By the way, the small bunch I was referring to were worshipers which, as I noted, flock to many candidates. It just so happens that most of those candidates have faded out of the spotlight for the moment. I was not referring to actual supporters, nor speaking as if their numbers were diminutive.

A good start would be not elastically reacting to the inevitable left-wing seething hatred with blind devotion. However, that seems to be difficult.

Some people seem bound and determined to create a conservative Obama. If that’s what you want, go ahead. I don’t want a cult figure.

And now, Palin is attracting the same small bunch. It’s not their fault. We’ve been dealt some serious blows in 06 and 08, and some people are turning support into faith. The problem is that any resultant loss will just embitter conservatives more.

So by using a red herring, you think you’ve managed to preclude any more use of the word ‘one.’ Not so clever. Care to argue the point on the merits, namely by listing all the current candidates who are truly conservative? Thanks.

Anyone who discusses “true conservatism” on this site will invariably run into 100 other posters with their own definitions of “true conservatism”. I don’t know if you were around during 2007 and 2008, but with the multitude of candidates running, the phrase “true conservative” almost became a meme. McCain, Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee, Thompson, Brownback, Hunter, Tancredo, Paul, Keyes…all fell once a point of contention was brought to light. People who didn’t even run were the center of such quarrels, like Pawlenty, Ryan, Flake, DeMint, McCotter, Perry, and so on. Remember how many people thought Sanford was the future of conservatism? Glenn Beck has his own acolytes, as well.

Regardless of what “true conservatism” is, there are two certainties in this day and age. The first is that you won’t get 50% of conservatives to agree on which is the “truest”, and the second is that if one comes close, people will invest so much hope that they’ll attack anyone who points out their flaws. The latter happened with almost ever major candidate last election. Doubting Giuliani at RedState got you banned. Heaven help you if you spoke ill of Huck in front of evangelicals. And now, Palin is attracting the same small bunch. It’s not their fault. We’ve been dealt some serious blows in 06 and 08, and some people are turning support into faith. Let’s review; I’ll even try to keep it, how shall we say, simple for you.

1. Not from a wealthy background
2. Not of a protected, or disadvantaged class or group – no affirmative action for her, as for many people.
3. She worked her way through college.
4. Her records and transcripts are all public record – not mysteriously sealed.
5. While in college (ages 18-22?) she changed goals and directions. Think this has ever happened before?

See, what she did was, lived a normal life.

Try this bozo…local terms are often used to explain similar departments.
Now add to this…Obama has 46 attorneys on staff, President Bush had 9.
If 46 isn’t a “department” what is it? A gaggle, clutch, pod???

Palin’s staff released the numbers to back up her contention the onslaught of “frivolous” ethics complaints have cost the state millions of dollars and thousands staff hours.

A lame duck is someone who’s remaining time in office is made ineffective by virtue of the possibility or expectation of change in that office. Endless ethics complaints have served to create that expectation of change by preventing her from doing her agenda and also by putting a cloud of suspicion over her.

Is she running for President? Right now, I don’t care. Do I think that she can continue her agenda for Alaska and for the USA at large far better without the “ball and chain” of the title of governor? I do care, and she’s convinced me that she can.

With that in mind, I think it becomes pretty obvious that Sara Palin is an extremely important asset for the right, for the simple reason that the left fears and hates her out of all proportion to her real ability to affect them. It is that fear and hate that drives them to expend such large amounts of energy, money and other resources on trying to minimize her.
Politics is essentially a matter of name or brand recognition. The person who gains name recognition the most without making major blunders that soil their name, wins. Sara Palin came onto the national scene last year because John McCain needed someone who was young, well spoken and with a track record of solid conservative policies. He needed that to offset his own lack of all those things. Palin had those things, but she also had something else. She lived a life that included the exact reverse of several of the left’s pet agenda items. And so they went after her for the simple reason that they had to make her look bad, because they didn’t want a person that did so many things outside their agenda to appear successful. That went far beyond the need to win that particular election. Palin became an icon for he left more than for the right, but one they were driven to try to destroy.

In the process they ensured that Palin’s name got known by millions of people who would have never noticed her. That name has been repeated millions of times, in thousands of venues, and in tens of millions of conversations, where it would not have been if the left had not saw her as a threat to their agenda. In essence, the left created the nationally important Sara Palin.
