Liz Cheney: Yeah, I might run for office eventually

Her immediate focus is on raising her five kids, she says, but Palin proved that’s no insuperable obstacle to public service (even if one of those kids is, er, pregnant). Besides, time isn’t on LC’s side. Even though she’s young and has carved out a sweet media niche for herself over the last few months as a charming, mom-ish version of her dad, once he fades from the political scene, she necessarily will too unless she can build some independent national role for herself in the meantime. But where? A Virginia congressional seat is one possibility, but the state’s been trending blue and has youngish, popular Democrats at the top in Webb, Warner, and Kaine. She could take advantage of Dick’s Wyoming roots and try to carpetbag it out there in a safe red state, but Enzi and Barrasso are both in the way and not particularly old.

Or maybe, instead of running now, she could hitch her wagon to some other popular Republican as an advisor/spokesman and build her name recognition that way. Hmmmmmmm:

Do you agree with Peggy Noonan that Sarah Palin is bad for the Republican Party or do you agree with Pat Buchanan that she could be good at healing the party?

“I … have a lot of respect for Peggy Noonan but I think she’s been living in Manhattan for too long. So, I’d have to say on this one I’m with Pat. I think that, you know, Governor Palin is somebody who’s going to surprise a lot of people. I think that she’s going to be very interesting to watch in the coming months and years and somebody who really inspires the base of the Republican Party. And, you know, she’s been saying she’s going to be out there talking about limited government and low taxes and strong national defense and I think those are things that are going to have broad appeal even beyond the base of the party…”

So says a woman who’s spent most of her professional life in and around D.C. and Chicago. I’m sure she’s on the level with her ‘Cuda love, though: The page-one Times story on Palin this morning explicitly mentioned the two of them “bonding” over the demands of motherhood when they met. They’re a natural match — almost the same age, similarly adored by the base, and sharing an appetite for political red meat. E.g., listen to the audio of Liz’s interview with Scarborough this morning and you’ll hear her in fine Cheney fashion accuse the Democrats of being “uncomfortable” with killing jihadis. In fact, often when LC talks policy she sounds like what I thought Palin would sound like during the campaign before I, er, found out what Palin sounded like during the campaign. She’d make a great spokesperson for ‘Cuda ‘12. If only she hadn’t worked on Romney’s campaign last year! Exit question: Will the Liz Cheney primary endorsement be a bellwether for the base in 2011?

If only she hadn’t worked on Romney’s campaign last year!

Who cares?

As long as she didn’t work on the ship of traitors known as the McCain campaign, I don’t care if she worked for the pro-choice offspring of Mel Martinez and Olympia Snowe…

Finally. Since Reagan. Someone I don’t have to cringe while listen to or reading about. How so very refreshing.

Liz Cheney is a superb debater/explainer of conservative positions (at least the ones I’ve heard her address). She’ll do fine even after Dick Cheney leaves the public scene, though with the Dems as intent as ever on their “Truth Commissions” it looks like they’re going to try to keep Dick Cheney talking.

This new attempt of the Dems to paint a program to assassinate Al Quaeda members as some sort of rogue operation is going to blow up in their faces even worse than GITMO or their other moronic moves and it’s red meat for Liz Cheney. She can devour 40 or 50 Dems on their dislike of that program, alone. It’s going to be an absolute bloodbath.

progressoverpeace on July 13, 2009 at 7:32 PM

Go Liz. Run for office. The more actual conservatives the better.

Not pointless at all. My point is that Palin didn’t let her daughter’s pregnancy and the national headlines that would ensue once it was discovered deter her from joining the ticket. It puts LC’s reluctance to run for office while she’s raising her kids in perspective.

I wish she would run in VA for Senator. The two we have are not attractive in any way. There have to be lots of Warner voters with lots of buyer’s remorse now. Webb and Warner are following the Party line perfectly. Kaine was the chairman of the Obama election committee last year. Nothing attractive about that. If you pay any attention to these clowns they have followed the Obama line down to every detail. None of them have a coherent policy except to go where Obama goes. Frankly, I think they are committing political suicide, but that is just me.

Brilliant. A fine angle if I’ve ever seen one. If Liz Cheney can be the one to do the limited government thing without being melodramatic about religion or morals I’m sure I’d vote for her over Obama.

what? how condescending of you to imply that her role is linked soley to her fathers star. From what I’ve seen she has done just fine so far carving out a niche and it has had little to do with her father. She has been active in government and has the experience to carry on in politics based on that experience. Its not necessary to coddle her, or worry about her father fading from the scene.

So says a woman who’s spent most of her professional life in and around D.C. and Chicago.

Living “in” and begin “a part of” are two totally different habits.
You can live be “a part of” something, without physically being there.
Maureen Dowd is the Manhatten elite, she would no more understand someone from Idaho, then someone for Idaho would trust what she says.
She only knows what comes from “breeding”, not living…

Eh good point. But I still think much of the overall strategy of the mccain campaign was the worst GOP campaign since… Bush 41 in 1992?
-suspending the campaign to save Anericas economy, then not saving it?
-railing about earmarks (10 million?) when TARP was 700,000 million
-ditching publicly Michigan that whole scuffle
-sending Palin first to Katie (sam nunnery ner Obama vp wrote those questions) or chArlie, why not start with Rush or Hannity??
-not going after G D America wright EVER
-never mentioning the word acorn
-no plan for the banking crisis
-silence about dodd and frank; amazingly McCain tried to reform fnma and fmac 15 times and the dems said no

What part of the campaign should j be impressed with? He almost lost a Dakota to a Chicago Marxist????????

A Virginia congressional seat is one possibility, but the state’s been trending blue and has youngish, popular Democrats at the top in Webb, Warner, and Kaine.blockquote>

Warner is only popular because of his cozy relationship with the NRA, and the NRA owns Virginia politics. We’ll see how happy the southern VA voters are with the Harry Reid following party-line voter Jim Webb, and Tim Kaine is a walking punchline. When Bob McDonell is elected Governor in November, maybe you’ll finally get that wake-up call about Virginia politics.

Heh. If we only had a woman with the last name of Bush to run, I could just dig my Bush/Cheney buttons and stickers out of the drawer.

BacaDog on July 13, 2009 at 8:48 PM

Yeah, and then you could scrape them off and finally throw them away after Bush/anything loses in a landslide.

Hey the “Romney running for Senate in Nevada” rumors have died down (unfortunately). How does Mrs. Cheney like Vegas? Or more rural parts of the state are very nice, if you like dry Western topography, and she’d be willing to go after Reid’s seat.

(Hey, I’ll try to get anybody to take Harry out, and that’s not a dig at her).
