Video: Witness rips Boxer for racial condescension

posted at 12:57 pm on July 16, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Red meat by the slab, folks! Barbara Boxer wound up getting reamed by Harry Alford, the chair of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, after attempting to challenge his testimony on energy policy. When Boxer started waving position papers from the NAACP and the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Alford called it a “condescending” attack and complained about Boxer’s focus on black people rather than science:

I just love it when white politicians set themselves up as arbiters of racial authenticity, especially when they try to scold minorities for drifting off the political reservation. It belies a “soft” bigotry, if you will, when Barbara Boxer assumes all black people think the same and hold the same opinions — or even worse, that they should.

Update: Duane “Generalissimo” Patterson says California has reclaimed the crown.

Yeah….she deserved this. Inhofe gave her a nice backhand, too, by pointing out that the NAACP report didn’t support her though it was obvious she wanted it to seem so.

Soft bigotry?

That’s hard racism.

He kept saying, “Ma’am.” Why didn’t she correct him? She worked hard for her title, doncha know.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on July 16, 2009 at 1:04 PM

Very fortunate she didn’t call him an Oreo. Apparently that’s what she was thinking. Did her refer to her as Senator instead of ma’am? That may have set her off. She worked awfully hard for that title.

Say wah??

I’d be offended too, Mr Alford.

Count to 10 on July 16, 2009 at 1:12 PM

The Dems are without any shame, whatsoever. They are just lucky that they are far too stupid to understand this and far too evil to care about it.

Boxer is a clear and present threat to the US and should be treated like any other terrorist, because that is exactly what she is. She is itching to do more damage to our country than Al Quaeda is even capable of. She belongs in Gitmo.

The threat from the Dems is clear. They will kill this nation and they will stir up as much racial animosity as they able, in the process, because they know that they can’t sell any of their suicidal ideas as they stand. The NAACP’s position on energy … this is more ridiculous than a Monty Python sketch, though it is pretty close to “Twit of the Year”, give or take one vowel.

progressoverpeace on July 16, 2009 at 1:13 PM

This woman is a tool. Who does she think she is. She sits there lecturing. The people that vote her into office are mindless.

What the heck does diversity have to do with energy policy? Don’t you want the experts to give their opinion not some Tom, Dick, or Harry who just because they are black — not because they are an energy expert — you put in the record and say its all for diversity?

Why not ask the eight-year old black kid to write a letter saying the energy bill is good? That’s diversity.

G-d do I dislike Senator Boxer so.

The left, and probably not only the left, want to gather us into herds for the sake of easier shepherding. But shepherds make the sheep first dependent and then stupid and weak, and they cull them to make them tame. They fleece them. They breed them, or not, as they please. They pet them and speak to them soothingly, then kill and eat.

Skywise on July 16, 2009 at 1:03 PM

You have to ask?

If anything America in 2009 is more racist than it was in 1959. Minority ethnic groups are split into the “pure bloods” who run in lockstep with liberalism and the culture of victimhood and the “traitors” who dare express independent opinion and not fall into the sterotypes that have been assigned.

He was on CNN this morning.

What I don’t understand is why the RNC isn’t in full war room mode out there coordinating attacks on this adminstration over every single issue. So much is wrong under this corrupt and morally adrift administration it would be very easy to get angry citizens into a fevered pitch over anything that comes out of DC. Instead, silence.

highhopes on July 16, 2009 at 1:19 PM

“As someone who is married to a veteran…” Ha! she can’t help it! Keeps up with the identity politics after he crushes her arguments!

The only way this would have been better is if he had come prepared with a statement from the National Association for the Advancement of Dwarfs/Midgets (NAADM) that refuted and condemned these energy policies.

Johnson on July 16, 2009 at 1:21 PM

What you witnessed here was a classic example of Democrats and the race-baiting game.

Whereas something as benign as an energy policy should be devoid of any racial overtones, Democrats can’t help but point out the race of the guy by touting out a similar group in support of your measure.

You see, Boxer doesn’t want other blacks to not support her measure, so she calls in the trump card – the NAACP to show just how supportive blacks are.

She didn’t see opposition. She saw ‘black’ opposition. Yay for those morally superior democrats.

Very true. The left is all about tribalism. They are going to drag this nation into the bloodiest times ever, as they destroy us more completely than any of our enemies in the arab/persian/muslim world could even wish.

The only solution to this will be to deal with the left in as ruthless a fashion as their actions demand. There is no dialogue with these suicidal savages. Anyone who thinks so, or who thinks that they can just be beaten in an election and forgotten about, doesn’t understand the threat.
