The sadly obligatory “Meghan McCain calls Joe the Plumber a dumbass” post

posted at 8:08 pm on July 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

When news is slow, as it is tonight, it’s either MeggieMac or an atheism post. Consider yourselves lucky.

Worth noting that Elisabeth Hasselbeck said virtually the same thing about JTP two months ago, although I grant you that it’s bigger news when the daughter of the guy who made Joe famous drops the bomb on him. Even so, isn’t she right? Just this one time?

Yet even as the balance begins to shift, the old guard is still yapping in the foreground. Shortly before McCain sat for this interview, Samuel Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber, gave an interview to Christianity Today in which he complained about “queers” and declared, “I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children.” Unprompted, McCain rails against the man her father’s presidential campaign touted as an American everyman and made a showpiece in the weeks before the election. “Joe the Plumber — you can quote me — is a dumbass. He should stick to plumbing.”

If you missed his full interview with Christianity Today in May, you’ll find it here. Seriously: Gay adoption is practically mainstream these days and presumably welcome by conservatives as an alternative to abortion — and yet JTP thinks gays are uniformly unfit to be around children? That’s not dumbass? Since anything MMc says is deemed RINO until proven otherwise, let’s approach the question from a different angle: Do you think Sarahcuda, goddess of True Conservatism, is closer to the McCain or Wurzelbacher position on this one? I’d guess the former. Tell me why I’m wrong.

Exit question I’m going to regret: Er, why exactly do so many of you guys seem to loathe Meggie Mac, who’s pro-life, pro-gun, Christian, and hawkish, while you tolerate an atheist who’s squishy on abortion like me? Is it because she spends most of her time bashing the GOP on gay marriage instead of rubbing The One’s face in crap? I’m puzzled.

There is room for disagreement with the conservative movement.

There is not room for people who spend the majority of their time going after conservatives and helping the left.

One can see the difference here between say Guilani, who mostly saves his venom for the left, and Mini McCain who mostly spends her time bashing conservatives, trashing conservatism, and arguing that we need to be more leftwing.

Easy. She exudes spoiled elitist brat. She is a Republican Paris Hilton. She gives the vibe of never having lived amongst the serfs, and she condescends to them constantly. She lacks humility.

AP – The reason we slam her is because she speaks in general PC cliches with absolutely no substance to ANYTHING that comes from her mouth. She is one of the most clueless and self-absorbed people in the news at the moment.

Ohhh, she likes Vegas and gambling and swearing a lot? WHO DOESN’T? Gimme a break….

I can’t believe The Daily Beast pays her to “write”. The stuff she churns out is no better than a high school essay. It’s embarrassing and insults the intelligence of everyone involved.

Simply saying “Hey, y’all I’m a Republican!!” does not make her a Republican, nor does it qualify her to make statements on the GOP’s behalf.

By the way, AP, you thoroughly embarrass yourself on Twitter with your pathetic tweets to her. Better question – why are you so obsessed with her?

Dang! Good enough for USA Today, but Hotair thinks it’s just too crazy. We need more threads about MegaMac and her 35 IQ calling someone a dumbass …

progressoverpeace on July 16, 2009 at 8:39 PM

Meg is the true victim of cranial vacancy, but JTP did accept the fame a bit too handily. There was no reason he needed to speak at CPAC, nor write a book. I think maybe the people who were saying he should run for public office the day after he questioned Obama in that crowd didn’t help.

Good guy, but elevated to prominence when it wasn’t really deserved.

Er, why exactly do so many of you guys seem to loathe Meggie Mac, who’s pro-life, pro-gun, Christian, and hawkish, while you tolerate an atheist who’s squishy on abortion like me?

Spot on. The apple didn’t fall far from the tree. She seems to want the other side to love her so much, she gets their attention by bashing her ‘own side’, and never says boo about the ones she supposedly disagrees with.

AP, however, as was said, works for a living, provides a product/service people like and want. Besides, in the bigger picture, regarding Islam, you get it. In the coming conflicts, I’d rather have one AP, who might be squishy on abortion, than a whole squadron of mamby-pamby half-fast, spit-you-ot-of-my-mouth lukewarm ‘Christians’ who are against abortion.

bikermailman on July 16, 2009 at 8:41 PM

The real question is, why are you posting this cr@p and have not yet seen fit to make a headline thread about the military backing down and revoking the deployment orders for Major Cook just before the court hearing?

progressoverpeace on July 16, 2009 at 8:28 PM

I’ll take a stab at it. Probably because this is birther conspiracy talk. And Hot Air doesn’t want to appear to the outside blogosphere as the kind of site that would get into this talk. That’s fine, it’s the choice of the editorial board here and they’re free to choose that route.

The problem with that, as I see it, are two-fold. The first is ironic in that AP cut his teeth, made his “name” (whoever the hell he is) with the Rathergate scandal. So essentially what was good for him, to put him on the map, you ain’t getting the same chance here. Fine, that’s probably Malkin’s call anyway so I’ll let him off the hook. The second is it once again leaves Hot Air stuck in the middle — not far enough right (or serious enough) to gather the credentials and political connections of Red State but not willing to move diagonally enough to inspect every facet of conservativism (one of those being, opposition research on the Democrats.)

Because she wrote an article calling the woman who won the Young Republicans race a racist, even though the woman slammed back at the accusation that Facebook made it look like she was laughing at the “coon” joke.

Meggy takes any chance she can to go after republicans but has never gone after one Democrat, then goes on HBO and gets taken behind the woodshed by Begala. Even the lefties think shes a joke. Go on Huffpo and she has the article where she says she loves gay guys, the comments are all in unison that she is a fraud.

Where do I stop? She jetsets on a trustfund to Vegas and Hollywood staying in swanky hotels never holding a real job. And today she says “shes so tired, so much work to do”, really? To go online and schedule your next trip to Paris? Whats with the NOH8 campaign on her website? How about a pro conservative cause? Oh thats right, no invites for mag covers or to write opeds if you attend a tea party, or an NRA meeting.

Make no mistake about it Allah, even though your beta male really shines through on Twitter when talking to her like the D&D kid trying to hit on the prom the queen, she would say the EXACT same thing if JTP would have just said “Im against gay marriage”. Don’t forget, she considers that stance H8.

I haven’t read through everything so forgive me, but

Why are some on this site castigating a man for saying what he thinks? He has the right to say what he wants to say, and he has the integrity to say what he thinks. Why is that so offensive? Do I agree with him? ABSOLUTELY not. I have gay friends that I would trust my child with and have no qualms with it. In the case of JTP- I don’t agree with him but I admire him for saying what he thinks.

As for you AP- the jury is still out…………..

That’s not surprising. The one thing atheists are known for is genocide and communism.

The fact is; to every culture on earth, atheism = hardcore leftist.

you may not realize it but that is where you are heading.

It’s simple…take atheism to it’s logical conclusion and you get communism and suicidal and genocidal nihilism.

In the short roughly 100 year history of atheism they have produced the worst genocides seen in human history.

Thankfully atheism is a failed leftist philosophy that died out 20 years ago.

Aren’t we supposed to call them “queers” anymore? I thought the memo said it was the preferred nomenclature now.

And what is McCain’s problem with plumbers? Has she ever had a real job?

Buddahpundit on July 16, 2009 at 8:48 PM

An important rule in politics: Don’t attack your allies.

Joe the Plumber’s comment on gays was not the most intelligent. Does that suddenly mean we should dismiss everything else he said as being the comment of a “dumbass”?

Why make it personal?

Just say “I don’t agree with Joe the Plumber on this issue” that’s all you have to say. But no, it’s name calling- and to millions of Americans, that translates as: “Drop Dead you white trash. Just shut up and vote for me and others who are your intellectual betters”.

What we are seeing is the unwinding of the effects of WWII.

WWII created a common bond between elites and ordinary folk. So people were happy to vote for the elites, because we knew they understood and respected us ordinary folk.

The most of the baby boomer generation does not have the same connection between the elite and the rest. The exceptions tend to be very popular politicians. Look at Bill Clinton, he may have been a cheat, and a liar, and a scoundrel- but he was no elitist. He was as comfortable with the poor and the salt of the earth as he was with the intellectual elite. Why do think he was so successful as a politician? Why do you think people like Sarah Palin so much?

Today us ordinary folk are convinced that behind closed doors the elites are all mocking us, they think we are easily manipulated dopes, and that you elites have a divine right to rule over us. We sense the contempt. You think you’re better than us.

Conservatives are only slightly better than liberals on this issue.

It’s why there is resistance to Mitt Romney. He’s an elite, and some of his behavior is typical of those that think they are better than others. I am not put off by this because he’s Mormon, and I know what that means. Mormons have a community that doesn’t have the same division between elite and non-elite. Mitt Romney has certainly had to work side by side with many non-elite people, and so he does understand and respect us.

The reason he acts the way he does- his “perfect” image, the reason he doesn’t let his hair down, is because in Mormon tradition it’s his duty to behave as an “exemplar” least someone catch him in an imperfection and use that imperfection to justify their own sins.

Mormons as a group are quite obsessed with the commandment to “not be a stumbling block for the unbeliever”. Thus Romney’s carefully crafted “perfect” image is not the sign of an ego manic who thinks he’s better than everyone else, but the burden of an imperfect man who feels a duty to not reflect badly on his God and his religion.

Another thing in your favor, AP, your opinions stand alone with some thought to back them up. Meggie Mac has only her father’s work and reputation and her mother’s money to back her up.

drewmesq on July 16, 2009 at 8:57 PM

I think AP needs to break out the humpbot once in a while…that always makes my day.

Come to think about it, maybe he needs to get a humpbot, just might make his day!

It’s simply proof that conservatism really is a big tent. You have you’re own beliefs, but you don’t try to make us conform to your belief system. You feel that conservatism agrees with you in enough areas to be on our team, and since you are on our team you don’t constantly tell us we suck.

TXMomof3 on July 16, 2009 at 8:59 PM

Is gay adoption really that mainstream? There are a great many of us conservatives who (shocking!) still believe that homosexuality is immoral. All too often “tolerance” preached by the left and so called moderates means that we are supposed to accept the behavior as normal or “mainstream.” Sorry, no can do. Allahpundit’s thoughtless comments are typical of elements in the GOP that are driving us away. And you need us to win elections, like it or not.

I’m abivalent. I happen to agree with a lot of her message; which is that the Right lost the culture war and to the extent that we fail to realize that, we will continue to alienate independents, moderates and youth – which means continue to lose elections.

On the other hand, she is sort of the wrong messenger: a smarmy, not-too-bright, privileged child of an elite RINO.

I think a lot of people are confusing the messenger with the message. And a lot of people on the right just don’t like the message

Collie, why don’t you explain it to our host?

My collie says:

MMc is a child of privilege. The MSM SWOONS over her and LOVES to put her in front of the camera where she can attempt to discredit and destroy (so they think) the conservative agenda. They USE her like a whore — and because she is Johnny’s daughter, they think that people will listen to her and give her opinions weight.

YOU, on the other hand, are an anonymous beta-male “nobody” that is routinely laughed at and dismissed by your very own little cult following here at HotAir. In the eyes of the MSM, you are more pathetic and contemptible than JTP. In their eyes, Borat has more credibility than you do.

In summary, she is perceived as a real threat (at least by some), while you are merely a clown.

Collie, sometimes you are SUCH a BRUTE. Why are you so mean to AllahPundit?

My collie says:

I’m still mad at him about his tiered comments proposal.

In actual news….

The Iowa Republican party confirms to Fox news that it has invited Sarah Palin to headline their annual Reagan Dinner, set for an as yet to be determined date this fall. They have heard not heard back from the former governor but are hopeful, “Sarah Palin is popular with many Iowans,” Said Iowa GOP Communications Director Danielle Plogmann, ” We’d be interested to hear her thoughts on the republican party and we’d be happy to host her at the Reagan Dinner or any statewide GOP event.”

Many men claim to love their women while they beat them. Conservative women, hopefully, aren’t stupid enough to stand by them.

The same principle applies here.

Meghan (with an adorable little superfluous “h”) is trying to puff herself up by constantly abusing those she claims to love, which is good for neither conservatives or conservatism.

Moreover, she is not pro-life, pro-gun, or pro-Christian. She is concerned with being popular. I have zero doubt she would toss all the above under the bus if the “cool kids” told her to. She is not an informed woman of principle, she is a bubblegum-snapping bimbette on par with Paris Hilton.

American Elephant on July 16, 2009 at 9:05 PM

Is gay adoption really that mainstream?

Totally. As mainstream as corndogs and county fairs. We’re all pro-gay-adoption now. And we just feel so darn good about it. You betcha!!

guntotinglibertarian on July 16, 2009 at 9:05 PM

You know who AP should talk about more if he cares about young, intelligent conservative women? Mary Katharine Ham. I know they are friends, but he also claims to be friends with Meghan now. MK is only a few years older than MegMac, and about a kajillion years smarter. Oh, I get it, that makes her, like, intimidating and stuff. So I guess it is no surprise why he likes Miss McCain so very much—any beta would—she’s no threat!

I_C on July 16, 2009 at 9:06 PM

There’s nothing “birther” about the idea that natural-born doesn’t include dual-citizens. This isn’t rocket science and is all very obvious. And military orders suddenly revoked in the face of a pending court hearing is as real as it gets.

progressoverpeace on July 16, 2009 at 8:46 PM

I’m not taking a side; I’m just saying that I get the feeling Hot Air (read: Malkin and AP) have decided to address the entire issue by just refusing to deal with it. Let’s say they jump on board and in the end nothing comes of this, well now Hot Air has egg on its face. On the other hand, don’t jump on board, but we find out Obama was born in Indonesia, who cares Hot Air never ran the story? We’ll be too busy dancing in the street.

And I’ll play Devil’s Advocate on the revoking part. What if tomorrow we find out that the Army revoked his orders as a lead-in or formality before Court Martial? Wouldn’t seem so odd then?

LastRick on July 16, 2009 at 9:06 PM

I will be so happy the day Hot Air starts ignoring Meghan McCain.

Riling people isn’t such a bad thing. Ed doesn’t, he’s so darned nice. Not to say AP isn’t. However, nothing wrong with a little pot-stirring, and getting debate going. I may disagree with him at times, but I sure don’t want a simple echo chamber.
