Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on July 16, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

At first, I didn’t think this was a big deal ….

U.S. President Barack Obama listens to the national anthem after addressing the Ghanaian Parliament at the Accra International Conference Center in Accra, July 11, 2009.

… until William Amos reminded me of this photograph from the campaign trail in 2007, when Obama, Bill Richardson, and Hillary Clinton visited Iowa:

Time Magazine entitled this one “Respect,” which was as ironic then as it is now.  I’m not sure what the protocol is for an American President during another nation’s national anthem — I suspect that it’s not to give the kind of salute Obama does but merely to maintain a respectful posture — but I do know that an American President should have always given more “respect” to the flag of his own nation, and the pledge of allegiance as well.

Addendum: Normally I’d put a link to Chris Muir’s Day by Day site here, but today I want to do more than that. Chris has a fundraising drive to keep his excellent cartoon alive.  Be sure to drop a few dollars in his collection to keep one of the Rightosphere’s most talented warriors in the fight!

Ok the top pic shows BO with his right hand covering his heart while standing in front of the Ghanaian flag. It also looks as though he is singing? Perhaps he is singing to our national anthem, but the angle is showing the other nation’s flag?

I’m not one to give BO much leeway, but it isn’t beyond belief that this pic could be misconstrued.

Everybody’s sure that wasn’t the American anthem?

not the same place, but note the following:
http://thepage.time.com/pool-report-obama-in-ghana/

Potus, wearing classic dark suit, pinkish tie and what appeared to be the US flag pin on his lapel, stood in a small gazebo next to John Atta Mills and held his hand over his heart as the American national anthem was played. The Ghanaian anthem was played and then Potus reviewed the troops. Then, oddly, the band played the Star Spangled a second time and Potus again clapped his hand over his heart, then came Ghana’s anthem again.

Isn’t the birthers’ claim is pretty tame compared to the reality?

Birther or not, it’s obvious that Obama himself acts as if he did not consider himself a citizen of the United States of America.

The birth certificate is merely a concrete symbol that gives tangible form to a gut feeling.

They may be foolish to make a fetish of the birth certificate, but the underlying cause of that fetish is a perception that all of us share.

It is similar to a govmit-type takeover, so that all commenters are equal but some are more equal than the rest of us.

Certain rules apply, as discussed at length on the tier thread:
1) If you sign your own name after your comment, particularly if your user name is actually your real name, you are a permanent resident of the lowest tiers.
2) Commenters on prime-numbered tiers are far better than other commenters, because we thought of it first.
3) All other rules must have equal logic behind them to justify their existence or I get to change them at random.
