Quotes of the day

“Somebody wrote to me on vacation and said, you know, what do you think about Sarah Palin, you know, would you endorse Sarah Palin, blah, blah‑blah. No, never. Not because of any other reason than these people have betrayed me and what I believe and what they said they believe over and over and over and over again. I don’t believe any politician. However, with that being said if I had a gun to my head and had to pick one, I think I would pick Sarah Palin. Does that mean she is who she says she is? I don’t know yet. But I know she’s not who the media says she is. And who the media says she is is stupid…

Now we’re at the beginning of this shift of the paradigm, but I believe Sarah Palin understands that and she understands that the two‑party system, whether it’s in two weeks, two years, ten years, I don’t know, but the two‑party system either has to correct itself which would be a major purge, or the two‑party system is broken forever. I think she knows that… I could be wrong but I think she’s brilliant.”

***
“Just 24 percent of those accept Palin’s explanation that she resigned because it was the right thing to do for Alaska. More than twice that percentage – 52 percent – cited her political ambition as the reason for her resignation…

Thirty-nine percent of those surveyed expect Palin to run for president in 2012, while 43 percent say she will not. If she runs, she’ll likely face widespread skepticism: As CBS News revealed Monday morning, just 22 percent say Palin has the ability to be an effective president. Sixty-five percent say she does not.”

ooooh saracuda attacking in the wapo:

“Job losses are so certain under this new cap-and-tax plan that it includes a provision accommodating newly unemployed workers from the resulting dried-up energy sector, to the tune of $4.2 billion over eight years. So much for creating jobs.

“The ironic beauty in this plan? Soon, even the most ardent liberal will understand supply-side economics.

The Americans hit hardest will be those already struggling to make ends meet. As the president eloquently puts it, their electricity bills will “necessarily skyrocket.” So much for not raising taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year.

Even Warren Buffett, an ardent Obama supporter, admitted that under the cap-and-tax scheme, “poor people are going to pay a lot more for electricity.” “

Yesterday, I watched part of Palin’s Convention speech. Palin had an army of Conservative women ready to do battle for her and I think she can win them back. I also think she has a chance to mobilize young adults like no one in the Republican Party has ever done before.

It will be great to watch how she threads the needle in the next 6 months. Does she get caught up in the pursuit of money or the pursuit of principle? Can she put forth policies the GOP will rally around or does she have to blaze her own trail?

I hope she pushes Drill Here – Drill Now for oil and natural gas. Throw in nuclear and we have real job creation.

You know the most terrifying thing the liberals have to face? That Sarah doesn’t run for office, taking the the Rush Limbaugh route to power (which certainly pays better).

Rush, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin organizing the Tea Party movement into the power within the GOP; that’s the way to go.

michaelo on July 13, 2009 at 11:25 PM

As CBS News revealed Monday morning, just 22 percent say Palin has the ability to be an effective president. Sixty-five percent say she does not.

This is kind of funny, as I don’t think most people could even explain what an “effective President” is. I know that CBS would never ask people to define it (or give a definition) since The Precedent would certainly not measure up to whatever they define it as.

Palin was very specific in listing the promises she made during her campaign for Alaska Governor and how her adminsitration had done what she said, but you’d never get any of that into a CBS poll on her. Compare that to The Precedent and all of the BS that spilled out of his mouth on the campaign trail, after which the MSM praised his “political acumen” whenever he did what he said he wouldn’t do, or didn’t do what he said he would. But, at least he is every bit the traitor that sensible people saw him to be … That’s got to be worth something, I guess.

“We have an important choice to make. Do we want to control our energy supply and its environmental impact? Or, do we want to outsource it to China, Russia and Saudi Arabia? Make no mistake: President Obama’s plan will result in the latter.

For so many reasons, we can’t afford to kill responsible domestic energy production or clobber every American consumer with higher prices.

Can America produce more of its own energy through strategic investments that protect the environment, revive our economy and secure our nation?

Yes, we can. Just not with Barack Obama’s energy cap-and-tax plan.”

CCRWM on July 13, 2009 at 11:35 PM

I certainly hope Sarah Palin has political ambitions. John McCain certainly didn’t except perhaps to lose to Ozero.

Anyway, Back here in PA a guy started a grassroots organization called Cleansweep as a response to some bipartisan kleptocracy shenaningans. What they did was to recruit people to run for the state house and senate. They provided coaching as to how to get on the ballot and how to run. That shook things up a bit. Unfortunately there were some internal squabbles and the group pretty much disolved.

If Sarah Palin runs as a third party at just the presidential level, then I’m not sure that will accomplish much other than to get OZero a second term. However, if she were to run as a third party AND get a couple of hundred people to run for congress, that will certainly get the attention of the GOP. Perhaps the ‘big tent’ approach won’t look as attractive as it did.

In many states, they deck is stacked against third party candidates, especially for the house and senate. You need a sh*tload more signatures for your nomination petition than do the GOP/DONKS. It aint fair but it is what it is.

Another third party story is Jesse Ventura. That was a real upset and I’m sure there were a lot of smoky late night meetings for both the repubs and demos trying to figure out what the hell happened.

I still stand by what I said earlier. I think Sarah could be the motivation for a grassroots bloodless coup of the GOP. Get the people who are fed up and scared cr*pless with the current administration and get them into the GOP at the local, county and state level. Tell the old boy, business as usual morons to step aside while we win some elections for them.

journeyintothewhirlwind on July 13, 2009 at 11:37 PM

I really really like Sarah!, but for my wishy-washy side, it all comes down to…

…Who does she support in the 2010 Florida Senate primary?

Does she support squishy I-love-the-stimulus gov. Charlie Crist, kissy kissy buddy of McCain’s, a RINO’s RINO, a guy who never met an issue that wasn’t worth polling before deciding????

Or does she support MARCO RUBIO, an up-and-coming Florida state leg, DANG good speaker (easy on the eyes for the ladies), endorsed by ACTUAL fiscal con jim demint, true ’small government’ conservative (watch his farewell speech to the florida leg — no teleprompter, no notes! — and tell me you haven’t found ‘the one’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yc-qRFpAM4)?????

Another wrench into the mix: HUCK-A-SHAM has already come out in support of Rubio. McCain, obviously, still loves Crist (the senator). If she endorses Crist, it will be turning your back on the CONSERVATIVES for the ESTABLISHMENT. If she endorses Rubio, she eliminates Huckabee as the only ’supporter of true conservatives’.

THAT’S the one to watch for: Rubio or Crist? If I her were I’d support Rubio early in 2010. If she says yay Crist, well, then, I might have to go back to wasting my vote on Badnarik….

I agree though that her pausing look bad, and that her refusal to name one specific one (or several) didn’t help either.

“Why should I name ANYTHING Katie? If I told you I read the Yale Law Review you’d turn your nose up at me from your office in Manhattan. And If I tell you I read the Alaska Paper sports section, you’d say I was stupid as well. President Bush released a ‘reading list’ a few summers ago that contained a few classics, and the hosts of C-SPAN, C-SPAN KATIE, couldnt contain their delight that “this list can’t be real”.

Instead, how about you name 3 republicans that you’ve voted for in your entire life, or 3 hosts on FoxNews or conservative TalkRadio that you enjoy, since you’re supposed to be “nonpartisan”?????”

Well, yeah. I see what you mean. Variety for the quote of the day would be nice. And your right. He could go after other stories like the CIC. But if AP feels like putting up another Palin thread, then hey. Who are we to interfere with his decision? And AP isn’t the only blogger here. The green room is always open too.

Fantastic! This is what we Palin supporters know she can deliver. She has courage, confidence, isn’t afraid of or intimidated by the One. Go Sarah!

CCRWM on July 13, 2009 at 11:45 PM

And yet, the idea that she didn’t read any is just preposterous, because even if that were true, it wouldn’t explain why she didn’t just name one well known publication.

Esthier on July 13, 2009 at 11:39 PM

I don’t read any newspapers. Haven’t bought one in years and years. I don’t even read their web sites. I don’t read any magazines, either. I never saw the big problem with her not naming any. That was just some manufactured MSM outrage that was totally meaningless.

Mrs. Sarah Palin has the capability to act as an armored cavalry regiment and decimate the statist liberal rear areas on two key objectives: Debt and Energy.

She has freedom of movement.

Infantry: prepare to march.

ted c on July 13, 2009 at 10:34 PM

Very good metaphor!

Red State State of Mind on July 13, 2009 at 11:40 PM

Keep in mind guys, the original meaning of the word ‘decimate’. If the Romans had a battle that went Fubar and there was any way to blame the troops, there was a little procedure after the battle.

The troops would line up in ranks and the officers would go down counting from one to 10. If you were #10, you dropped your weapons, put your head on the block and said goodbye to the world. The idea of decimation was that it was supposed to put the spine back in the troops.

Anyway, given that meaning, we need to decimate the GOP. However, unlike the relatively random Roman Process, we need to do it selectively and get the to 10% Rinoists out of the party or out of power. Arlen spector ‘defecting’ is a good start.

FontanaConservative on July 13, 2009 at 11:38 PM

Madison can be a bit aggressive, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was in a few feuds. I like him myself, but at one point we had one ourselves, and I don’t even remember why. It didn’t end until the House Republicans had that sit-in and we were both so proud of them that we decided to bury the hatchet.

Often though, he just gets into arguments with people who going around starting trouble. There’s Maximus (something) and right4life. Several have been banned already.

A few people here kinda hate me, even when I’m agreeing with them, but anytime I write their names, they start up with me again, so I’ll just leave it at that.

Jet gets into a few, but I can’t think of any that lasted any longer than a thread or two.

That’s all I can think of right now, since many who were in them have already been banned, and for the most part people seem to like each other here.

I know, I was trying to type that with a straight face.

Anyway, here is an alpha male for you. Subaro Sakai. He took a .30 MG round through his head. Plugged the hole with his scarf and flew 5+ hours back to Rabul. Whenever he was ready to pass out, he twiddled his brain with his finger. He refused to get medical attention after he landed until he gave his report to his CO.

Also, add in the Canadian Smokey Smith who took on 3 Panzers, Two Self Propelled Arty pieces adn about 30 german infantry with a PIAT and a tommy gun.

Both Todd and Sarah are in the Alpha category. … Breaking an arm and still finishing fourth. Sarah runs for fun in 30 below weather…

progressoverpeace on July 13, 2009 at 11:46 PM

You won’t hear me defending the MSM, but I do think that a public figure – a politican and governor – should be expected to keep abreast of events and issues.

My problem was with her agreeing to do the Couric interview in the first place. It was all risk and no reward. She should have told Couric to go show that fascinating video of her colon again, instead.

guntotinglibertarian on July 13, 2009 at 11:57 PM

I understand why Palin reacted to that Couric newspaper question the way she did. She thought there was some hidden gotcha element involved and that Couric was patronizing her as not knowing newspapers. But she should have just answered some paper in Alaska and the Left would have been deprived its main talking point. I want a candidate who is able to do this on the fly.

Difference is you probably had to see the Obama bumbling on youtube or something, but any time Palin or any Republican stumbles, the MSM will beat it to death over and over and over. And unfortunately, the sheep out there watch broadcast TV and CNN – and the read Newsweek and Time.

When’s the last time you saw anything other than CNN in an airport departure lounge?
