Quote of the day

“Palin is controversial, in part, because America is divided over disability. We’ve established laws and institutions that protect people with disabilities. But we also do everything we can to make sure they don’t see the light of day.
Trig is a reminder of our fierce ambivalence over disability. Every mention of his name is a pinprick to our conscience. Every photo of mother and son is a reminder of concepts — vulnerability, dependency and suffering — our culture no longer tolerates, as well as virtues, such as humility, dignity and self-sacrifice, it no longer extols.
Trig is also a reminder of an inescapable truth: Disability is an inherent part of the human condition. At a time of deep cultural divisions, 1-year-old Trig Palin represents the deepest division of all, between a culture that increasingly sees genetic perfection as an entitlement and a culture still rooted in the belief that human beings are defined not by their capabilities but, instead, by the very fact of their humanity.”

Buck up, young camper. This is the beginning of the revolution! You have to be ready. You have to be prepared.
You cut your first demo….this is the time of your life….take it from someone who REALLY enjoyed her 20’s….you have responsibilities, heavy ones, later in life. Take it one day at a time and ENJOY yourself. You only get one chance to get it right!

OT: Mom Jeans coming up w/Laura Ingraham in 2 mins…
RD on July 17, 2009 at 11:54 PM
I just saw Laura Ingraham filling in for O’Reilly tear apart some left woman Elizabeth Carpenter. She was defending a portion of this House HC bill that requires mandatory counseling with Seniors every five years to “educate” on end of life measures like IV, antibiotics, feeding tubes etc that could prolong life. Laura hammered her but I just can’t believe this insane government would impose themselves to educate people about how they should end their lives.
Funny too, how when it comes to abortion counseling is a delay or denial of a woman’s right to choose but here it is necessary. Whatever it takes to limit the population seems to be the goal.

This Congress has no shame. The same Congressional idiots who were trying to force the vote on Paulson’s 3 page proposal (extended to 40 some odd pages of junk and tripe) while the rest of us warned them that they had no idea what they were doing, are now screaming at Paulson? This is beyond a joke. The only thing that held that Congress up were the House Republicans, who showed backbone and resisted their attempts to railroad that TARP through without any concept of what it was going to be used for.
I remember asking in these threads were Paulson got the $700 billion number, but none of those morons in Congress, who voted for it, ever asked. They should all be in jail, along with Paulson.

That’s not what I am reading on this thread.
The country was confused then and feared the worst with the people in charge reacting to the problem instead of responding to this crisis. It is still going on today under the guise of fear and misinformation. Don’t let a good crisis go to waste be it fabricated or real. This article should be a teachable moment for us all. What I witness is finger pointing and don’t blame me’s instead of requesting a full investigation of this tragety and how we can’t prevent it from ever happening again.

TARP was absolutely positively the beginning of our shiny new president’s leadership style and it goes on to day. He’s gotten away with it twice with TARP and Porkulus and it’s time that the American people stop acting like unaware victims of a well orchestrated scam. When I was diagnosed with a “learning disability” in 1974 some busy bodies from the state of ILL-annoyz strongly “suggested” to my parents- that the most merciful thing they could do for me would be to commit their then 4 year old daughter into the “loving arms” of the state institutional system.
My parents told “the state” to %^&! themselves.

At which point of leaving the barn door open long after all the TARP horses got out. No demoncrats deposed the TARP and many of the Rino’s paused at first but later acquiesced with Dem’s from the panic fueled by Paulson & his protégé Timothy Geithner . Timothy Geithner was one of the authors of TARP and it propelled into the position he holds now. It smells to high heaven to me that this was a well orchestrated scam by the power players in government.

Americannodash on July 18, 2009 at 12:30 AM
I wrestle with the urge to strangle your “busy bodies”. I know that they were merely ignorant, but those people had the potential to destroy perfectly normal lives nonetheless. “Aspergers” is just another way of saying that people are wired differently, which should be a completely obvious proposition. In my day we probably would have just called you a science student. :)
(Yeah, yeah, it’s useful to have a Dx to understand how to play to strengths etc, but it you’d think some one would catch on that a hell of a lot of people don’t fit the alleged norms and that just maybe traditional educational models have limits.)
obladioblada on July 18, 2009 at 12:37 AM
I have to agree with you, and I find it sad when people disagree, especially those who become despondent about their own lives. Everyone has something to offer.
In the suicide thread awhile back, I admitted that I just don’t understand what someone must go through when they contemplate suicide; however, I’ve always hated it that people with disabilities would feel as though they nothing to offer. Life, every life, is still worth something.
Dude. That’s very gay. :)
I’ve only had a few, but then those were generally because I was such a lightweight; still am to an extent, but now I know what it takes. Makes a big difference.
Keep the cheer, blatant. It’ll be helpful.

Since it’s late, I’ll just throw up an old post of mine about the TARP and what people were saying, at the time – that these morons dems are now pretending never happened:
There were articles written about all this, House Republicans screaming about it, but the Dems in Congress couldn’t give Paulson money quickly enough. They did such a sh!tty job of authorizing the money that we got Geithner claiming that Treasury now had a neat little slush fund to play around with and invest in anything Treasury wants, keeping the money returned and using it again. This is all so un-Constitutional that it blows my mind … but it’s what they demanded, and now those pricks are going to try to run away from their culpability in this mess? I don’t think so.
Just a little nostalgia for a slow thread …
progressoverpeace on July 18, 2009 at 12:43 AM
Damn! This friggin site ate my last post. I hate that.
Here’s a little blast from the past, to remind people of what was being said, at the time that these moron Dems in Congress were rushing to push Paulson’s idiotic TARP idea through:
Many of us were saying this, but the dems (the same ones complaining now, were dying to shove Paulson’s idiotic legislation through. Now they are trying to dance away from their culpability and pin it on Paulson? Fat chance, azzwipes! Everyone knows what they did (I certainly hope so). This Congress specializing in attacking everyone. They are really just out of their minds and as dangerous as all get-out. I don’t think people realize how truly dangerous these morons are.

I was at work one day and this lady brought in her 3 year old daughter who had downs syndrome. And honest to God…that was the most beautiful kid I had ever seen in my LIFE. That little girl was utterly beautiful. :) And she had such a sweet innocence about her; as if she was completely unaware that something was “wrong” with her.
And it kind of just drove home the point that those who aren’t “normal” (hate to use the word) are often times more beautiful (inside and out) then those who are.

OK, QUESTION: (and yes, it’s off topic-but I don’t think anyone’s keeping it ‘on topic’ in this thread)
So, I’m watching Caso Cerrado today and they had an interesting case. Tell me how ya’ll would decide it.
-This guy and this girl go on a date and everything’s fine and dandy-and then they go up to his place for some drinks. He gets drunk and rapes her.
-He goes to her house the next days and BEGS her forgiveness, tells her he’s sorry, etc, etc, etc.
-She presses charges anyways. He gets convicted of rape and gets sent to jail for 10 years.
-In the meantime, the woman gets pregnant (from the rape) and has a girl.
-He gets out of jail 10 years later and his life is basically screwed. He can’t get a job, can’t get a house/apartment…can’t basically do anything because he’s a convicted rapist.
-Her 10 year old daughter needs a kidney transplant and no one is compatible, except for maybe the guy.
-She takes him to court to see if he is compatible (he doesn’t know that she had a kid from that night. Basically, he doesn’t know that he’s a father). So, he’s like, “SAY WHAT?!?! I’m not helping you at all! You screwed over my life!! And when I begged for your help-you didn’t “help me” (by not sending him to jail) so, why the bleep do I have to help you now??
What do you guys think about that situation?

msmveritas on July 18, 2009 at 1:33 AM
Assuming the guy in this situation is telling the truth…
It’s still his kid. Any decent man would do what he could to save her life or care for her.
As to the rest, yeah, it’s a bit f-ed, though I’d feel less sorry for him if the rape were physically violent, in which case, drunk or not, he still needs to pay for what he did.
Even if it wasn’t violent, doing something while drunk doesn’t excuse it. Just tell that to anyone convicted of a DWI or DUI, especially a case where someone died.
Is she had wanted to forgive him, that’d be one thing, but I don’t see that she has any obligation to do so just because he cannot control himself when inebriated.
Esthier on July 18, 2009 at 1:37 AM
He’s blaming the victim of the rape. Classic. Another vote for Obama (felons can vote for Dems ya know).
He should still man up and give his kid the kidney. Maybe he can reclaim some sort of relationship with his own child down the line.
Mojave Mark on July 18, 2009 at 1:45 AM
Exactly. Even if he were completely innocent, that’s no reason to harm his daughter.

Sapwolf on July 18, 2009 at 2:14 AM
Bullshit!
You have no right to steal another human beings kidney.
That’s just your inner Obama speaking.
If the mother would simply ask nicely, chances are he would voluntarily give up his kidney.
You try to steal it, he may snap, kill her, the child and himself.
Start thinking this through.

I once ended a friendship back in college because after going to Mass, my former friend who I thought was Catholic, told me he’d abort a child if a test came back positive for something like down syndrome. That was it. He was a utilitarian, not a Catholic.

Ok, WHOA!!! Sorry. Yeah, I was updating the “ABOUT ME” part of my blog and completely forgot about this situation over here. :o
Anyways, I should have mentioned that he said “SCREW YOU!” BEFORE she admitted that the kid was his. He didn’t know the kid was his (hell, no one did. The woman didn’t admit it in the beginning. She presented the case as if she simply ‘thought’ (for no reason at all) that HE could be a donor).
Anyways, after he found out the Kid was his…he willingly offered up “the goods”.
Ok, NEXT QUESTION: He willingly offered up the goods to save their daughter. The only thing he asked for in return was to be able to see her and be a part of her life. She said, HELL NO!!!!! (Which pissed ME off, but then again-she’s still traumatized and bitter about the rape). Ok, now what do you guys say about that?
LiquidH2O on July 18, 2009 at 2:31 AM
Say what? “Opportunistic”? As if parents of DS kids are a such a major voting demographic they could swing the election!
Tell me, who would be a more appropriate “friend and advocate” for “special needs” families than a mother who has had the experience of birthing and raising such a child?
You two jokers seem to forget that in that very same speech Sarah Palin mentioned all of her children including her other son! Was she just being “opportunistic” when she said:
“I’m just one of many moms who will say an extra prayer each night for our sons and daughters going into harm’s way. Our son Track is 19, and one week from tomorrow, September 11th, he’ll deploy to Iraq with the Army infantry in the service of his country.”
Was she also being “opportunistic” for mentioning her soldier son, and others servce to country? HELL NO! What she was doing in her nomination acceptance speech, was intimately introducing herself and her family to the nation:
“So Track is the eldest of our five children. In our family, it’s two boys and three girls in between, my strong and kind- hearted daughters, Bristol and Willow and Piper.
And we were so blessed in April; Todd and I welcomed our littlest one into the world, a perfectly beautiful baby boy named Trig.
You know, from the inside, no family ever seems typical, and that’s how it is with us. Our family has the same ups and downs as any other, the same challenges and the same joys, sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge. And children with special needs inspire a very, very special love. To the families of special needs — to the families of special needs children all across this country, I have a message for you. For years, you’ve sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters.
And I pledge to you that if >we’re< elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the WhiteHouse.”
Well I suppose since your “feelings” are involved, I’ll have to take a page out of the liberals touchy-feely handbook to evaluate you two skylarking goofballs:
To Wit:–”your feelings aren’t right or wrong they just are”–
Yeah maybe so, your “FEELINGS” that a mother of a “special needs” kid was just a shabby “opportunist” for offering “friendship and advocacy” to those families! Sheesh! The more I get to hear you self-described “libertarians” squawk, the more you sound like old hens!

LiquidH2O on July 18, 2009 at 2:37 AM
He can ask, but she can say no due to her probably having full legal and physical custody.
However, if he hires a lawyer, and the law on the books is favorable, he might have a case.
However, I’d probably drop it.
Sapwolf on July 18, 2009 at 2:40 AM
Nope.
Sapwolf on July 18, 2009 at 2:42 AM
I was mentioning to the people around me that she probably didn’t want to admit he was the father because she didn’t want him to take her away from her (or even ATTEMPT it).
I can understand that, but man! The guy willingly offered up his kidneys to save the kid’s life. Without him, she’d die. Can’t there be a LITTLE bit of ‘grace’? I mean, he served his 10 years already. He ‘paid’ for his crime. Is there no hope for redemption…ever?
And then I think…man, but he RAPED her. She doesn’t want the man who ruined her life near her OR her kid.
Bah! I don’t know. It was a compelling story.

DDT on July 18, 2009 at 3:28 AM
Uhhhhh.
I don’t think that was the issue with Palin at all. Way off target there. It’s not the disability that got some folks, it was the fact that abortion was an option not taken. That scalds liberals, they love dead fetuses. more the better. Liberals wish it would rain dead fetuses, they’d dance in it like psychotics in a horror movie.
Well, ok.
But still, that wasn’t Palin’s problem, or at least that wasn’t the problem I had with her. The problems I did have with her were minor, and they did add up, but I was still supportive….till she quit. That’s where she lost me, but that was her decision obviously and she thought whatever negative that might come of that decision was worth whatever reason she did it for, so more power to her.
She just wouldn’t get a primary vote out of me now, no biggie.

Anyone political should have a thick enough skin to take some verbal abuse. She took the most direct abuse I’ve ever seen. That’s not it. How as a parent, do you continue to persue YOUR ambitions, when the scum of the earth is attacking your children with stories so foul they didn’t come from humans, they came from demons. How do you continue when your 14 year old daughter is attacked with rape jokes, and the world sits back and lets it happen. How do you continue on your course of ambition when demons joke about your Downs Syndrome son? I know there are other reasons like the DEMS going after her with false ethics attacks, but the abuse her kids receive alone should be a good enough reason for her actions. The media attacked Palins family, and we sat back and let it happen. It’s OUR fault!

Given the fact that Autism is reaching epidemic levels Americans have to STOP and realize we are responsible for the care of all children. Sarah Palins choice to have her son Trig is something that I admire and it is obvious he is loved and makes a difference in the lives of his parents and siblings.
Those who attack her child should remember that life unpredictable and we never know what challenges will face us or our loved ones in the future.

As a country built upon a Judeo-Christian ethic, we once believed that each individual, having been created in the Image of God, (however marred by sin) has value, even sacred value.
Now, however, we give people a utilitarian value. If you are handicapped or old and not productive, you have no value to society.
We saw this shift in thinking when “Personnel” departments became “Human Resource.” We are not more important than the raw materials that go into the products we make.
That is the major prolbem with Atheism. As moral and upright as many if not most Western Atheists are, Atheism has no Absolute standard against which actions are measured.
How can Atheism argue the worth of an individual?
The same can be said of Islam. And we see how they treat women. Ditto Hunduism and their caste system.
Yes, Christians have done atrocious things in the Name Of Christ. But it no way negates the central tenet of Christianity: Love, as defined by Paul:
No. Not one of us can consistently live up to that Standard. Praise God for His Perfect Gift of Righteousness through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Until Americans figure out that the products of Ivy League schools do not represent what is best for them and the nation as a whole I am am afraid that we are doomed to the great scrap heap of history.

Like creating the Special Olympics?
No country in the world does more to care for the mentally disabled than the United States. Every public school teaches its students to treat the mentally disabled with respect and dignity; if you’ve gone to a public school, you know this is true. Mistreating a mentally disabled person invites nearly universal scorn in our culture. Unfortunately, it’s only nearly universal because there are always a few ****heads who ruin it for everybody else. It’s one of the problems of living in a country of 300 million people. But to suggest that America is divided over disability… I have to wonder if the authors of this article have ever actually met an American.

Controversial because she understood that her unborn baby, though flawed in the eyes of many, was still a gift from God and worthy of life.
What theb HELL is controversial about that?!

Let’s point out that had Gov. Palin not had Trig front and center during the campaign she would have labeled ashamed of his disability or oblivious of his need to be with her. She was going to be criticized regardless so she took the course that her natural instinct, to have her children around her, love them and be proud of them. So you can see by the Dems think she’s such a witch. Because they have no soul.

“course that was her natural instinct.”
I will never be hired as a proof reader.

The only thing controversial about Palin is that she strikes a chord with average Americans. She’s a good representative of me because her and her family walk in shoes similiar to mine. This is what grates elitists.

Exactly, the Palins don’t come from the Ivy League or the SF liberal elite set, they’re outsiders, just a normal family.

Here is a good read.

I know you didn’t mean it that way-I don’t see my “autism ” as “epidemic”. It’s hereditary-my father was probably Aspie, my son is an Aspie, and my husband-(his step-dad)-is also likely on the spectrum. Yes-I know that Asperger’s is a different animal than what we normally call “autism”-still…
As I tell my friends-I’m normal-it’s everyone else that’s strange.
