The sadly obligatory “Meghan McCain calls Joe the Plumber a dumbass” post
posted at 8:08 pm on July 16, 2009 by Allahpundit
When news is slow, as it is tonight, it’s either MeggieMac or an atheism post. Consider yourselves lucky.
Worth noting that Elisabeth Hasselbeck said virtually the same thing about JTP two months ago, although I grant you that it’s bigger news when the daughter of the guy who made Joe famous drops the bomb on him. Even so, isn’t she right? Just this one time?
Yet even as the balance begins to shift, the old guard is still yapping in the foreground. Shortly before McCain sat for this interview, Samuel Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber, gave an interview to Christianity Today in which he complained about “queers” and declared, “I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children.” Unprompted, McCain rails against the man her father’s presidential campaign touted as an American everyman and made a showpiece in the weeks before the election. “Joe the Plumber — you can quote me — is a dumbass. He should stick to plumbing.”
If you missed his full interview with Christianity Today in May, you’ll find it here. Seriously: Gay adoption is practically mainstream these days and presumably welcome by conservatives as an alternative to abortion — and yet JTP thinks gays are uniformly unfit to be around children? That’s not dumbass? Since anything MMc says is deemed RINO until proven otherwise, let’s approach the question from a different angle: Do you think Sarahcuda, goddess of True Conservatism, is closer to the McCain or Wurzelbacher position on this one? I’d guess the former. Tell me why I’m wrong.
Exit question I’m going to regret: Er, why exactly do so many of you guys seem to loathe Meggie Mac, who’s pro-life, pro-gun, Christian, and hawkish, while you tolerate an atheist who’s squishy on abortion like me? Is it because she spends most of her time bashing the GOP on gay marriage instead of rubbing The One’s face in crap? I’m puzzled.

Anyone who thinks a child does not deserve a mother and a father is a dumbass.
corona on July 16, 2009 at 9:04 PM
I agree with you with all that is in me. Children deserve a shot at a normal life. This may not be popular, but women who “don’t need a man” are on my list, too. What kind of selfish person would intentionally deprive their child of a father?
TXMomof3 on July 16, 2009 at 9:07 PM
Don’t you know WTF Joe IS????
Gay adoption is “practically mainstream”…except most people don’t agree with it…no champion of gay adoption ever won a national election…most people are neither gay, nor adopted, nor adopted by gays…oh! The McCainaics issued a fiat!
or is it a “bull”?
Chris_Balsz on July 16, 2009 at 9:07 PM
What a load of bull!
MM is only reminding us all of why her daddy lost the election: Joe the Plumber was right (dumbass plumber that he is) and managed to rip the mask off of MaObama for all to see before he won the election.
If only John McCain had made more of NObama’s answer to Joe & why it meant that McCain should win and that Ogabe should lose, but nooooo.
We didn’t lose the elections on any level because the GOP take the wrong (but the right) side of the culture war but because McCain let Obama & the MSM control the campaign to bring it in for the “first black president.”
Joe the Plumber had his life destroyed by NObama’s attack machine digging into and making public his private, personal records and McCain said…nothing.
Nor does little Meggie bemoan that here, either.
What would she say if they did the same to her personal records? (Not that she doesn’t blab about every single little thing on Twitter!)

It’s because she attacks people who are pro-life, pro-gun, Christian and hawkish, and actively campaigns for people who are pro-abortion, anti-gun, anti-Christian, and Carter-ish. Despite what she claims her positions are, AP is far more tolerant of conservatives.

That’s a big part of it too. Now, Jen, I don’t want to get into a tussle widdya.
But when nearly 70% of youth and 70% of self-described moderates voted for Ogabe, it was clear that a lot of the reason for it was the cultural issues.
That may be a bitter pill to swallow, but look at the results.
We’d all like to think that, seeing what a disaster has now ensued, those folks will start voting more judciously. But I don’t think so. As long as Republicans are tarred as the “party of intolerance”, they’re gonna vote with their feelings. Because for a lot of them, tolerance is the only value they hold.

MMc is a never was who is the daughter of a once was. She is a lefty who says she is a conservative. The amount of attention that recieves from the left is due to the amount of anger she raises in the right. I think she should be ignored and she will go the way of Cindy Sheehan and soon Levi Johnston. As soon as we stop giving her any attention she will fade away. Figuratively of course, ’cause that would be a whole lot of fading.
thomasaur on July 16, 2009 at 9:17 PM
Exit Answer: Megan McCain is a useful tool like her father, willing to not pipe up on any of her conservative beliefs in an attempt to curry favor with the media.
You don’t really want to moderate to be more loved, you have squishy views on abortion and you state them, along with your more conservative opinions, but you don’t promote your squishiness as the new and only way the GOP can win.
The McCain family just seems to pump out tools who want some media lovin’. Pretty sure if Megan McCain were to start going off about her hawkish views or her pro gun views the media’d nail her to a cross just like they did her idiot of a father.

Secondly, there weren’t any culture issues on the ballot along with NObama and when there were, as with Prop 8 in CA, Ogabe voters voted against same sex marriage.
So there goes your theory about “the youth.”
And I meet young people every day on Twitter that are culturally, as well as politically Conservative and Republican.

Second, Meghan McCain isn’t important enough for me to care about and I don’t really know why she’s posted here so much. . . that said.
She’s loathed because she claims to speak for everyone. I don’t care what anyone thinks personally, but when they start acting like they are speaking for me, I have a problem with them.
As much as I disagree with you on many things AP, you don’t claim to speak for me and try to convince me that you are more like me than me. Meghan McCain does.

Allahpundit,
Yes, I do believe there’s an audience threshold. If your question is why you haven’t crossed it, I would personally attribute it to a number of things; that 90% of your posts cover issues which are of importance to most conservatives; a perceived balance between your writing’s and Ed’s during the sporadic moments when topics involving family and religion emerge.
Sometimes, I suspect there may be an unspoken rule/agreement of courtesy operating between you and Ed that keeps the atmosphere around here from getting self-destructive; one which tempers the “what,” “how,” and “when” the way topics are broached. Whether or not that’s the case, much of that definitely accounts for the general sense of camaraderie we get here from one another.
Disagreements do emerge and surprise conservative readers which, while withering your odds of ever winning a Texas Republican primary, isn’t fatal in a venue lie this,; especially since wherever those differences do become evident, so does your candid awareness of your audience.
I, for one, don’t expect an atheist conservative blogger to hide or betray his conscience on the matter of ultimate belief; neither is it obvious to me why humble self-disclosure should be grounds to go “Perez Hilton” on you. All we ask in return is that you don’t go “Charles Johnson” on us.
Alexander on July 16, 2009 at 9:34 PM
Allah,
I can’t speak for everybody here, but I can tell you why I loathe Meghan McCain almost as much as your hopelessly puzzled/white knight routine:
She criticizes the right at every opportunity, while swallowing praise from lefties, by making points that are completely invalid. (i.e. Cheney’s criticism of Obama was “unprecedented” even though Gore did the same thing.)
She peddles lefty movements under the guise of being a “Republican” while essentially classifying those who disagree with her the same way as the left. (i.e. “no h8” picture, as if those of us who believe in a heterosexual nuclear family or voted yes on prop. 8 are haters, bigots, and homophobes.)
She joined the Republican party for “father’s day”, she is a spoiled brat, and she is in love with herself and the media at a level that rivals Obama.
She has nothing to show to back up her positions you listed other than being the daughter of a Senator and multi-millionaire and her Art History degree.
She is a coattail riding phony Republican if there ever was one. On the other hand, we appreciate you, despite a few of your flawed positions, because you at least have the history, dedication and reasoning capacity to show that you are genuine in your convictions.
wowrob on July 16, 2009 at 9:34 PM
Here’s a link: http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/national-exit-polls.html
Voters under 29 went 66% for Ogabe.
Self-identified moderates went 60% (OK, I was a bit off on that, but 60% is still huge.)
What I find particularly interesting is that up until 1984, both of those groups went Republican.
There didn’t have to be any cultural issues on the ballot: there rarely are. That’s not the point. The point is that the MSM and academia have done a great job of painting the Right and the GOP as intolerant and in the pocket of evangelical snake-handlers.
And of course you meet conservatives on Twitter. So what? The numbers are the numbers.

It’s nothing personal, I’ve just never read anything that she’s had to say that I found useful in any way, and usually quite the opposite. I categorize her with Frum and Powell: pretenders trying to move America to the left and away from our founding principles. She’s a threat.
Even though, in spite of many similarities, I have some major issues with some on the right, I’d rather have a right and a left rather than two lefts so that at least we have the option of achieving middle group through divided government. If we have two big-government leftist parties that becomes impossible.

Very few children have had a “normal” life, except if the word normal means dysfunctional. All of our lives are experiments, and it’s not really a bad thing. Even if a same sex couple is in some theoretical sense not as a good for a child, it’s still the case that other experiences of the child are going to so overwhelm whatever theoretical shortfall of same sex couples on children to make it just silly to worry about whatever that shortfall could be possibly be. Let’s try to have some perspective.

MadisonConservative on July 16, 2009 at 9:54 PM
You seem far too intelligent for that to be the case, especially when you give her tips on how she might not be loathed.
There really are so many reasons, not the least of which is that her recent switch in party affiliation feels just way to… convenient considering it was a Father’s Day present and only came after he received the nomination.
But then, it really doesn’t help that the vast majority of her articles are about how much the GOP sucks @ss, appealing only to liberals who like to pretend they’re open minded enough to read a conservative, even if it’s just one.
You’re squishy on social issues, but at least you’ve been in the trenches, actually promoting conservatives and conservative ideals. That gives you the right to say when something is wrong.
Plus, the young girl, though Columbia educated, is not half as smart as she thinks she is and seems completely oblivious to the fact that she wouldn’t even be paid attention to were it not for the fact that she’s a McCain.
While you, on the other hand, are a very talented writer who’s earned his spot through hard work.
Even acknowledging your beta male attitude, you can’t possibly not see the vast differences unless you really are that infatuated with her.
She may be right on Joe here, but she’s REALLY not one to talk. That she doesn’t see that, isn’t even her main problem.

Re: Those ‘youth’ and ‘moderate’ voters…
how many were there, by chance? You give %s, but not absolute numbers. This could be a major flaw in this logic.
So moderates went 60-40 for Obama and youth went 66-34 for Obama, percentage-wise, correct? And you are from that arguing that the moderates and youth are important voting blocs, right?
Now, can you give me an estimate as to how many conservatives didn’t vote (for either major party) because McCain was the candidate? Also, can you give an estimate as to how bad the splits would have been if a more conservative Republican candidate had been the nominee? Without that, you cannot really prove your conclusion.
If McCain lost us enough votes from the conservative base trying to woo the moderates, then a moderate Republican candidate is a net negative in terms of votes.

She has no compunction to sticking her finger into the eyes of the republican party (nut doesn’t fall far from the tree, who woulda thunk?).
Advocated about moving the “Big Tent” to the left. Which won’t work. It will leave out the right and the tent will try to take up space that’s already crowded with the Dem tent.
She mourns the loss of Arlen Specter when everyone else was (Rightly) getting ready to slam the door on his ass on the way out.

I don’t have anything against gay people, and I’ve known several, but if they want to have kids they should do it the old fashioned way.
It’s immoral to experiment with children by placing them in unnatural environments during their childhood and then waiting until they’ve grown up to tabulate whether they turned out normal or not.

That’s a confession, not an accusation. Thou dost project too much.

My “sadly obligatory” two cents:
Who cares what Meg has to say!
Gay adoption is not mainstream. Just because the liberal media repeats the lie often, doesn’t make it so. It would be even less mainstream if the truth about how the majority of homosexuals were molested themselves as children and tend to molest children when they become adults. Ever hear of NAMBLA?

Good grief, I am greatly disappointed in myself for being here listening to the banter about this nothing elf. She is NOT a conservative; she is NOT a Republican; she is not a leader; she is NOT intelligent; she is NOT attractive; she is totally opportunistic. One evening at family dinner daddy said, sure, why not, why don’t you get involved. You are beautiful, smart, conservative and we need a leader now that I have failed so go grab this bully pulpit called McCain…… SORRY, she is not capable of leading a one car funeral…. please conservative friends, release her from your thoughts. Let her go and quietly assist the least common denominator of the grand Reagan party…..

Someone, anyone, stuff a wad of gorilla glue in a twinkie and toss it onto her balcony.
When will this fat fake ignorant twit shut the f up?
Her whimp of a father lost.
Now tell this ignorant twit to go away.

By that same logic, Scientologists should not be allowed to adopt, nor any other cult members. Do we deny them? Who judges what is a true “unnatural” environment? I’m pretty sure this guy is straight.

“Normal” is a broad categorization that encompasses a diverse array of factors, but one thing that is certainly not normal—as in, it’s impossible—is for for two men or two women to have a baby together.

I’ll admit I agree with Meghan some of the times. It is the way she goes about stating her opinion that annoys me. It almost has a “better than thou” attitude to it. That is what rubs the wrong way, not necessarily what she saying.
