The local TV news here last night had a story on more people running marathons; these people were unemployed so now they have time to run marathons–increasing the competition in marathons. It was touted as a positive side to unemployment. Maybe that story will get picked up by CNN.

Btw, a few days ago, I got a CNN Breaking News email about Michael Jackson’s golden coffin’s being in the stadium. Is this breaking news? Then I got another Breaking News email about his daughter saying he was the best father. Is this breaking news?

The AP headlines have been spinning this the past several months.

My other favorite is the headline spin on the housing stats. They say house sales have started to rise on a month to month basis…NO SH*T? Guess what Einstein? Houses sell overwhelmingly during spring/summer months for various reasons (weather, schools, etc). But when you look at the stats vs. the previous year the decline is on the order of 17%…yet all the headlines say “housing sales are up!” It’s amazing.

Sooner (hopefully) or later the American people will realize the corruption at both MSNBC and CNN. It’s been sickening for a long time and the chickens will eventually come home to roost.

Shouldn’t the headline be “Unemployment continues to worsen”? It would have been in the Bush or Reagan administrations.

Would that they be so lucky. The headline would be “Worst unemployment since the Depression (note- that would be using the worst case “discouraged worker” rubric) – Bush/Reagan stimilus still not showing signs of working as job losses increase from last month – Economists grow worried over Bush economic policies”.

If the state propaganda mills didnt prop him up he would have negative popularity.

CNN isn’t fooling anyone. But perhaps we need a communication program to inform them. An avalanche of calls and emails may wake them up. Then again, maybe not. Their ratings are sliding down the chute right behind Air America and the NYSlimes.

People once making say 60K a year managed to find jobs making 40K a year.

Taking more spending and investing power out of individual’s hands is ultimately what hurts all of us. Just having ‘a job’ is not good enough for the economy (nor of course for the individual that could do better if only the opportunity exists).

The problem that nobody in Government will say is that we are headed into another deeper recession. Come this fall, the market is going to drop much further and could possibly “crash”. A prominent economist from Morgan Stanley yesterday reaffirmed my beliefs. Most politicians and banking heads want to try and sugar coat and be positive, but they are ignoring some very troubling signs in the market. These employment numbers are atrocious, and it’s going to get worse. Consumer confidence is going to drop, and after some rise in the market it’s going to “correct” and things will get really ugly. Sorry.
