President boldly vows: My economy-wrecking health care bill will pass this year

posted at 5:04 pm on July 17, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via Greg Hengler. For my money, this is a moment of almost unparalleled Obama jackassery: As noted last night, the substance of the bill seems secondary to him to the pure political challenge of cramming this turd down America’s cakehole, no matter how many people are gagging on it. Never mind that no less a Democrat than Steny Hoyer says it’s time to “go back to the drawing board.” Never mind that more than 50 liberals in the House are allegedly ready to walk because the bill’s not socialist enough, even as the Blue Dogs are ready to walk because it’s too socialistic. Never mind anything. Not only does health-care reform have to pass, it has to pass this year. The legacy of Hopenchange demands nothing less.

Breaking news as I write this: POTUS and TOTUS will be holding court at 9 p.m. on Wednesday to push ObamaCare. You know he’s worried if he thinks a primetime presser is necessary. Exit question: Will Wednesday night be the debut of his inevitable “I never said health-care reform would cut costs” lie?

This is soo SWEET…

The last 2 times the big man has put his mug on TV over American Idol or Survivor or something, his ratings are in the toilet. I think C-Span had better ratings of a paint drying contest replay.

Keep talking Mr. President–it’s obviously doing you good.

yep, keep talking…

White House wants more power to set Medicare rates

Jul 17 03:43 PM US/Eastern

I’m sure those “rates” are the drip rates in the IVs as well as the costs. Let’s take a wild guess, the White House wants to turn both those “rates”…..down…?

Apocalypse As you know, we avoided the other cataclysmic
event when Obama bravely signed the stimulus bill.

betsyz on July 17, 2009 at 9:27 PM

Has anyone else observed that Friday afternoon news is an increasingly interesting phenomenon?

First, any bad news–stuff the White House doesn’t want a lot of exposure on–gets trotted out on Friday afternoon, like after Rush’s show goes off the air.

Second, any really bad news–like health care bills that need to get any momentum going into tomorrows radio address and the Sunday am talk shows–gets put out on Friday. Obama’s little presser today was the political equivalent of CPR and defibrillation on his Obamacare bill that is obviously losing its pulse. He’s simply trying to keep this bugger alive–in order to get the rest of us dead.

yep, Friday afternoon news is always going to be worth keeping an eye on.

Maybe Presidente Pinnochio is getting nervous because someone is getting close to exposing the fact that he has no American born birth certificate and needs to get this socialization done before he is booted out of office.

After all would you trust OBiden to do anything for you in your absence?

Hey there’s a job for Whorealdo. Get him on the trail of his Messiahs nonexistant birth certificate. I saw the stooge on Fox today kissin Obamas ass and suggesting the Jews and Palestinians must come together.
Hows’ come the Jews are so suicidal?
Hows’ come FOX has Whorealdo?
How’s come they don’t assign him to finding his heros birth certificate.
Pinnochio has to get healthcare done so he can further his Jihadi pledge of taking America to her knees. I just hope people remember who destroyed the wealth, health, savings and morale of this formerly great country and then rise up and throw the bums out. Show us the way Sarah!

TN Mom on July 17, 2009 at 11:43 PM

True Health care reform needs to be done. Not socializing and destroying it. No single payer ever!
Good health care reform should include-
Choice- We should have freedom to choose among many insurance plans, not just what we are offered by our employer. This way we could choose options and pay different amounts depending on our needs. This would cause competition among insurance companies and lower costs.
Portability- When we move between jobs we should be able to take our insurance with us.
Unemployment protection- part of the insurance should have provision to keep our insurance between jobs and not be so expensive we have to drop it or eat. If we are unemployed so long that it stops then we should be able to start it up again with out waiting period when we find a new job or other income to pay for it.
Retirement provision- take it to our later years when we retire and eliminate Medicare.

Nancy Pelosi obviously felt she just couldn’t end her week without making yet another in her continuing series of royal jackass statements, in this case, that this healthcare plan nightmare waiting to be unleashed has “the support of the American people”.

pilamaye on July 18, 2009 at 12:21 AM

As to who “the American people” Pelosi is refering to her can safely be assumed as being up for debate.

pilamaye on July 18, 2009 at 12:25 AM

Laura Ingraham filling in for O’Reilly tonight mentioned a section of House HC legislation that mandates educational counseling for seniors basically to prevent them from being a drag on resources. I almost couldn’t believe they would mandate counseling when you know counseling in abortion is a denial of a woman’s right to choose and all. But sure enough it is there:

SEC. 1236. DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM ON USE OF PATIENT DECISIONS AIDS.
(a) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary of Health and
Human Services shall establish a shared decision making
demonstration program (in this subsection referred to as
the ‘‘program’’) under the Medicare program using pa
tient decision aids to meet the objective of improving the
understanding by Medicare beneficiaries of their medical
treatment options, as compared to comparable Medicare
beneficiaries who do not participate in a shared decision
making process using patient decision aids.

Unreal they will develop aids (power point, brochures etc) and have mandatory counseling with people on Medicare basically to encourage patients to decide to take whatever is the cheapest way out for the state.

Wouldn’t we all love to know what this guy had done to his grandma as she lay dying in Hawaii on the eve of the election. The one woman who could shed light on his youth and place of birth. That one “typical white person” who, in his life that had the whole story. What options did he give her? Have we heard any details about her death?? Her stage of cancer? What kind of ObamaCare was she forced to endure?
Well,, we can only assume grandma got the pain pill and was denied any life saving treatments. Grandma, I suspect, was the first true casualty of ObamaCare. The first true casualty of the Obama Presidency. The last little string to cut.

——————————————————————————–

I am a physician in the United States and I practice surgery. What the liberals and President of this country are trying to do will not only destroy the practice of medicine in this country, but also your ability to have access to the best care system in the world. The POTUS argues that the spiraling costs of medicine are because doctors order too many tests and studies. Do you ever wonder why? It is because we have a legal system that preys on medical malpractice. Lawyers are making millions of dollars on frivolous lawsuits. In order to constantly protect themselves, physicians go to every length to insure nothing is missed. If you want to control costs, start with tort reform and set limits to this lawsuit insanity. In addition, government control of health care isn’t going to curb costs, not to mention quality of care. Historically, how well has the government done with Medicare and Medicaid? Social Security? Welfare? Without financial incentive, what will attract the brightest and best to medicine? If this passes, I am out of medicine. I’m not working for Obama. Beyond medicine, wake up and look around you. You have let a silver tongued politician and his band of thieves rob you of your freedoms. Government control of banks, auto industry, insurance, and now medicine. Hugo Chavez must be grinning ear to ear to see the birth of yet another socialist state in western hemisphere. The next assault will be on the second ammendment and then I ask where will we be? We, as a nation, must stop this coup of our freedom and liberty. WE MUST DO IT NOW.

ted c on July 18, 2009 at 11:49 AM

If this does pass, I think the President’s owb health may be the one most at risk.

Imagine possibly millions of people with significant health issues that have suddenly gone from being treated to now being put into a system where they are getting nothing but frustration, i.e. major delays, etc. in getting their treatments. Those that reach a point of complete despair could easily lash out at the one they feel is responsible for their situation. These people can be the most dangerous since they have nothing to lose.

Given the large number of affected people and the fact that it only takes one to get close access to theOne and you’ve got a serious security problem. If it was me, I’d think about this a bit before moving forward with shoving this down the throats of the people, unless I was looking to be a martyr.

Obama losing some support among nervous Dems
By BETH FOUHY (AP) – 10 hours ago

NEW YORK — Could it be that President Barack Obama’s Midas touch is starting to dull a bit, even among members of his own party?

Conservative House Democrats are balking at the cost and direction of Obama’s top priority, an overhaul of the nation’s health care system. A key Senate Democrat, Max Baucus of Montana, complains that Obama’s opposition to paying for it with a tax on health benefits “is not helping us.”

Another Democrat, Rep. Dan Boren of Oklahoma, tells his local newspaper that Obama is too liberal and is “very unpopular” in his district.

From his first days in office, Obama’s popularity helped him pass the landmark $787 billion stimulus package and fueled his ambitious plans to overhaul the nation’s health care system and tackle global warming.

Obama continues to be comparatively popular. But now recent national surveys have shown a measurable drop in his job approval rating, even among Democrats. A CBS news survey out this week had his national approval rating at 57 percent, and his standing among Democrats down 10 percentage points since last month, from 92 percent to 82 percent.

I want one question to be answered clearly. Is Obama’s vision of national healthcare, which will be forced upon me as a citizen, be the sole health care available to the president and congress?

Historically Congress has had a penchant for separating what’s good for the “People” from what’s good for themselves.

If they are exempting themselves, I say that we throw the whole thing back in their faces.
