Two men charged in Minneapolis terror investigation
posted at 5:00 pm on July 14, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
After several months of questions about the disappearance of dozens of young Somali men from Minneapolis — and the deaths of three of them in Somalia — the federal court has unsealed an indictment against two men for supporting terrorist activity. The FBI has worked for months to discover the fate of a number of young men who all attended one particular mosque in the Twin Cities. Their family members have run afoul of CAIR in attempting to cooperate in finding their relatives:
The first indictments in a major counterterrorism investigation became public Monday when a Twin Cities Somali man appeared in federal court on charges of providing support to terrorists and conspiracy to “kill, kidnap, maim or injure” people in foreign countries.
A federal grand jury had indicted Salah Osman Ahmed, 26, of Brooklyn Park, and Abdifatah Yusuf Isse, of Seattle, in February, but the indictments were kept sealed until Ahmed appeared Monday afternoon before Magistrate Judge Susan Richard Nelson.
Special agent E.K. Wilson confirmed Monday that the indictments of Isse and Ahmed are connected to a major federal investigation into the disappearance of up to 20 local men of Somali descent. It is believed that the Minnesota men may have been recruited by terrorists to return to their families’ homeland to fight in the continuing civil war there. Since October, at least four have died there.
Somalis in Minneapolis have demanded action, and for that, they have been intimidated by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), as the Star-Tribune reported almost exactly a month ago. Their attempts to work with the FBI got a big “shut up” from CAIR. In response, Somalis protested outside of a community center demanding that CAIR quit interfering with their efforts to find those family members who had disappeared — and presumably went back to Somalia to engage in terrorist activities.
The death of another teen in Somalia this weekend makes this news even more important:
“It’s good news to us,” said Abdirizak Bihi, uncle of Burhan Hassan, an 18-year-old Minneapolis man who died in June in Somalia after being shot in the head. “The community just wants to be done with this.”
Bihi said the three deaths over the past month — of Hassan in June and Jamal Bana and Zakaria Maruf this past weekend — have shaken the relatives of the other missing men.
The indictment alleges that Ahmed and Isse’s activities took place in the same time period of the disappearances. Both men traveled to Somalia during this period, as the Strib reports, and apparently the prosecution believes they arranged to send recruits to the Islamist terrorists that have made a home in that country. The court proceedings did not reveal many details, but the ongoing investigation indicates that more indictments may come in the future. That may be bad news for the Abubakar Islamic Society in Minneapolis, where the activity seems to have been centered. (via Power Line)

This should put to rest the leftist meme that poverty creates terrorists.
Imagine the virulence of this ideology to get these Somalis to abandon the relative peace and prosperity of Minn. to go die in that Somali hell hole. Lets count ourselves lucky they decided to send them to Somalia and not NYC.

I’m sure Ellison is on the case to get them diplomatic passports.

BUt DHS tells me the real danger is from right-wing extremists–like Jose Padilla, the WTC bombers, the beltway snipers, the 9/11 bombers, the would-be millennium bomber, the would-be NYC mosque bombers, and . . . oh wait, never mind. Those were Muslims, too.

good these monsters should be shot for their actions.

Well, I guess the cia won’t be able to investigate these people in the future. Dear nan says the cia ‘lie’ and have not helped our country. I wonder how nan would feel if these ‘rop’ went after one of her family members?

I’m torn by this. On one hand the Somali families seem to be making a good-faith effort to protect their young men.
On the other hand I’ve seen too many Somali “advocates” inform the rest of Minnesota that we need to assimilate THEIR customs, such as Somali target cashiers refusing to touch pork products or Somali taxi-drivers refusing to allow guide dogs in their cars.
Bishop on July 14, 2009 at 5:17 PM
Love the Somali people, beware this religion.

Should I be shocked?

Somewhere, some time soon good old Americans are going to have to quit listening to the left side of the aisle and admit that this is a problem. We are told that we need to bend over backwards to make these people able to recreate their homeland in Minnesota and Detroit but then are surprised when we see that they are supporting a larger agenda not just with words but with deeds and bodies.
I’m glad this is seeing the light of day but am pretty sure that this is the tip of the iceberg.
ORconservative on July 14, 2009 at 5:23 PM
Bishop,
The Jewish people DO not eat pork, but they deal in our nation. Do the Jewish workers handle pork in a supermarker? Why should we put the rop above all others in our nation? If you don’t do dogs, don’t have a taxi for a person who has a seeing eye dog. If we continue to let them do this, we will be as UK. On inch at a time.

Fully agree, I don’t appreciate being told that I just need to understand the Somali culture or religion while I wait for Target to replace the cashier because she doesn’t want to touch a pack of bacon.
But I’m not ready to condemn all muslims either because the fanatics are bent on domination.

This situation was created by America, and by European colonialism in Africa. But for that, Africa would have no genocide, famine or even drought.
America should pay reparations, immediately. And it should be in the trillions.

OFF TOPIC
Someone please be kind enough to explain something to me. Now, do people keep spelling “Teh” incorrectly because they’re having a temporary moment of dyslexia, or is there some ‘joke’ behind that? (i.e. “Teh One”, “Teh Dude”, etc).
Secondly, WTH does “pwned” mean?? I keep wanting to think it means “owned”, but then I wonder why the $&@#*# people don’t just spell it correctly to BEGIN with?
Someone? Anyone?
LiquidH2O on July 14, 2009 at 5:33 PM
Oh, and desert and sand. But for America and European colonialism, there would be no desert and sand in Africa. Africa must be returned to Utopia.
OhEssYouCowboys on July 14, 2009 at 5:33 PM
It is a conspiracy to confound you. Again, the product of America and European colonialism.

Anyway, thanks for the laugh.

“Pwned” = Owned..the P is next to the O and it’s a mistype that became a word on the internets
“Teh” I’m not sure about, but probably the same thing.
I only know this because I play World of Warcraft /ashamed.

Might as well let them go now. No way is Holder going to prosecute them. Their black. Just like the 3 Black Panthers indicted for voter intimidation. Holder didn’t see any crime there either.

And I refuse to start ‘tweeting.’

Just the term, “tweet,” pisses me off. Between commercials on the radio and on television, and the use of “tweet,” I seem to always be pissed.

So, people PURPOSELY appear to not have learned anything in grade school? *Raises eyebrow* There are just some things in life I’ll never understand.
Speaking of grade school…didn’t you HATE when you couldn’t spell a word and you’d ask your teacher how to spell it and their dumb asses would be like, “Look it up in the dictionary”. Grrr!!! It’s like, HELLO, nitwit!! If I don’t know how to SPELL IT how am I going to “look it up”?!?!
LiquidH2O on July 14, 2009 at 5:53 PM
I remember having to do grunt work in elementary school. This was in the ’60s. We’d have to look up 25 words, and write them and their definitions down. Redundancy was the order of the day.
Now, they skip the dictionary and just put condoms on bananas.
All hail the Obama voters.

When Minnesota decides to import Mooslim voters wholesale from a 7th Century hellhole, well, there will be little glitches from time to time.
Our main concern here should be to assure there isn’t any ugly back-lash against our “mainstream” Mooslim friends – both of them.

I truly do not understand why people leave their war torn and/or poverty stricken and/or corrupt countries to come to the U.S.A. only to bring with them the very same culture which made their country such a horrible place that they wanted to leave there to begin with.
What makes the U.S.A. great is it’s _culture_. It is a culture steeped in Christian Values (honesty, integrity, charity, a hard work ethic, loving one’s neighbor, etc.), our founding documents and enough freedom, justice and liberty to go around.
To move here from anywhere that you would rather leave behind, but then to refuse to assimilate in any way, thereby perpetuating and planting more of the culture that was so bad that you wanted to leave it in the first place, only gnaws away at the fabric of this country and only helps to bring those problems here.
Leave those problems at home and assimilate.
No matter what the modern liberal political correct thinking would brainwash you into believing,
Not all cultures are equal or equally valid.
Not all ideas are equal or equally valid.
Not all points of view are equal or equally valid.
So many people want all of the good things which America offers, the freedom, the liberty and the prosperity. However, many people and countries want those good things without making the changes necessary to the fundamental underpinnings of their society, their culture and their government.
Communist China is a great example. They want the prosperity, but they are not willing to allow the freedom necessary to allow it to truly occur.
Mexico is another great example. They want the prosperity, but they are not willing to change the fundamental underpinnings of their society in order to remove the corruption, lack of integrity and dishonesty from their culture.
When a country is truly willing to change, then they can experience their flavor of our culture (keeping many of their traditions and habits, but only as long as they do not conflict with the newly adopted culture). Japan is a prime example of this. After WWII, they adopted the tenets and underlying principles of our culture and they witnessed the prosperity and liberty which it produces.
One of the fundamental problems with the country today is that the liberal end of the country continues to deride, deny and ridicule everything upon which this country was made great- those Christian Values, Founding Documents, etc.. As a result, half of the country is teetering on the edge of the abyss (fiscally, socially and culturally) and seems hell bent on taking the other half with it. Obama is a great example of this.
Those who migrate here need to leave behind those beliefs and cultural values which made them wish to leave their homelands in the first place. Those who already live here but who have abandoned the things which made this country great need to come to their senses before they drag down the entire American way of life.
As for the rest of us, we must all peacefully but steadfastly be stalwarts of our culture, our heritage and what made this country great, for these are the very things which made this country the best one on earth. Only then do we have a chance of correcting the suicidal course on which we find ourselves to one where we can once again hold our heads up high in the assurance that we are leaving the U.S.A. to our children in better condition than it was left to us, just as our fathers and our grandfathers did.
