Audio: Harry Alford calls Barbara Boxer a racist

posted at 6:45 pm on July 17, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

If you thought Harry Alford had decided to forgive and forget the treatment he received from Barbara Boxer, think again.  The chairman of the National Black Chamber of Commerce told John Ziegler on his KGIL radio show that the Senator treated him like “some ignorant jigaboo up there,” and flat-out called her a racist. In fact, Alford said that she’s worse than the explicit racists with whom he’d dealt over the years:

That’ll leave a mark!

There was a point, when Boxer was telling Alford how proud some other black dude would be that Alford was invited to a Congressional hearing, that I thought she might get up and go pat him on the head.

She was so terribly condescending.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” – CS Lewis.

She certainly did. She sounded like she was speaking to a young child, or a really old person. It was a TOTAL Fail moment for her. She should have backed out but she kept doubling down on dumb.

Alford was a racist for declaring Boxer a racist and that means all white conservatives are racist too. Don’t ask me how, just go with it.

Sad part is that the kossacks and others will probably rally to Boxer and start a smear campaign against Mr. Alford, without any downside to them.

Anyone who believes that any ethnicity cannot achieve prosperity without direct assistance from the state is inherently racist.

Alford skewered her again!

She’s such an idiot.

ladyingray on July 17, 2009 at 6:53 PM

Alford said that she’s worse than the explicit racists with whom he’d dealt over the years:

He’s echoing Justice Thomas, who relates in his biography an analogy from his grandfather about affirmative action:

The contrast reminded me of Daddy’s explanation of the difference between rattlesnakes and water moccasins. Both, he said, were deadly, but the rattlesnake was easier to spot. It rattled before it struck, while the water moccasin would strike silently without warning, making it more dangerous.

LastRick on July 17, 2009 at 6:55 PM

Boxer is such an arrogant, pompous fool. I just don’t understand why she feels the need to show her a$$ every time there’s a camera on her.

I relished every moment of this ‘in your face’ rejection of racial politics by Harry Alford. And Barbara ‘don’t call me ma’am’ Boxer had to eat his justified response.

I know someone who interned for her DC office..he was a true believer idealist when he went in….and absolutely disgusted with her by the time he came out. She is an arrogant elitest scumbag of a woman.

elduende on July 17, 2009 at 7:03 PM

Boxer is a willful bigot. As the gentleman said, one can deal with those who were brought up with racism, who simply begin there, and indeed mutual respect may be established with such a person. But a person who has actually chosen racism, and willingly is a bigot, cannot be other than utterly rejected as being fundamentally an unsuitable human being.

Mr. Alford is owed an apology for having been met with such rancid racial condescension. Mrs. Boxer is owed a van down by the river where she might contemplate her autumn years.

Most excellent.

Kini on July 17, 2009 at 7:11 PM

From the clip I saw, Babs was her normal condescending self. She of the ‘governing elite’ did not have to put up with Alford. She tells the public want to do. The only input allowed is to worship her and kiss her ass. How dare someone have a differing opinion. After all, she’s SENATOR Boxer.

Nancy Pelosi is the same way.

Awesomely awesome.

I loved in the original clip how she was trying to trump him with some half-ass letter from an NAACP official. I liked his line: “Why didn’t he come and testify?”

Boxer had no response. Even better was watching her squirm as you could see the wheels turning in her head trying to assess how this was going to play on the nightly news. Hello, YouTube, Senator.

I bet she’ll be doing the black rubber-chicken-speaking circuit for weeks during her summer recess. We’ll call it “What I Did on My Summer Recess” by Barbara “You Can Call Me Senator Because I Know I’ve Earned” Boxer.

Ouch, that’s going to leave a mark :-)

Actually, I think many Democrat Princes and Princesses treat minorities as some sort of “field hands” not deserving of treatment as intelligent adults. They view minorities as a captive audience and treat them with the bigotry of low expectations.

PackerBronco on July 17, 2009 at 7:25 PM

When are minorities going to wake up and understand the sinister nature of leftists? They have been exploited and subjugated by the left. Leftist say “think this way” and if they have the nerve to question the group-think, they are branded with the same epithets that they were before the civil right movement… “Uncle Tom”, “ignorant”, “house slave” etc. It drives me crazy! Most of the Hispanics and Blacks I know, when queried about social issues, are conservative but vote Democrat because they think they have to. Its sick.

Fuzzlenutter on July 17, 2009 at 7:33 PM

Will this lead to a greater awakening amongst other AA Dems to the subtle, but well meaning, racism that has kept them subjugated in many ways? Ms., er SENATOR, Boxer has helped illuminate that via her issue with Mr. Alford yesterday.

ted c on July 17, 2009 at 7:34 PM

I wasn’t going to click on that interview until I realized it was more from yesterday. I am glad I did.
It seems that the Senate and House have members that are just so full of themselves that they are just begging for a smack down. They have been behaving this way for way too many years. It’s about time someone called them on it and Mr. Alford just did. He had the moral authority on this one and he used it.

sammypants on July 17,

That comic strip needs one correction

Boxer “We are all soooo proud of you!”

Harry Alford “Why?”

Boxer “Your the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean”.

DSchoen on July 18, 2009 at 5:18 AM

It time as conservatives we focus on how we get to a colorblind society. The Republican party started out as the party of Blacks. Counter to democratic claims, that black was even distributed between Dems and Reps, vast majority of blacks were Republican. RINO’s pandering to southern white democrats threw blacks over board. Nixon did more harm to Republican party, than any other Republican President.
The Democrats have put the blacks on the socialism reservation. Civil Rights was a Republican initiative, Democrats originally voted against it. States rights, a conservative issue, was hijacked for evil purpose by Wallace. He also after loosing his first attempt for Governor pandered to KKK, which he originally rejected. He became a Democrat and won. Conservatives need to now focus on the difficult task of how do we get to colorblind society, one that doesn’t discriminate against anyone regardless of race or color. Many light colored Blacks discriminate against darker colored Blacks, and same with Asians. It is very sad. The reason that Black children do worse on tests is that they are buying in on the stereotype society has, this has been shown time and time again in studies. Most recently Black children who thought about Obama before the test did better. Black children raised by white parents do better in school. Democrats, with their focus on Affirmative action and other programs are sending the message that, Blacks are not as good as others and need special advantage to rise up. Having a Black President was the greatest moment in US History, being it was Obama made it the worst moment also. As conservative we need to figure this out and come up with ideas to break society out of it’s race stereotypes and bring about a true color blind society. We need conservative think tanks and social experiments to focus in this issue. Education on the subject is good place to start.

HoustonRight on July 17, 2009 at 7:28 PM

It’s not just blacks its in fact anyone who votes for them to begin with. Those that do vote are not engaged in the issues of the day so they step into the political world assuming that they can grasp all the concepts, place their vote because everyone else is doing it and proceed to shoot themselves in the foot.

Apparently after so many times in favor to the liberals they cannot bring themselves to the realization that their allegiance has been in error. BHO ascension is proof positive of this aforementioned phenomenon. Most American Africans voted for him because of identity politics and the white Anglos did so because of novelty. None cared to listen to what was being said just it’s delivery.

We’re in deep doo-doo now. We have to see if those that voted for them will be disgusted that the Dems just flushed their only chance at success down the crapper.
