Obama on stimulus: It’s worked great!

What did we expect him to say, “We misread the economy?” That’s for losers and Vice Presidents … but I repeat myself. In his weekly radio address, Barack Obama insisted that we should stop listening to the critics — and the man he put in charge of the stimulus package — and revel in the fabulous success that is Porkulus:
In a little over one hundred days, this Recovery Act has worked as intended. It has already extended unemployment insurance and health insurance to those who have lost their jobs in this recession. It has delivered $43 billion in tax relief to American working families and businesses. Without the help the Recovery Act has provided to struggling states, its estimated that state deficits would be nearly twice as large as they are now, resulting in tens of thousands of additional layoffs – layoffs that would affect police officers, teachers, and firefighters.
The Recovery Act has allowed small businesses and clean energy companies to hire new workers or scrap their plans for eliminating current jobs. And it’s led to new jobs building roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects, thousands of which are only beginning now. In the months to come, thousands more projects will begin, leading to additional jobs.
When Obama pushed for Porkulus and Congress passed it, do you recall when they argued that it would help states close their deficits? In fact, they argued that the money would go directly to “shovel-ready projects” and create new jobs, not get states off the hook for their own tough decisions on fiscal policy. Had Democrats stood up and said, “What we really need to do is conduct bailouts for all 50 states,” the voters would have abandoned Porkulus in droves. And yet that’s exactly what Obama brags he’s done here.
Obama then offers this rather standard dishonest argument — that those who oppose Porkulus wanted to do nothing at all:
Now, I realize that when we passed this Recovery Act, there were those who felt that doing nothing was somehow an answer. Today, some of those same critics are already judging the effort a failure although they have yet to offer a plausible alternative. Others believed that the recovery plan should have been even larger, and are already calling for a second recovery plan.
But, as I made clear at the time it was passed, the Recovery Act was not designed to work in four months – it was designed to work over two years. We also knew that it would take some time for the money to get out the door, because we are committed to spending it in a way that is effective and transparent. Crucially, this is a plan that will also accelerate greatly throughout the summer and the fall. We must let it work the way it’s supposed to, with the understanding that in any recession, unemployment tends to recover more slowly than other measures of economic activity.
That’s an absolute lie, and a deliberate one. In fact, it’s a series of deliberate lies. First, the Republicans did offer at least two proposals, neither of which Nancy Pelosi would allow to come to the floor. One was a tax-holiday proposal which would have allowed taxpayers a break from funding the federal government. The second and better idea actually came from moderate Democrat Rep. Walt Minnick (ID), who proposed a $170 billion START stimulus that relied solely on tax refunds and government spending in only 2009. Republicans backed Minnick’s START plan, but it never got a vote — because Pelosi and Obama locked Minnick’s idea out in favor of their plan.
Obama’s argument that he had promised a two-year effect is also a lie. Obama and his economic team sold Porkulus as a means to prevent an immediate spike in unemployment. Obama’s economic council argued that a failure to pass Porkulus would drive unemployment to 8.8% in the near term. Passing Porkulus would keep it at 8% or below this year. Romer’s own analysis showed that in three years, unemployment would be within a percentage point regardless of whether Porkulus was adopted or not. It was all about short-term performance, and Obama’s plan failed.
As Joe Biden said, they misread the economy, and gave us a failed strategy. House Minority Whip Eric Cantor agrees on that much with Biden:
There is no doubt that our nation faces many challenges, but the plain truth is that President Obama’s economic decisions have not produced jobs, have not produced prosperity and have not worked.
President Obama has already asked you to borrow trillions, and so far nearly 3 million jobs have been lost this year alone.
Remember the promises? They promised you if you paid for their stimulus, jobs would be created immediately. In fact, they said that unemployment would stay under eight percent.
Yet just months later, they are telling us to brace for unemployment to climb over ten percent. They promised jobs created. Now they scramble to find a way to play games with government numbers by claiming jobs saved.
Simply put, this is now President Obama’s economy and the American people are beginning to question whether his policies are working.
They’re beginning to do more than question it. They’re beginning to agree with Biden that the White House botched it.

I always thought the stimulus bill was the biggest boondoggle ever, and I was heartsick to see it.
I fully understood the need to get some money to states. We had a heart attack. It was clear they were going to need infusion to survive. Otherwise, unemployment benefits would run out, people would be living in tents all over the country, etc.
So I got that.
To wrap that up in a lie? It started the administration off on a false and obviously manipulative course.
Now, he has no credibility. That’s what happens when a president is nothing more than a campaign suit.

Food stamps usage is also up and I hear on the news that that is part of stimulating the economy. I can’t believe some people actually believe that.

-Enslave generations in enormous taxes
-Destroy the free market
-Replace capitalism with socialism.

Obama 7.11.09
Uh, that’s not what he said in April:
President Barack Obama said Monday the $787 billion economic stimulus plan is beginning to take hold and that work is coming in “ahead of schedule and under budget.”
Standing alongside Vice President Joe Biden and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood at the agency, Mr. Obama highlighted the administration’s 2,000th project funded through the $48.1 billion part of the program allocated specifically to transportation infrastructure projects.
“What is most remarkable about this effort … isn’t just the size of our investment or the number of projects we’re investing in. It’s how quickly, efficiently and responsibly those investments have been made,” Mr. Obama said. “Because these projects are getting approved more quickly than we thought … and because these projects are costing less than we thought, we can utter a sentence rarely heard in recent years: This government effort is coming in ahead of schedule and under budget.”
He asserted that the package is “beginning to work,” crediting with spurring a rehiring of workers at clean energy companies, police departments canceling planned layoffs and clinics planning to expand health care. Barack Obama 4.13.09
Words. Just Words.

The problem with that analogy is that, indeed, a Mission had been Accomplished; ie. Saddam’s regime had been smashed in little under 2 months. We had a long slog through an insurgent-ridden occupation to go, but we had toppled Saddam.

Uhhhhhhhhhh……In Indiana we have a lot of road construction. But it didn’t come from Porkulus. Our state is paying for it by itself. Our governor, Mitch Daniels, leased out the Indiana Toll Road to a foreign firm which put close a billion in the state coffers for road construction. Wise investment has also increased the amount because of the interest we are earning on the investment.

The messiah realizes that a large percentage of his supporters are brainwashed to the point that anything he says automatically becomes talking points for millions including the MSM. Standard operating procedure for those who use deception to camouflage the truth is to repeat a lie until it becomes the truth. Parasites like the democrats achieve power when the truth becomes irrelevant. To a democrat the ignorance of the masses is their biggest asset. Without ignorance and hate, the democrats could not exist.

Folks, the only thing keeping these animals from Bolshevism is the fast dwindling hope that they can take total control by simply using applied, universal mendacity.
Consider the case of IG Walpin writ large. They will stop at nothing and I warn you all, before they go, if they go, you will see what behaviorists refer to as an “extinction burst.” Their actions will get more and more radical and good people, constrained by our democratic and civil education will have to decide what we are willing to do to rescue our country from these totalitarians and kleptocracrats.

What is the fricking GOP’s problem? These clowns should draft a straightforward summary of everything they proposed or supported at the time and the specific outcome of each attempt. It should be distributed at a huge press conference and continually cited as Obama, Biden, and Dems repeatedly lie about the stimulus.
I simply don’t understand why the House GOP, the Senate GOP, or the RNC doesn’t smack Obama back in the mouth for these lies. Enlist Palin to hold the press conference to outline the GOP alternatives. That’ll give it attention. Get her to hold press conferences for GOP responses to Cap-and-Tax and healthcare. Give her the talking points and, despite the media’s hatred of her, they’ll still cover it.
Whatever the case, GOP, fricking stand up and defend yourself with a coherent voice.

Driving the economy into the dirt is also how he creates the conditions required for his/Alinsk’s socialist “revolution”.
From Alinsky’s “Rules For Radicals”,
There’s another reason for working inside the system. Dostoevski said that taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution.”

I had to stop there. I guess there may have been a slight deduction in my payroll taxes but I never really noticed one. Now I’m happy as hell that I still have a job, but this stimulus is working so great that my 2% raise for 2009 and 2010 was canceled, our university went on a hiring freeze, every department had to give back money, and 2010 is expected to be even worse. On top of the 15% budget cut we just took, we’re being told to expect more as the year progresses. And my state got stimulus money! Oh, and there’s now a ban on purchasing bottled water. ? Wow, that stimulus is working out just great, thanks, Mr. Flim Flam Man! ps…there used to be at least 4 pages of job ads in my local newspaper. Yesterday? There wasn’t even a half of one page. There are for sale/rent signs all over town. Stores and restaurants are leaving. The weight on Obama’s shoulders must be heavy indeed. How can he bear this ongoing economic burden of failures? I know, how about another stimulus bill? The last one just wasn’t big enough according to Krugman. Krugman’s ideas are being entertained by the House of Representatives. Obama says that he is against another stimulus but we all know now that everything Obama says comes with a expiration date. John Maynard Keynes believed that we all dead in the long run. JMK is dead but it beats the sh!t out me why anybody still thinks his theories of economics can work. Our own history shows that it was a failure. Obama & Krugman both failed history evidently.
