“There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club.”

Update: The man who made this statement, Valley Swim Club president John Duesler, has the same name as the man who ran the O-Positive Obama campaign blood drive in Philly before Barack Obama’s inauguration. That information comes from — of all places — Democratic Underground. It may or may not be the same John Duesler, but there’s only one person by that name listed in the phone book in the Philly area.

So, the gist I get is that someone at the pool didn’t like the idea of a lot of kids being there. Does that mean they wanted it to be a family environment rather than a daycare environment? Not really specified in the story.

for now though, i lose so much faith in people when i see sh*t like this…that sh*t like this goes on in July 2009. In freaking Pennsylvania.

It’s almost quaint that these folks who run the club did not understand that anti-racism is now the reigning ideology of the Western world. They’re like one of those Japanese soldiers who occasionally turn up in a rice paddy thirty years after the bombing of Nagasaki, insiting the war can still be won.

Either way, it’s stupid, but was it really a matter of race, or did they just not want so many kids there all at once?

If it was a racial issue, whoa, Mr. Peabody, set the wayback machine to return us to our time, please.

Daggett on July 8, 2009 at 10:16 PM

I’ve gone to The Valley Swim Club Philadelphia home page. It’s a family site with children. It’s very, very white. I takes it that nobody informed them that Creative Steps Day Camp wasn’t.

These children need a place to go swimming. Some organization in the Philadelphia area needs to step up to the plate. Now.

Loxodonta on July 8, 2009 at 10:16 PM

“There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club.”

Well at least the club quickly diffused the situation with this statement.

crr6 on July 8, 2009 at 10:16 PM

I’ve lived all over this country and the thing that strikes me most about the NE is that the inhabitants are the most vocal about racial equality and are least likely to practice it. You would not believe some of the things I’ve seen here. Of course, we can’t prove a racism claim based solely on this clip, but I would not be surprised if it were so.

Think it kind of fits the theme, and would have been a good co-QOTD, noted at the Corner today, from our brilliant liberal Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, explaining her views of Roe v Wade (in an interview relating to Sotomayor being so dang peach-keen):

Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of.

Let’s leave race aside for just a second. You are a member of this club and you see literally a bus load of inner city kids show up at the facility you joined. That camp only paid $1900 for all those kids to swim. I have to wonder what the members paid for use of the same pool?

IMO, this isn’t a matter of racism as much as it is a matter of poor management. Everyone assumes the problem is the skin color but I suspect it is the fact that the campers are clearly “urban” youth.

You’re lucky that most Americans, including conservatives, are complete and total hopeless dupes. In any other era no people would stand for being effectively replaced by a foreign population, and indoctrinated into thinking they deserved it.

Latin America is a sub-standard hell-hole and the Latinisation of the United of America will turn that counry into a hell-hole also. What a pity that the civilisational confidence of Americans is so low that they can be suckered en masse by con men.

tlynch001 on July 8, 2009 at 10:33 PM

true story. Local pool here in S. Fla. Young mom – fully paid member – brought here very young kids to the community pool. She had inner tubes and water wings for them which I personally think is lazy parenting but better than drowning if you can’t teach your kids to swim but that’s beside the point. Older pool guests pointed to the “No flotation devices” on the sign and said she had to leave. It was a big pool. In one section of the pool older patrons were using flotation devices for an aerobics class. She pointed that out and was told that the rule was really designed to keep kids away. Deal with it. She stayed and told them to deal with it.

My point is – most people are squids. They should have stayed. The kids would have eventually gotten back in and played. Their parents suck at life.

But is that racism or bad management. The way you’ve framed this thread you clearly think racism was involved. Which is ironic because MN is such a hotbed of diversity that the numbers of blacks in the state change when Prince is on tour (got that from How I Met your Mother).

I think it was nothing more than bad decisions by management. $1900 for all those “urban” campers showing up compared to what a membership costs??? I understand getting extra revenue by these contracts but that has to be balanced with the concerns of those who are full-fledged members. Management should have been clearer to all the use of the facility by campers (race is irrelevant).

The Christian Science Monitor’s statistics show that, by current trends, in 2050 133 milion American citizens will be Hispanic. At the very least the US will become a bi-lingual nation with Mexican-Spanish given as much prominence as American-English. Besides the census does not take into account further illegal immigration by Mexican interlopers. If they’re not discouraged from coming, they will not stop coming. Why would they?

If it is the same person, it means Duesler feels as if he assuaged his white, liberal guilt last year by heavily campaigning for and then voting to help elect Barack Obama. That therefore gives him the right to be segregationist within his own lifestyle (similar to all the liberal Democratic politicians — including the president — in the pocket of the teacher’s union in Washington who refuse to send their kids to D.C. public schools, feeling that they’ve done their part to help “the cause” by merely supporting the unions).

you know, im beginning to think the coming latino domination of the western hemisphere is a direct karmic result of the fact that thinking like this continues to this day. i hope, when we finally become the majority in this country, that i have enough time to rub it in all the faces of those who still harbor these sorts of prejudices.

for now though, i lose so much faith in people when i see sh*t like this…that sh*t like this goes on in July 2009. In freaking Pennsylvania.
