Video: Anti-abortion protester disrupts Sotomayor hearing

It didn’t take long for the first disruption of the Sonia Sotomayor confirmation hearing to occur. An anti-abortion protester shouted about “unborn Latinos,” bringing Senator Dianne Feinstein’s questioning to a momentary halt:

The second disruption occured a couple of hours later; I’ll add the video to this post as soon as I get it.

I oppose abortion, but is this the correct strategy to fight it? We regularly roll our eyes at the Code Pink protests at Congressional hearings when they disrupt proceedings. They even got on Barney Frank’s nerves in March. These disruptions marginalize the legitimate efforts by pro-life activists to end the millions of abortions in the US.

As Life News attests, we need to emphasize the mainstream credibility of pro-life views in this administration:

During a Senate committee meeting on Friday, a leading pro-abortion senator was forced to admit that one of the health care bills pending in the Senate will include abortion coverage. After the admission, the Senate panel voted to include abortions in that version of a national health care plan.

Three pro-life senators used Thursday’s Senate HELP Committee meeting to force the leadership’s hand on its agenda of including abortion in a public health care plan.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski, a Maryland Democrat, stammered her way through an explanation of an amendment to the health care bill that would cover abortion.

When pressed by Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican, she admitted that her language would force health insurance companies to contract with abortion groups like Planned Parenthood.

We need to keep pressing Congress to keep from expanding abortion in the US, especially by providing taxpayer funding for it, as Obamacare will do in a public plan if it follows the rules set forth for private-sector insurance.
