<blockquote>If the Republicans can start firing on all cylinders re: the economic crisis, they will crush the D’s in 2010 and 2012. Forget all the normal SoCon tactics, now is the time to bring the biggest weapon to the fight: fiscal conservativism, which a majority of independents side with. The SoCon firing squad can wait.

Take it for what you will, that’s my opinion.

The Republicans are tainted. We need the creation of a new consevative party to begin now. The current bunch of Republicans are useless. New action oriented people are needed. The John McCain style politicians need to go away.

<blockquote>It won’t be if they spend the next year ACTING like fiscal conservatives. But yes, they will be hypocrites if they vote for more porkulous and rail on Obama’s tax and spending.

And it doesn't count if they claim to be fiscally conservative because they only blew $1.5B when the administration was looking for $2B in spending.

<blockquote>The GOP is its own worst enemy when it comes to getting a message out. They can’t win if the only message is “Obama and the economy suck” but they are in a quandry over a fiscal conservatism message when so many incumbents spent the last eight years spending like drunken Democrats. It’s more than a little hypocritical for them to come to the table now as “fiscal conservatives.”</blockquote>

The GOP is its own worst enemy when it comes to getting a message out. They can't win if the only message is "Obama and the economy suck" but they are in a quandry over a fiscal conservatism message when so many incumbents spent the last eight years spending like drunken Democrats. It's more than a little hypocritical for them to come to the table now as "fiscal conservatives."

And, by the way, the SoCons are not going away and will not be dismissed (McCain learned that the hard way). Ignore their issues as part of the GOP agenda at your risk. The spending has to be brought under control but there is plenty that the filthy liar has done to offend SoCons and SoCons mobilize and vote. Fiscal conservatives- not so much as a bloc.

Someone upthred said that Barry O didn't get the votes, ACORN invented them for him. If only it were so - he did get the votes, thanks largely to a compliant media saturated with fellow traveleres with a vested economic interest in "the narrative". You gotta remember than not all peopl have the time or inclination to actually seek out the facts, and when all the news channels seem to be in lockstep, the norming effect is powerful.

That being said, others have made disparaging remarks towards McCain. I think that he seriously had a shot, and while being less SoCon than most here, he would have done far better for this country than That One. Remember, it was McCain and basically McCain alone who picked Palin, whom his advisers then began tearing down almost immediately. He picked the right VP candidate, but made the mistake of listening to his light Colonels when he should've been listening to his Sergeants.
