” were public-sector jobs, and even then, he’s misrepresenting what would have happened in the absence of Porkulus and its state grants.  The states would have had to cut jobs, but they would have had a wide range of choices for cutbacks; it’s highly unlikely that they would have started with teachers, police officers, and firefighters.  They would have started with bureaucrats — who belong to the SEIU for the most part, one of the Democratic Party’s most important contributors.

It’s a good ad.  Let’s see the GOP run this on a few other national networks.

Nice choice of O’s typography.
Every anti-O ad should use that typography to muscle into the minds of the people who can be persuaded.

It is working exactly as Obama intended. Destroy the private sector. This is Obama’s war on prosperity.

Good job GOP, keep this up!

So much for all those arguments for competence the left was making about Obama/Biden.

As others have said, if Obama was trying to destroy the economy would he have been doing anything significantly differently?

When will the political “guru” sector figure out that using someone’s own words is devastatingly effective?

Oh, right, the D’s already figured that out (see, e.g., past campaign, BHO ad using McCAIN talking about his friendship w/GWB and the “sound” state of the economy).

Well, BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.

And the field is fertile. This wacko (BHO) provides new ammo himself on a daily basis.

Good job!

Closer to five million NEW unemployed since February. 787,000 in May alone and the government’s accounting is a giant LIE.

We recently read an article here on HA that showed the actual numbers close to or over TWENTY PERCENT, when all the actual unemployed are counted.

Are you gonna wait for souplines and Obamaville in central park before you believe it?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090717/ap_on_bi_go_ec_fi/us_state_unemployment

They say unemployment is over 10% in 15 states. Its worse than that people.

With California as an example, I am going to have to disagree. Porkulus proves that dems will lie, cheat, and steal to keep govervnment in place.
It’s time to take the idea of sacrifice and apply it to government. When government sacrifices, that will allow private citizens to prosper.

Thunderstorm129 on July 17, 2009 at 12:52 PM

Prepare for an avalanche of counter-ads and MSM-whore spin, vids and photos of happy people in hard-hats, wielding shovels and operating bulldozers, as “proof” that the economy is roaring back towards unprecedented levels of prosperity.

The fly in the ointment is that people are going to get desperate as the economy gets worse, and they will be more than willing to accept whatever Ogabe offers them if it means putting food on the table. That’s his ultimate goal of course and it will be interesting to see how people respond next year in the elections.

The GOP message should be tax cuts and stopping the massive spending, period.

Bishop on July 17, 2009 at 12:53 PM

Great job GOP! One suggestion – we should all start doing this – instead of only using the words million, billion, trillion, quadrillion, show the digits…all those zeros would make a nice reminder of the O who is to blame for them!!

Let’s see-

Ramming through an unaffordable healthcare plan.

Ramming through an unafforadable energy plan that actually goes as far as dictating what kind of lightbulb you can purchase.

Massive spending without any sort of transparency so the money can be funnelled to ACORN and other radical supporters of the dictator.

No checks and balances for a system since government is utterly in the hands of one party. Any attempt at fiscal responsiblity is overridden and all the major legislation was done by the filthy Democrats alone.

Amnesty for all illegals and overturning DADT and throwing the military in turmoil is looming……..

The corrupt lying filthy rat bastard traitor in the White House is getting away with destroying America. I for one have had enough.

There is: they can vote to redirect the unspent money (which is most of it) to tax cuts, more productive (e.g., non-pork) efforts or simply – egad – scale back the total spending.

It’s not too late, but unfortunately while not impossible, it is improbably given the bitter partisanship in DC.

Just like those Soviet propaganda films showing the USSR as a worker’s paradise. The Obama version would include happy GM workers at the company their union was given by the people, a housewife cheerily replacing her incandescent light bulbs, a waiting room full of smiling people patiently and contentedly waiting for their turn to visit the doctor under Obamacare, and of course the shot of citizen and illegal hugging each other as friends who no longer view borders as barriers.
