Video: Buck up, little cowpokes!

posted at 2:57 pm on July 15, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Barack Obama starts off with his rhetorical tic, “I just want to be clear,” before saying repeatedly that America has to “buck up” about health-care reform. “Buck up”? Right now, it looks like a trillion bucks up, and counting. A single buck would be a welcome change (via Greg Hengler at TownHall):

The problem with the ObamaCare proposal isn’t a lack of faith in Obama. It’s the unemployment numbers that keep rising, the deficit that Obama keeps growing like the beanstalk in the fable, and the unavoidable taxes that will have to hit all Americans, and not just the rich, as the natural consequence of it all. Instead of “buck up,” the public knows the operative phrase is “brace yourself.”

Update: Forgot to link back to Greg; my apologies.

And that’s why Barry wants to get healthcare and Cap’n Tax done now! Before the August break!

He (and Congress) are afraid that once the general public figures out the economy is really crappy, their taxes are going up, and nothing is really free they won’t be able to get a wimple resolution passed, let alone these crap sandwiches.

No kidding. We’ve just swallowed a trillion dollars in debt and now he tells us to buck up for more? He’s not going to pass this travesty called a health plan and therefore he will fail to achieve one of the core pieces of his agenda. He has to know that. The other smack and charade bill isn’t going to pass either. Buck up for that Obama.

Perhaps this is the way his speechwriters thought he could sound “folksy” and “motivating”. It’s such an awkward phrase that is so out of date, it’s hard not to think it was written by some elite Dem behind the scenes thinking it would go over well with the U.S.

moonsbreath on July 15, 2009 at 3:24 PM

When do people predict that the country starts screaming bloddy murder?

I think there really are only 35% of true believers in Obama- and Gore-type policy. Obama just managed to swing enough voters in an economy suffering from Democratic stupidity surrounding housing and energy policy, with some hurtful GOP acquiescence.

I used to think he’d be in real trouble by Labor Day, but Obamacare and cap-and-trade are slugging along and won’t get enacted, if at all, until the fall. Depending on the timing, I suspect that the moronic MSM will finally start reporting endless lists of unintended consequences (which have already been anticipated by conservatives) of Obama’s agenda by December and January.

In the end, the thing Obama doesn’t seem to realize is that government can employ only so many bureaucrats, so he can’t do anything to stop unemployment from growing. Extending unemployment benefits might be a quick fix in 2010, we’ll see. I’m starting to think that the way to approach this is the way large wild fires are fought: prevent the spread and allow the fire to burn itself out. I’m hoping Obama will be in the middle of the fire that he’s started and has fanned.

This is what we get for electing a guy who has absolutely no background in the American way of life. For years, he made his living essentially extorting money from others. Are we surprised that he has no knowledge or appreciation of capitalism and free markets?

BuckeyeSam on July 15, 2009 at 3:24 PM

The problem with the ObamaCare proposal isn’t a lack of faith in Obama.

Wha? Really? I thought the sentences that followed this statement actually established that we have a lack of faith in Obama…

It’s the unemployment numbers that keep rising, the deficit that Obama keeps growing like the beanstalk in the fable, and the unavoidable taxes that will have to hit all Americans, and not just the rich, as the natural consequence of it all.

When Obama is proven ineligible to be president, will anything he signed still be considered law?

In order to avoid a hearing and discovery, Obama revoked the military orders of a soldier who sued to have Obama prove his eligibility to be president before he obeys any order from him. Within hours of revoking the order the DOD forced a private company to fire the soldier.

Buck up, Barry. You want to be the commander in chief? Then show you’re eligible for the job. You can’t revoke everybody’s orders forever.

The fact of the matter is that Obama is for sale. He will do ANYTHING to keep his official documents hidden. Anybody who has access to the proof can name their price.

Can Senators force a criminal probe and subpoena documents? If Republican Senators have any powers to access the proof, then they can stop Obama from cramming all this down our throats simply by making a short visit on him.

Although this is one of my favorite quotations, I do not think it applies to Obama. He is about power, not making things better for everybody as a whole. He knows that his plans will lead to collective suffering, but he thinks it is still more desirable because it is more FAIR, in his opinion. This is similar to the opinion he gave to charlie gibson concerning capital gains and dynamic tax analysis. That was very revealing. He is a proponent of having our standard of living lowered as a whole “for purposes of fairness.” He is smart enough to realize that these policies result in collective suffering.
