Whom do you trust?

If Barack Obama has reason to worry about sliding poll numbers, the Democrats as a party might shortly enter panic mode. In the space of a few months, they have tossed aside their credibility on most of the issues, according to a Rasmussen poll, including their onetime strong suit, the economy. Now Republicans have overtaken them on eight of ten issues, and threaten to eclipse them on health care and education as well:
Voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on eight out of 10 key electoral issues, including, for the second straight month, the top issue of the economy. They’ve also narrowed the gap on the remaining two issues, the traditionally Democratic strong suits of health care and education.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that voters trust the GOP more on economic issues 46% to 41%, showing little change from the six-point lead the party held last month. This is just the second time in over two years of polling the GOP has held the advantage on economic issues. The parties were close on the issue in May, with the Democrats holding a one-point lead.
Voters not affiliated with either party trust Republicans more to handle the economy by a 46% to 32% margin.
That last point is the big takeaway. For decades, the Democrats have led on the economy, mostly by being on the outside of power in DC. They promise boatloads of benefits without explaining the costs, and demonize Republicans for exercising fiscal responsibility (occasions that had admittedly become rare) through anecdotal stories of people ignored by the government. Now that they hold all the strings, the costs for their expansive and overwhelming agenda can no longer remain hidden, and people — most critically independents — are reeling away from the Democrats.
The data on health care and education show how poorly the Democrats have performed. On both questions, their overall edge falls in the margin of error in the polling; education, Democrats lead by three points (41%-38%) and on health care, four points (46%-42%). On Social Security, the gap goes to 42%-37% GOP, with independents evenly split. In Ethics in Government, the results have gone back to a statistical tie, with the GOP up by a point (34%-33%). A majority of independents are not sure, which gives an indication of how far both parties have fallen on that measure.
But the economy is the bellwether of Democratic woes in 2010. Men trust the GOP more by a 14-point margin (52%-38%) while women provide a statistical dead heat (43%-42% Democrat). That suggests that so-called soccer moms may provide a big backlash to Democrats simply by erasing the gender gap at the polls in the midterms. Among age demographics, only the youngest voters trust Democrats more than Republicans, and only by a 45%-36% margin. Voters under $40K per year trust Democrats more, but the voters in all other income demographics trust Republicans, with a 63%-26% split among those earning $75K-$100K.
The political class question is most revealing. Those who consider themselves apart from the political class trust Republicans more on the economy by a wide margin (58%-28%), while those inside the political class support Democrats … 99%-1%. No, that is not a typo. It’s a demonstration of the slavish devotion to Democrats within the political class, and the breakout indicates that the Democrats have more trouble than even this poll shows on voter trust.

But Democrats never mention that they have all of the morals, ethics and qualifications of people who produce and act in “adult” movies.
Those are the kinds of “adults” we have in charge. Purveyors of porn.
Then again, porn actresses and actors would do a better job than Congressional Democrats and our “president” are doing, so perhaps that’s unfair.

I was watching some Dem Congresscritter on Fox yesterday try to anwer why TWICE as many stimulus dollars were going to Dem Counties…
He kept saying it was a false charge because under Bush, lasts year, those Dem counties got Fed money at the same rate…
Problem is that Bush did not decide where that money went, the DEM controled Congress did…
Funny when a CONGRESSMAN does not understand how our Government functions… or… lies about it.

Look at the bright side, Cindy. If McCain had won, we’d still be looking at taxing health benefits (his idea, not Obama’s), we would have had the bailouts (”my friends, let’s suspend our campaigns and rush back to vote for this thing) and right now we’d be talking about granting amnesty to 12 million plus illegals. I’d venture to say things really would not have turned out much differently than they are–except the Republicans would be taking the blame for the mess we’re in. I’m with OhEssYouCowboys, I don’t have much faith in either party.

When you’re out of power and the MSM is doing your grunt work, every day is a new attack on the GOP Presidency. When you’re in power, all the pro-Obama MSM outlets in the world can’t suppress the damning news that’s slowly seeping through like half-chewed Kobayashi dogs. It’s going to come up eventually, oh it’s coming back up.

The Republicans don’t seem ideologically uniform to me–can’t agree on TARP, same sex marriage, abortion, global warming, proper size of gov’t, or Sarah Palin.
jazz_piano on July 10, 2009 at 1:23 PM
On the contrary. I think the best thing the RNC could do right now is sit back and keep quiet, and let the Dems F things up all by themselves. If the RNC starts to offer alternatives now, the Dems all too easily will shift the blame onto their “critics.” It’s not like it hasn’t happened before – that’s how they got into power in ‘06 in the first place and again in ‘08. It’s also how the Clenis escaped from all of his shenanagins scott-free.
The time to offer alternatives is six months to a year from now, when the mid-terms are in full swing. I think the RNC is playing it smart by keeping quiet for now, and let the Dems have the spotlight all to themselves.

I happen to live in Arizona, have never voted for McCain, and will be actively out working for Chris Simcox in the primaries.
Anyway, I hope to hell the GOP gets its act together and gets a decent candidate next election. I support the Constitutional Party (which is more of a Reagan-type conservatism), but, dammit, it just seems like we’re stuck with this stupid two party system.

2010 will be an “it’s the economy, stupid” election. Every GOP candidate for a Democrat-held House seat needs to campaign on lower taxes and lower spending for a supply-side stimulus, as well as domestic energy development and free-market solutions to health-care and education issues (vouchers).
Republicans lost Congress by overspending, but the Democrats and Obama can’t blame Bush and the Republicans for deficits after they (the Democrats) quadrupled them. GOP House candidates need to campaign on a platform of “Stop Obama’s Reckless and Useless Spending”, and 2010 could be another 1994.
HOPE for a CHANGE, away from Obama.

Exactly. The thing to do now is to remain united, OPPOSE what the democrats try to do, and make sure to get the message out that, because Obama and the democrats own everything, there is nothing they CAN do.
Then, starting next year, come out with a new “Contract with America” that makes it clear that fiscal conservatism is the answer to solving the economy, and that we are the party of freedom not coercion. Pledging to OUTLAW earmarks is an absolute MUST.

Glenn Reynolds linked to a Volokh article on the Mass challenge to Defense of Marriage Act. Sully has been crying how when he travels out of Massachusetts he is “divorced” from his husband(I am not sure if that means he can get some strange on the side, but that is how he described it).
Okay, snark aside, I get why Sullivan wants to overturn and get rid of DOMA, but why challenge DOMA in the courts?
Sullivan of course does not challenge his Democratic Party pals and Barack Obama about this. Why not? They control congress. They can repeal DOMA right now can’t they?
Just another example of Sullivan’s hypocrisy. He would rather play the victim and cry about Palin, Bush and McCain. Attacking McCain, who does Sully think he is? A conservative? Well two of them are out of office and McCain is not exactly doing a lot out side of Arizona (and policy wise is more moderate than conservative).

A friend of mine told me many years ago that the best way to gauge the quality of a school was to attend a PTA meeting. If it was SRO, you could be certain that the teachers and administrators knew the parents were on top of their game. Accordingly, the teachers and administrators were too.

All this says a great deal about the nature of this current day Democrat Party. The perfect storm allows them to control executive, House and Senate and they STILL can’t relate to the desires and wishes of the majority of the electorate. They operate within their protective bubble with each of them patting the other on the back saying, “Aren’t we incredible”.
They banked on a gullible citizenry. Well, maybe theirs is, but the other 80% who don’t follow them are educating themselves. Some of us may be slow to learning even more about what has made this great country work through our history, but we are hungry to learn and know more. We don’t need someone to tell us what the truth is, generally we seek out the facts and learn the truth for ourselves.

It’s about gasoline prices.
Gas has gone up a dollar a gallon since Obama’s inauguration. That’s an increase that almost every American feels, every week. And there is no reason for it, no acknowledgment of it by any government official of any party, and you have to watch CNBC or Bloomberg to even have a clue what is going on with oil prices. This is the one economic indicator that everyone understands and no trillions in government spending or bank bailouts can fix.
