Video: The Waffle House

posted at 3:04 pm on July 9, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The NRCC would like to challenge Rep. Glenn Nye (D-VA) to a debate on cap-and-trade with … Rep. Glenn Nye (D-VA). Nye sent letters to two different constituents this week, taking two different positions on the House bill that narrowly passed almost two weeks ago. Nye attempted to both take credit for its passage and highlight his vote against it:

VO: Anyone want a waffle? Because Glenn Nye is sure serving up some waffles. In a recent letter to a constituent Nye praised the Cap and Trade Bill, but on the very same day he wrote another constituent disapproving of its passage. Which is it Glenn? You’ve only been in Washington for 6 months and you’re already playing the game. Glenn Nye – Waffles, yes. Honesty, no.

I’d call this one a home run.  Also see Jim Geraghty’s take.

Update: The comments section suggested that Nye may have taken his cue from the great Charles Durning in his Academy Award-nominated part from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Looks like he didn’t read either letter – either.

Can’t he just eat his waffle?

Glenn Nye the Science Guy…not so much. Next time I visit the capital I would love to see where politcians get their labotomies.

He’s a known weasel

How ’bout a big plate of ‘take your waffle arse out of office’?

HornetSting on July 9, 2009 at 3:17 PM

Coniving little weasel.

If only the donks spent more time doing the job they were elected to do, and less time thinking up new ways to fool their constituents.

Boy, they must think their constituents have skulls full of mush.

…. ok, I’ll give ‘em that one.

I have an email from him, patting himself on the back for voting against it. Does anyone need to see it? He was pretty proud of himself.

Cindy Munford on July 9, 2009 at 3:24 PM

When his constituents see this, he’ll probably run unapposed because they have finally found the bottom of the barrel.

Cindy Munford on July 9, 2009 at 3:28 PM

I am shocked by the cynicism evident in the responses here. Cap and Trade is obviously such an important piece of legislation that having merely one opinion is insufficient. ;)

I’m shocked, shocked I say that a DEM congressman would waffle.

Jeff from WI on July 9, 2009 at 3:32 PM

This is what conservative talk show hosts meant when they pointed out that the 44 Dems who voted against this were given permission to do so by Queen Pelosi. We know that if she hadn’t known that she had the vote she would never have brought it to the floor and these newly elected Dems would have never dared to oppose her.

Scientific folks. In the laws of non contradiction, two contradicting statements can’t both be true. Democrats soar above natural laws. They have the power to say it is true because they said so.

You have not heard? Bwany Fwank has legislation in the works to repeal the Rules of Logis… after all, they are not laws after all.

They are also working on Thermodynamics, and Conservation of Energy… but those are currently stuck in commitee.

Does anybody out there suppose this guy has even just a smidgen of embarrassment?

Nah.

ladyingray on July 9, 2009 at 3:55 PM

He’s been on the job just six months and he’s already learned from Master Obama-wan Kenobi:

Remember that Obama’s aide filled out the survey form relating to gun control.

Or perhaps he learned from Janet Napolitano.

I’m sure Nye’s aide sent out the email before he approved it.

VibrioCocci on July 9, 2009 at 3:59 PM

one of the Va.Dem blogs i read sort of scolded Nye, but many the comments said “at least he’s better than a Republican”.

so Va. Dems prefer liars to Republicans. well, they’ve got one in the White House.

kelley in virginia on July 9, 2009 at 4:20 PM

Another Democrat thrown out on his worthless, corrupt and incompetent ass in 2010.

This is going to be even more fun than ’94, the way the Bammy show is playing out.

you know, its one thing to lie, but don’t do it on paper (or over the internet where it can be captured). i learned that in 1st grade.

its not that the Dems are stupid, its that they know that their constituents are.

My prior two Congressmen were Jim Moran and Dick Gebhardt. Never voted once for either of those clowns and they kept getting back in.

Yay?

Who is Glenn Nye and why is the NRCC pecking so far down on the totem pole? Nye is a nobody.

The NRCC needs to do their job and attack Obama. Then again – the Ayatollahs always aim for the little guys cuz they are too chicken to go after the head wolf.

Sorry, Honda; I hate to disagree with you (I’m usually with you.)

NRCC is (in this case,) doing their job – from their website:

“Political committee devoted to increasing the number of Republicans in Congress.”

He’s their target – the RNC is the one that should wake up and promote alternatives to the Obama agenda.
