The fact that SuperMitt knows when to kneel to liberal pressure does NOT recommend him for any federal office. You think there's LESS demand for regulation and spending in DC than in Springfield, MA?

Republicans, once elected, do not "grow" towards culling the Ponzi scheme of the welfare state. If anything they morph into Democrats. Eg W Bush. That's why you don't start by moving left in the primaries..not if you give a damn about avoiding a national collapse.

or Huckabee, when the media go into full dirt digging mode on them?

Man, if you don't think they know everything they need to know about huckster then you've been living in a cave somewhere. They have all the dirt they need on huckster, he's from arkansas and former governors from arkansas know where all the bodies are buried, and if and when they feel he is a threat they will use it at the optimum time. That's how they work. JC Watts likely would have been the first black president but as soon as they saw him taking off he mysteriously received a manila envelope on his desk and he retired abruptly from politics. Do you think these republicans just have some kind of brain fart when they vote or say something inexplicable and out of character? Nope. They have received a phone call or e-mail. I guarantee the dnc has some very interesting lindsy grahm photos that they remind him of on a regular basis. They have nothing on Romney or he would have already retired to the golf course, counting his hundreds of millions and living the good life instead of trying to serve his country.

What’s going to happen to either Romney or Huckabee, when the media go into full dirt digging mode on them?

Were you not paying attention in 2007? They camped outside Mitt's house for months and interrogated his landscaper. They dug up a story about his dog from the early 80s. They researched his freaking grandfather!

Have you not learned the new way of political discourse?

Off to the re-education camps for you!

Exactly. Many people think Sarah Palin is some sort of religious extremist, even though her record and rhetoric indicate anything but.

Yes, Palin is better known that either Romney or Huckabee, however it's because the media has been blasting her constantly for a year.

Despite all of that negative information, she is still more popular than either Romney or Huckabee.

Another plus is that everything negative about Palin is already out there and been processed by the electorate.

What's going to happen to either Romney or Huckabee, when the media go into full dirt digging mode on them?

On "RomneyCare" -- don't forget that Romney was elected by the people of Massatwosh*ts and, being the same people who elect Ted Kennedy and John Kerry every six years, they probably really wanted government run health care. Romney did the best for them that he could.

Do some homework. What they are calling Romneycare and bashing him with is not the program he put in place. The democrats chnged it as soon as they could. And it is not just the msm but also the elitist republicans.

peacenprosperity on July 17, 2009 at 7:45 AM

As we have learned from the Sarah Chronicles, the actual record of accomplishments of a Governorship do not matter.
It is the perception of that record that you can create that really matters.

If people say "Socialist RomneyCare" enough times loudly enough, then the truth will no longer be relevant to the discussion (What ever the truth may be).

If Alaska's Permanent Fund is socialism, then so is RomneyCare.

Nevermind what the actual facts are, just yell it loud and long and it will become the accepted truth.

This is our HopeyChangitude "New Politics".

Hey, Mitt is an expert on turning around failing businesses. Who better to "run the economy?" That's what conservatives want, isn't it, the politician most qualified to "run our economy?" He could do a much better job of "running the economy" than Ochavez is doing.

and who is being touted by the GOP establishment (Romney) as ‘the next one’

Not Romney. You people batter the msm and then believe what they tell you. The gop establishment hates Romney because he is an outsider. He is beholden to no one in the party. You people forget that the abuse Palin is getting now from the msm and the snotty elite republicans was being directed at Romney during the primaries.

his Romneycare in Massachusetts seems like an enormous albatross.

Do some homework. What they are calling Romneycare and bashing him with is not the program he put in place. The democrats chnged it as soon as they could. And it is not just the msm but also the elitist republicans. The msm and the republicans want us to beat up Romney and Palin for the next 3 years so they can put some politically correct loser in the race. The republicans will not win with anything but Romney/Palin in 2012. Write it on the barn wall and in 4 years go back and read it and say "Darn if he wasn't right."

I like all three to some degree, but Huckabee much less than the other two.

I don't think Palin will be in a position to win in 2012. Romney exudes competence and can talk on his feet. The problem that I suppose I have with him is that his Romneycare in Massachusetts seems like an enormous albatross.

How can the GOP nominate a candidate who pushed to enact a healthcare program in Massachusetts that the GOP would never support as a federal program. To me, it's akin to nominating a doctor who performs abortions as the candidate. His position on the issue is antithetical to a core GOP position.

This argument by the Gallup folks that Palin received much higher favorable numbers (72) than either Romney (56) or Huckabee (59) based on her being better known is ludicrous. Who has his own TV program on Fox News (Huckabee) and who is being touted by the GOP establishment (Romney) as ‘the next one’ and is a steady presence on the 24/7 cable networks?

I agree. How can republicans never have heard of Romney? Impossible. Huckabee has his own TV show on Fox and the Romney's have been in politics for 5 decades.

Funny how the Mittards are refering to Rush’s last minute attempt to stop McCain from getting the nomination as an “endorsement” of Romney for 2012.

Anyone who listens to Rush nowadays know that he is far more supportive of Palin than anyone else in the GOP.

Norwegian on July 16, 2009 at 5:47 PM

True. I heard it myself today. Rush was talking about this very topic.

Considering all the bashing on Palin (by both sides) 5 points is small potatoes.

We need to focus on 2010. She will turn the tide. I hope Romney rolls up his sleeves and fights for us.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Mitt the guy who considered giving newborn a "laptop"? I don't know about you guys, but I detect a whiff of the "governator" in Mitt. Arnold's personal charisma and strong pledge for low taxes helped him get elected. Look what he's done to CA.

I don't want to vote for a semi conservative to defeat a liberal. I'll vote for Fred Thompson, Sanford (unlikely), or Tom Mcclintock.

Or SOMEONE. Anyone other than the current frontrunners.

The way I see it is that Mitt has the fiscal knowledge to pull us out of the dire mess Mr. Obama has made.

Sarah has the core energy we need to pull us out of our complacency and resignation.

I live in MA and hate the universal care Mitt Romney left us with, but I also realize that it was the democrats that screwed it up to something horrendous. This state is a mini current day Washington D.C. All spending and no reality.

This is why I keep my sights on the person that I think has the knowledge and ability to undo the damage. I think Mitt Romney has this ability given his background. I may not agree with everything he says and does, but I do think he is patriotic and can bring us back to fiscal responsibility and the basics, with what I know about him.

On the next hand, Sarah Palin has the instincts and understanding to do the grass roots digging and planting even if that means not running for POTUS or any other office.

If it means turning this country around, back to what the Founding Fathers desired, then Mitt Romney or Sarah Palin has my vote. I just wish is was today rather than 3.5 years from now...

Huckabee needs to disappear!

My prediction is that he will sneak in as the nominee as people bicker about Romney and Palin, just like how McCain got past Romney and Thompson.

Romney/Palin 2012 is the right ticket!

Mittens is the candidate of the Bush<strike>tard</strike> Establishment G.O.P. that drove the Party to such towering achievements in 2006 and 2008. He was, like, Bush’s favorite candidate. They saw Mittens as “the successor”.

That doesn’t tell you all something about the Mittens?

Bush was a disaster! He and his RINO ilk bastardized conservatism completely!

Mitt would be another GOP disaster!

I don’t understand the draw to Romney.

njpat on July 17, 2009 at 12:09 AM

Last go round, I think it was because he seemed likeliest in the field to win. I supported him on that basis. This time, I think most of it is an "anybody but Palin!" thing.

I don't understand the draw to Romney. Didn't he start state-run healthcare that isn't working out too well?

He reminds of of a televangelist.

Looks like the Fredheads just can't get off the big red borrowed truck of intellectual laziness.

Mitt is pro-abortion? Really?

Get off the Fred Thompson flavored laxative.

But that "True Conservative" John McCain is the one who pulled Sarah Palin out of relative obscurity and handpicked her to second him.

I don't hold that as a strike against her, but if you're basing your pick on who is pushing someone....
