Videos: Dueling Obamanations

Earlier today, I got this video from HA reader Frank P, who promised that it would get comments galore and cheers from the Hot Air crowd. Ed Montana’s “Obamanation” apparently hit YouTube a couple of weeks ago, but hasn’t gotten much attention. It’s pretty catchy, even if the meter struggles in a couple of the verses. The chorus will stick with you, especially if (like me) you like country music:
How the heck did we miss this before the election? I’d love to hear what Ms. Soular has to say about life in the Obama Era now. I’d like to hear her sing about it even more.
Which Obamanation do you like best?

This one is chilling, intense and it rocks.

Ow, my ears — Ash is an abomination singing Obamanation.
Daggett on July 7, 2009 at 6:56 PM
one obsession to the next, bro
she’s got a good voice
she should get a studio recording for this thing
oh wow
just got to the electric guitar shredding part
wow
blatantblue on July 7, 2009 at 6:57 PM
I prefer the country song and I’m not a big country listener. Not that the other song isn’t good too.
aengus on July 7, 2009 at 6:58 PM
she probably could do better in a recording where she didn’t have to play at the same time
blatantblue on July 7, 2009 at 6:58 PM
The second was certainly less predictable and thus more interesting, though I have to admit my vote was based almost entirely on sex appeal, which wasn’t a very hard contest.
Blacklake on July 7, 2009 at 6:59 PM
What about girls in real life dude? Don’t waste your life on the internets.

I liked them both. They were good in different ways. Ms. Soular is wicked edgy.

holy moly, what a cool song and a great voice!
that hottie ROCKS!
i think i’m in love…

one obsession to the next, bro
Agreed!!!!
Too bad she’s never going anywhere with that kind of attitude. The one probably already had some ACORN thugs stomp on all her toys.
BigWyo on July 7, 2009 at 7:06 PM
Number two is better because it has a guitar solo.
Mark1971 on July 7, 2009 at 7:06 PM
Hannity having a stroke wishing he could add them to the America tour.
portlandon on July 7, 2009 at 7:06 PM
Yeah. Her demo neighbors probably call the cops for noise pollution, and they confiscated her guitar and gave it to Joe Biden to play with.
portlandon on July 7, 2009 at 7:08 PM
You go, girl!
Indeed–keep the change.
Like that ‘letric axe–and I’m a geezer.

You’re gay?
davidk on July 7, 2009 at 7:10 PM
While the country tune is clever and very formulaic, it is “milk toast”.
Ash on the other hand, is unquestionably more passionate, angst-filled, and artistic… plus I’d rather listen to a woman’s voice if the truth be known!
Go Ash! You got my vote, go get it girl!

GOP better buy up some air time to air this young girl…. on every major news network. And, if.. IF they get stopped or refused air time? Expose.
/she’s a bit of a whiner so maybe 60 seconds max on her song.
Key West Reader on July 7, 2009 at 7:15 PM
My kid is a big Beatles fan; just an early teen. He wrote a song that he could do on acoustic and he was going to do it at a few tea party rallies… But, as a typical teenaged male (much like obama), he sorta ducked out due to ‘public opinion’.
I’mma make him do it. Momma’s can do that sort of thing.
Key West Reader on July 7, 2009 at 7:17 PM
yea i thought that when i first saw it’s length on the video
3:30 is a good song length — maybe 4:20 max
she could definitely cut some parts
drop a chorus maybe
shorten the bridge
but its still good
don’t /snark
its entirely accurate!
blatantblue on July 7, 2009 at 7:20 PM
i played my first mini show thing at his age
once he sees it doesn’t matter what ANYONE thinks, it’ll fall into place
people are quite forgiving towards people playing instruments in public
blatantblue on July 7, 2009 at 7:22 PM
I wish I could somehow send both of these videos to my useful idiot ex-husband….
…he and his other U.I. friends have a YouTube video screeching about how “Change is gonna come, oh yeah, baby, we’re done with Bush” crapola.
Operative word: ex-husband.
tru2tx on July 7, 2009 at 7:22 PM
i mean, dont get me wrong, im not saying he’s bad
but a lot of kids playing stuff think everyone is uber critical and will boo them
blatantblue on July 7, 2009 at 7:22 PM
“tool” works, as well
blatantblue on July 7, 2009 at 7:24 PM
Good stuff, thanks.

That Ash Soular has some nice guitar playing on her myspace as well.
aikidoka on July 7, 2009 at 7:26 PM
Nice. And she’s only 20?

singlemalt_18 on July 7, 2009 at 7:28 PM
Ha! some of comments to her Obamanation video at myspace are pretty rude but this one is just teh stoopid!
bwhaaaaa!
aikidoka on July 7, 2009 at 7:31 PM
Note: Hot girl beats old guy every. freaking. time.
Pablo on July 7, 2009 at 7:32 PM
Until just a few moments ago I did not realize that it was possible for a girl who sings folky and plays the guitar to be against government spending and ever higher taxes.
myrenovations on July 7, 2009 at 7:35 PM
lmao!…The girl’s got a lot of talent for sure. Waay better vocals than Alanis Morisette.
RepubChica on July 7, 2009 at 7:38 PM
Dear God, I’m so in love.
No seriously, I get weak in the knees for women who can rock!
As for her Obamanation song, I think she nailed it. Awesome work!
Yakko77 on July 7, 2009 at 7:38 PM
I liked the country style one much better, but you gotta get misty eyed when you see some young lady like that speak to you conservatively.

My gf lives 15 min from the Cadillac Ranch (the cars stuck in the ground). If you’re driving on I 40 across Tx, it’s a must see…if for nothing other than the weirdness factor…
bikermailman on July 7, 2009 at 7:46 PM
While listening to these tunes I was reading where Al Franken got off to a running start in spending our money…
Maybe we should write the good senator with iPod suggested titles ;)
Limerick on July 7, 2009 at 7:46 PM
Oh, and the gf looks similar to Soular, but with short hair. And closer to my age. And a killer figure… :D
bikermailman on July 7, 2009 at 7:49 PM
#1 is ok.
#2 was good until she pulled out the Les Paul, then it got kinda awesome.
mad saint jack on July 7, 2009 at 7:50 PM
My Lord that girl can play a guitar.
Terrye on July 7, 2009 at 7:50 PM
Hot damn. Now I have to check out Ash Soular and see what else she has. Very nice.
Stickeehands on July 7, 2009 at 7:52 PM
This one is better than both of them (the ghost of Tennessee Ernie Ford sings about Obama):

Ash (2nd video) even has a tribute video with Spinal Tap music.
Playing Eric Johnson, and tributes with Spinal Tap music.
If I was not 15+ years older then her I would so hit that.
F15Mech on July 7, 2009 at 8:03 PM
Oh, gross. Even as a lonely, horny single dad that girl makes me want to puke. She’s on par with Meghan McCain — which I suppose explains why she’s here on HA.
Daggett on July 7, 2009 at 8:06 PM
They both suck. It’s embarassing. It’s like Hannity’s Concert Series. Bunch of washed up B talent.
AYNBLAND on July 7, 2009 at 8:08 PM
When my friends and I are done in the studio
I’m asking her to come “record” with me
blatantblue on July 7, 2009 at 8:12 PM
Both good, but the girl has a great surprise factor.
LASue on July 7, 2009 at 8:18 PM
From her youtube “more info” link
Granted she needs some studio work but I wish every young voter thought the same way before the went to the polls.
F15Mech on July 7, 2009 at 8:18 PM
the = they
F15Mech on July 7, 2009 at 8:19 PM
Single??? Get right outta town!!!
I think you can sleep easy tonight secure in the knowledge that something like that wouldn’t piss on the best part of you.
Maybe you could look this up:
You seem to be on the same page.
BigWyo on July 7, 2009 at 8:26 PM
Ash is much better. Here’s why: The first video is just classic redneck talking points. That gets little traction outside of redneckville. But the young, edgy woman singing a protest song about a democratic president, now that could play in the cities, on the coasts, and get onto the ipods of all the young people, the exact demographic we need to influence to take back the country.

Poor BB!
txag92 on July 7, 2009 at 8:30 PM
She sounds like too many other female “vocalists” I’ve heard. She brings nothing new to the table in terms of tone. As for songwriting, I give her a “B.” I’d like to hear what she could do when not writing such a blatant protest song.

CurtZHP on July 7, 2009 at 8:41 PM
I’m going to have to go with Ash Soular on this one. I’m genuinely impressed. About half way through I was about to comment that it was very good but, (because I assumed it was going to continue apace through the second half), repetitive. Just as I scrolled down to comment, the guitar solo hit.
Nice work, Ash. She’d have 5 stars for sure if not for her Obama apostasy.
The other one was good too, though, but I’m not a country fan.
FloatingRock on July 7, 2009 at 8:42 PM
I’m glad you commented on that. I forwarded and skipped that part. After seeing that, I would have voted for #2.
That was the most awesome thing I’ve seen in a while. She ripped that lead like there’s no tomorrow.
Both songs were very catchy and had nice choruses.
#2 was a bit too serious. She should do it more tongue and cheek with a few winks and maybe have Zo and Crowder show up in the second chorus to do backups.
nottakingsides on July 7, 2009 at 8:48 PM
Ok Ash Soular just rocked! My son had to come see what his ‘old’ Mom was listening to! Rewritten a little, it would be an awesome rallying wake-up song. Actually, both of them would be, but I just loved the guitar scene. heh

Heh. Who knew that oatmeal commercial guy could sing?

Amazing how right on the money her song is and it was written before he took power.

jgapinoy on July 7, 2009 at 9:09 PM
Ash rocks!
I couldn’t make it through the country song, as I’m still married, don’t drive a pickup truck, and have never cried in my beer! Oh, and I hate country.

Sadly, at the end of the lady’s song, I had one over-riding thought:

Let’s be very honest about what these videos are about.
This is not about bashing Democrats. It’s not about taxes. They have no idea what the Boston Tea party was about.
They don’t know their history at all.
It’s about hating a black man in the White House …
This is racism straight up and is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks with musical instruments and video cameras and stuff. There is no way around that.
HondaV65 on July 7, 2009 at 9:56 PM
WOW. I guess I’m caught off guard (*snicker, snicker*) that you would “call out” (*snicker, snicker*) these crazy racists for expressing their opinions… I mean, WHO would EVER speak out against the President because of the direction he is taking the country? Oh… that’s right… Now I remember….it’s only acceptable if you’re a LIBERAL, right? (*snicker, snicker*).
Well comrade, if things keep going so well as they have the last 16 months or so, you may very well have your wish and be able to suppress and/or silence all opposing view points to your own. I wonder though, will you be one of the haves, or the have nots? That could be an important detail to you, you know…..
