Obama: Hey, we’re going to keep losing jobs
posted at 4:30 pm on July 14, 2009 by Allahpundit
No worries. It’s only because unemployment lags behind recovery or “stabilization” or whatever sunny euphemism he’s using now to spin the nightmare. It’s probably just a quirk of my online reading habits but I’ve stumbled across more pessimism about the economy today than I’ve seen since the stimulus passed in February, which makes me wonder if public confidence in The One’s blueprint is starting to deteriorate in earnest. Start with Mort Zuckerman’s harrowing op-ed about how things are much worse than they seem, with the possibility of sustained unemployment at 11 percent ahead. Then read Politico’s description of the “widespread disdain” it found when it surveyed economists from across the spectrum about Obama’s growth projections. Proceed to Time magazine, normally a reliable cheering section for Barry O, where the stimulus is now being pronounced an early failure. And cap it off with new poll numbers from Gallup showing a six-point downward swing on whether the economy’s getting better in just one month. The good news for Obama is that the early rosy projections will be forgiven once things really do start to turn around. The bad news is that blowing $787 billion on a non-fix won’t be.
Incidentally, if you’re wondering where leftist spin is headed next, look no further than Robert Reich. Turns out we can’t blame Obama for failing to kickstart a recovery — because the economy will never recover.

Meh, they weren’t buying competence to begin with, so buyer’s remorse doesn’t enter into it. They were buying a rock star. They got one.
When Obama stops being an international rock star is when his poll numbers will mean something. His rock star status is a function of his media game, which is heavily tied to the near-messianic regard with which he’s held by the media. Obama could eat a baby on live television, and it would produce a “subculture of tribal reenactment” replete with NYT culture write-ups and product lines. The man is untouchable because there’s no man there to touch.
It’ll be a year or more (probably post-2010) before his numbers will start back-feeding to the Democrat party.
The America that voted this man in would vote him back in today. They got what they wanted and more. The reasons why this is have nothing to do with the economy. Or national defense. Obama is loved and respected by the world, and by proxy, they are loved and respected by the world; these the same people that apologized to the world so contritely for not being able to give the world John Kerry in 2004.
America is steadily going mad. Obama is their avatar.

When a business has expeditures beyond their income for an extended period of time they begin what is called a death spiral. Obama sold Porkulous on the idea it would save the economy. It didn’t it made things far worse. Now he is trying to sell health care and cap & trade as a fix for the economy and it will also make things worse. I am afraid the country has entered the proverbial death spiral. The best thing you can do is take care of your family as best you can because nobody else can help. Sorry but things are only going to get worse for a long time.

WASHINGTON, July 14 (Reuters) – A sweeping overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system to be announced on Tuesday in the U.S. House of Representatives will include a surtax on millionaires of 5.4 percent, congressional sources said.
The tax rate is higher than the 3 percent surtax lawmakers had been discussing earlier and would be imposed on those making more than $1 million a year, the sources said.

If I were a foreign investor…say, perhaps China, and I saw all these “rosy” projections, and the growing multi-trillion dollar US debt, and that $1trillion deficit, I’d start calling in my markers…try to recover as much of my “investment” now rather than wait a few months or a year or so to be paid back in inflated dollars or no dollars at all.
Better to seek 75-80 cents on the dollar now than wait another year and be offered 10 cents on the dollar.
That will be the next “stuff” to hit the fan.

Just so I understand this: the government is considering just flat-out making mortgage payments for people who can’t make their payments. WTF?
And, if you are already going through foreclosure, the government will step in and arrange it with the bank so that you can keep renting the home. What business is it of the government’s?
Why should they get to lean on the banks like that. The banks usually just want to unload these homes and get what they can for them. Is the government going to make them be landlords now?
This government is out of control.

Dear Mr. Bernanke,
I would like to cancel the $787,000,000,000 check that Mr. Obama claimed was absolutely necessary. He tried to get me to write it so fast I didn’t really know what it was for. Over time, I’ve begun to realize it was pointless, as the reasons Mr. Obama gave for its necessity have been shattered. Even he says it isn’t working, so I would greatly appreciate the cancellation of the check, and stopping the funds from the direction they are now heading. Put the $15 charge on Mr. Obama’s account please, along with the responsibility for all the jobs he lost.

As I said in another thread the place was pushing the seams when I was there and a lady there told me a lot of people were exhausting their benefits after FIFTY WEEKS.

SP, you NAILED IT. America, and the West, is so locked into a hypnotic entertainment trance that no candidate can make it to the WH without the media’s blessing. The entertainment industry will not tolerate anyone who presumes to step on their expression of amoral laff-fest movies and TV, and clap-happy stories as peddled by Oprah and her TV ilk. Public remorse and seriousness don’t help sell Bruno tickets. BHO is their ace to keep things safely flowing out of Hollywood, just as Clinton was for 8 years.
The entertainment industry has a stranglehold on this country, and its news media department makes sure it is never threatened. The likes of Palin make them rally like no one else. When she named Jesus as her Lord, that was the end of her in their book. ‘Biblical’ targets are always loaded with mockery material.
The coming firestorm will put an unpleasant crimp in the Hollywood/news media elite’s pockets. ‘Bruno’ will have to find some other way to keep the $40M advances coming in.
