“There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club.”
Update: The man who made this statement, Valley Swim Club president John Duesler, has the same name as the man who ran the O-Positive Obama campaign blood drive in Philly before Barack Obama’s inauguration. That information comes from — of all places — Democratic Underground. It may or may not be the same John Duesler, but there’s only one person by that name listed in the phone book in the Philly area.

This is one reason places like Hot Air are so important.
Although, it might be nice to have a special room where people could rant, rave and kick things.
BTW – I just discovered today that I’m a FINO.
Loxodonta on July 9, 2009 at 2:39 AM
I know RINO, CINO… what is FINO?
Ummm..I like many people here but with my limited time I some how come onto threads that I don’t really feel to good. So I just take it for what it is. Keep the temper in check.

I took a Feminism Test:
http://helloquizzy.okcupid.com/tests/the-feminism-test
I scored so low, it turns out I’m a Feminist in Name Only.
But if you control your temper, doesn’t that mean you’re an adult or something? Boring!

lol- yes I guess I am boring for a blog. I just can’t stoop to a level that is not me..although many give me the temptation. Sorry..not helping Ed or allah with hits.
btw I got what you were saying. I try to be mature :) I fall sometimes.
At the end of the day..I can say anything here and it will not change anything for the most part. I told bb this and he got it.
Well, I must take the fem quiz. I guess I might fail. Oh well :)

I scored 17% Gender-Abolitionist, 0% Sexually Liberal, and 0 % Socialist.
So, I’m not a complete failure. I can’t quite figure the 17%, though. To me, people are people, except for women and children. They’re fundamentally different. I prefer it when they’re fun. But women can be so strange, sometimes I wonder if their mental. Of course, I’m joking.

So yes, you guys see women as strange and we see ya’ll the same in some ways. I suppose there is a reason for that huh?

I used to lifeguard at the pool in Letchworth State Park in western New York. Once a summer they would bus out a bunch of city kids from Rochester (mixed races but mostly black). It was like Caddy Day at the Country Club in Caddyshack.
We had complaints from some of the campers. Nothing racist in nature just complaining about the crazy city kids running around families that just wanted a nice quiet vacation.

The Club is in the lily white suburb of Huntingdon Valley, PA.
The swim club signed a contract. And he didn’t say “you have to leave because there are to many kids which violates the contract.” Your accusation of cheating comes from racism buried deep in your soul.
Every private swim club I’ve been to had “rowdy and screaming kids”. Try again.

I documented it here…

I know I’m supposed to disapprove of this, but I don’t, and here’s why:
When my daughter and her friends are playing in our inflatable pool or trampoline they have a good time. When the black kids from down the street show up they go apeshit and make so much noise and commotion my daughter usually ends up coming back in the house and I have to ask them all to leave. Not because they are black, but because they are rude.
None of the white kids in the neighborhood are a problem, just the black ones. I’m not painting with a broad brush either, I’m talking about 6 or 8 kids from 3 or 4 different families and they all share the same bad behavior.
In my opinion, most black folks don’t bother to teach their kids good manners.
Does that mean that was the case at this pool on that day? I can’t say for certain, but my personal experience would lead me to say yes. Does that make me a racist or a realist?
Woody on July 9, 2009 at 6:31 AM
Those black kids should have done their own version of the basketball game scene in “American History X”. How cool would that have been:)
DethMetalCookieMonst on July 9, 2009 at 6:36 AM
How dare you tell us this story.I’m appalled, appalled I say that one would mention that a certain group of kids would have a behavior problem, just because they do.
Don’t you know we are to accept that groups behavior, no matter how bad, because they might be in a lower socio-economic level and poverty is an excuse for bad behavior and criminal activity. In addition, you’re not allowing them to express themselves based on their cultural and ethnic roots. How dare you expect all kids to behave the same. I’m not going to even get in to why you should accept their behavior based on the fact that you may be white and therefor are guilty of slavery, which is the reason we now have a black President.
I’ll look past your story but in the future please learn to be politically correct.

Enough time? Will you be too busy running everything and swimming in latino-only pools to rub it in my face? If you want a majority latino country, why not go to one of the many where that’s the case. I assume it’s a paradise of virtue and ethics and morality. Aren’t people just dying to move to those countries? Also, you can get practice rubbing things into other people’s faces.

Thanks for the update! I so glad for the kids, I hope this act of kindness helps ease their disappointment in the previous situation.

I find it fascinating that a story of some kids kicked out of a private swimming pool is seemingly reported everywhere …
… while THIS story – people attacked in front of their own homes by a mob who physically assault them and put one of them in critical care, all for explicitly racial purposes … well THIS story I only hear from a random link in a comment.
How strange. Wonder why.
Professor Blather on July 9, 2009 at 8:46 AM
It might be developing because the first story I read about it, no one was seriously injured. The person in the hospital is new information for me.

We have a winner. How insightful, rational, and mature. How strange that I found this here.
Of course, if everybody took your approach and waited until all the facts were available before passing breathless excited judgment, the Internet would be an awful quiet place, now wouldn’t it?
By the time the full story is known, we’ll be on to the next outrage and this will be forgotten. Now quit trying to ruin the fun.
Professor Blather on July 9, 2009 at 8:50 AM
I was disgusted to hear about this story yesterday. What kind of lesson were these camp kids just taught? One that will stay with them forever, I’m afraid.

Ever hear of the term “comfort zone”? I have one, which has changed over the years – to suit my aging. I like it, and I’m staying in it. Labels are just that, and only serve to deny freedom of choice.
OldEnglish on July 9, 2009 at 8:58 AM
Forget that crossed out word up there … if you’re relaxing at your PRIVATE pool and 50 kids of any flavor suddenly descend upon you … you ain’t gonna be happy.
My completely unfounded theory: whoever up there in the thread suggested it was all a management problem will turn out to be right. Somebody screwed up and didn’t realize just how many overly enthusiastic rugrats would show up at a private establishment on a quiet sunny afternoon.
The question, of course, is would the reaction have been the same if the kids were white? Probably not precisely the same … but I’ll bet it’d have been similar.
We have a community pool. A private pool. And last week, some jacka$$ decided to invite 30 of his closest friends (which violates HOA regs, but I digress). 20 of them were shrieking children. Our quiet little afternoon came to an equally shrieking halt. In fact, we got up and left. The place had gone from peaceful to quasi-asylum in about 10 seconds.
And these kids were all lily-white.
(shrug)

Hmmmm “2 days later”, Sounds like Dr.John[Obama supporter] and Miss Wright may have colluded, and concocted the “complexion story” to embarass the Swim Club board. This tactic is a common MO of race-card players with an agenda. I’ve seen the senario played out in public schools against dedicated teachers who actually wanted their students to learn – often this type of student accountability by teachers and administrators does not sit well with the parents of underachievers.

I live in Philly and they took poor black and Hispanic children into a middle-class to upper-class white neighborhood 25 minutes away from the camp. 65 out of control kids from the ghetto at a private pool club. If I was a member I probably be wondering why I just don’t go to the section 8 public pool in Philly, oh yea the city is broke and decided to close all the public pools. All in all the board made a bad decision accepting a camp. The fact that the kids were from the ghetto is why the media made a story out of it.

Jeff from WI on July 9, 2009 at 11:30 AM
They have really cracked down on the hydrant usage in philly, when I was a kid we always had them open. Now they have special wrenches and you have to have a sprinkler head for the hydrant. People were complaining about the kids, water pressure, and some people were getting water in the basement.

Jeff from WI on July 9, 2009 at 1:03 PM
I feel bad for those kids. They seem to have not been concerned about going to a pool with lots of white folks around.
On the other hand, the perception of Blacks being dangerous is perpetrated with the reality of seeing minorities constantly in the news for a number of crimes far out of proportion to the 12% or so of their racial slice of the U.S. population.
It is not in the interest, though, of the Black racists and their self-appointed leaders to get on members of their own race about their often unsavory behaviors. Bill Cosby at least tried and was persecuted for it.
Tons of white people out there are anti-social and commit many, many crimes as well, but I don’t hear other white people sticking up for them because of their race.

You-Eh-Vee on July 9, 2009 at 5:28 PM
A lot of people are assuming those kids were misbehaving, but I’ve worked with kids from the “ghetto” and we took them to swimming pools regularly. Granted this was with a YMCA so we had mandatory training but even kids from homes with the worst parents (and many of those were White) I kept my kids in check. Period. Never had an indecent, never had a problem.
I ran the program at the Brooklyn Y (12 towns a real ghetto) and I took those kids to the Zoo, park etc. I made sure my staff kept them in check. The only problem we had was with staff.
You’re assumption that these kids were out of control, although there is no evidence that that was the case, is racist. I’m (half) Black and grew up in a ghetto, and I nave never been arrested, started a fight and I have a Masters and my own business. What about you guys?
I can even swim.
So how about on a story illustrating Progressive racism we focus on the racism of progressives? Let’s not use it as a way to test the waters to see how many of you pee yourselves when you see some Black people.
Rob Taylor on July 9, 2009 at 7:01 PM
I promise you I, for one, am not. However I do refuse to ignore the elephant in the room.
I am highly skeptical that the club members just ran away at the sight of black skin, and if the kids were acting up and disturbing the peace and relaxation of the club as I suspect their removal was apprpriate. Swimming at this club was a privilege, not a right.
Some people want to claim their ejection is racism, but that would imply that the color of their skin gives these kids license to trample the rights of any white person around them at anytime and we just have to grin and bear it. Around here we refer to that as “bullshit”.
I guess until we hear from some of the club members who were there and complained we will never see what’s on the other side of the coin, but I’m betting it’s not “Oh God, black people! Ewww! Run away!”
Woody on July 9, 2009 at 9:10 PM
Hey, what do you know? I was right!
http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Swim-Club-Members-Nothing-to-Do-With-Race.html
Not racist at all, but the kids used the charge of racism in order to try and get their way. Wonder where they learned that?
