Retailers since the dawn of the Republic have understood that prices domininated as $1.95 or $1.99 – or $1.96 – seem, to the consumer – to be substantially less than $2.00.

I realize that the GOP tries to be the “honest party”, but what the hell… that headline should have read, “2 million jjobs lost”>

Please, please, please do not go down that road. That is the reasoning of the Dems: government, by right, commands 100% of your income and any level less than 100% constitutes a “tax break”.

Domestic ethanol, by the way, benefits from more than just a “tax break” – it benefits from prohibitive tariffs which exclude Brazil’s more efficient sugar-based ethanol. (Not that I am for ethanol, period.)

Our tax system is a nightmare of smoke, mirrors and special-interest looting. The Republicans play that game along with the Dems.

What we need is a flat tax, a “fair tax” or – preferably – repeal of the 16th Amendment.

We also need to assure that the 60% of families who are essentially paying zero income tax contribute a reasonable amount to pay for the the cost of government. If they are not required to pay for those costs, they will demand infinite expansion of the size of government.

What we do not need is for the Republicans to come up with more cockamamie subsidies for alternative energy.

Govgirl isn’t a bad sort, but her assertion that those of us who choose to hold Republican politicians’ feet to the fire are DISHONEST is irritating, to say the least.

I realize that there has been much buzz about Eric Cantor as some dreamy rising star in the GOP, but his statement on the House floor about the “noble” effort to reduce greenhouse gases just tells me – as it tells you – that he’d be perfectly happy to bend over for anyone who will give him some Sunday air time.

Exactly we need to eliminate the following federal department and agencies- USDA, DOC, ED, HHS, HUD, DOL, DOI, DOT, DEA,and ATF we then could cut way back on DOJ and Federal courts. I would also limit DHS. Give rights back to states and let federal government handle foreign affairs and limited domestics issues like DOE and assisting states with interstate issues. States already have laws for crimes that are now federal also. FBI should be used as resource for states only for inter state serial killers and such. Federal Marshals have become tax police letting federal government steal your belongings. We also need to help support freedom of other people around the world in our own interest. If we don’t step up to task no one will and it will come back to us in some negative way. I think that abortion is a states rights issue but don’t think it is right. A woman has right to say no, right to say do not enter, right to say use condom or other birth control, but once she has given right to an act that most likely will result in pregnancy, then the developing child has rights to life. Treasury needs to be limited to task of keeping long term inflation at zero and nothing else like ensuring full employment. LET THE MARKET FREE!!! CATO has good stuff on this. SS and Medicare has people already invested their money but should be privatized. Health care should be portable state to state and job to job, with some kind of unemployment insurance bridge over component. NO SINGLE PAYER DOCTOR Kevorkian run system. Obama regime is as far from the above as we have gotten so far in our history. We need to take our country back or God help US!!

I agree and disagree- The evidence that C02 is rising has good evidence. The connection that it is causing global warming is not by far proven. Humans causing rise in CO2 maybe but the solutions by the liberals are insane, dangerous and dose nothing to improve the environment. The Human CO2 connection is the weight of Carbon that was sequestered in form of coal and oil that was removed and burned into Atmosphere. Cap and Trade and other international carbon laws are not environment fixes, they are wealth distribution schemes. Giving exemptions to China is the biggest environmental hypocrisy of them all, as anyone who has visited China interior will tell you. Smoke from coal heating and cooking has filled the air. I awoke in my 5 star hotel and thought the place was on fire, until I realized it was the pollution. A smart conservative way is called Bio-Char. Many start up companies have already the solution to sequestering carbon and other economic benefits. Bio-Char (charcoal ) is a method of making charcoal from agricultural waste and then using it as fertilizer mix to improve crop yields by 20%. The by products is Bio-Oil and the gas (Methane) which is used it self for making Bio-Char and extra left over for sale or local generation of electricity. As conservative we must not let liberals to paint us as anti-environment. They are the ones to take a real issue like race and environment and subvert it into some insane scheme which doses nothing to protect or correct and gives them continuing issues to make careers out of. Race should be colour blind issue and environment should be based on sound science that first doses no harm. We must show a smarter way. Liberals think humans are not part of environment and would let their children be eaten by mountain lions for the greater good of the environment. Nature adapts to changes. The earth seeks balance. Some species need to be extinct as they are not fit for future. Liberals would like to bring back dinosaurs so they could eat their kids also. Not to say I want mountain lions to go extinct. Conservatives love the environment we are just not into tree sex. No one wants pollution.

Government should always be on the look out on ways to cut jobs from government IMO. The way to help facliliate economic growth (job creation) is by cutting taxes and deregulating industries. You can also increase the level of good jobs by privatizing things and using those funds to fill budget gaps. The free market runs roads a lot better than government. John Stossel had a special on it on 20/20

This is a lot to cover in a single political ad…especially if the writers of the ad feel compelled to drill the main point multiple times and include slow-printing text on the screen (as so many ads are oft want to do).

The part about their own plan was especially weak. Create jobs how, I would ask (if I were the opposition).

I think you two are aiming for the same end result. You, my libertarian friend, are less willing to compromise along the way while Govgirl may see herself as the more pragmatic. Every time the Republicans have “compromised” with the Dems, they paste another “kick me” sign on their own backs. But at least they get invited to Sunday chat shows for it. What more should they expect?

What I haven’t heard from the Republicans is that the Democratic policies have made this mess, and are continuing to make it even worse.

2. gut federal spending on social programs, eliminate most of the abc departments
3. try to extend the tax holiday, if unable to, then switch to a flat tax and set a low rate. It has worked out well for eastern european countries. I think it’s the best statist tax system on the market. I’d prefer to have nothing, but I know that’s not even popular in the anti-tax GOP.

4. privatize roads to pay fund what’s left of the budget.

5. modernize/upgrade military

6. start using strategic foreign. why are we sending billions to Iran in aid? I heard about this. Makes no sense. I’m not a big fan of foreign aid, but if done, it should at least be in national interest

7. “energy independence” which means deregulate the energy industry so we can get some damn power plants built

Our plan was to let market forces work.

What about that disaster of a plan for immigration?

That was a disaster; so-called moderate Republicans worked with Democrats on a plan that the American people didn’t like. Thankfully, President Bush didn’t appoint an immigration czar, or legalize illegal immigration by executive order.

Our plan for the economy was non-existant until this crisis began

Before it was a disaster, there were some warning signs; some tried to put controls and limits on the parts of the economy that were spinning out of control (do the research on Fannie and Freddie;) Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, along with the Democratic congressional leadership, stopped them.
