What I find troubling is all the Republicans out there who fundamentally believe that the stimulus plan could work 'if only' this and that.

I'm simply amazed. But, when anyone challenged this pile of crap (the few that did anyway) the pundits and MSM immediately started with the "Party of NO" garbage.

And the average American citizen just knows that the government has to do something to fix the economy.

I'm not an economist, but I know one thing-if you subsidize people and systems they are in shock and helpless when that money runs out. It's just like all these 'adults' out there who can only subsist on the money their parents give to them. I guess there's a lot more of those out there than I thought judging by the pervasive handout mentality of the populace in this country.

The solution is simple-the government needs to quit 'managing' the private sector and let them profit or fail on their own merits. Those who screw up will be replaced by those who are better in that particular business.

And the freaking majority of us Hot Air "mouthbreathers" called it also. No way it was going to work. No way they wanted it to work.

Strategy=

Use government to redistribute wealth.

Get a majority of Americans on the receiving end.

Run big corporations like big government.

Destroy the private sector in the process and make even more Americans dependent on Bog Government...

Oh yeah, blame Bush.

You sucker stupid donks and whoever else that voted for these clowns. You freaking destroyed our country.

So I was shopping for fireworks on July 4th when I come across a 20 shot product called “Bushinator”. It has a picture of George W. Bush on it followed by the quote, “The $463 Billion dollar deficit man.”

To be "seriously" considered as a candidate for the POTUS, please provide a written statement addressing the following issues:

1. Describe in detail your understanding of free market economics, capitalism, and how you're direct work experience relates to this understanding. Give specific examples of business and financial leadership roles you have held in the private sector, and the challenges you've overcome.

2. Explain at a high level, the consequences of government competing for available resources with private enterprise as it pertains to: interest rates, allocation of resources (tangible and intangible), asset prices, and inflation. Support your position on how EOE enhances price discovery in the labor markets and labor market efficiencies. Relate this to your experience in the private sector and your expertise in fostering capitalism. Be specific.

3. How many states have an income tax? (hint: less than 57). How many of the 57 states will be bankrupt by the year 2012 (hint: less than 57). Which state we're you born in, and how did grandma get there?

Articulate your positions clearly. Do not stutter with "ers" and "uhs", and refrain from using cliches such as "Let me be clear...".

Good luck.

(hey DrSteve - they let me in the hen house! It's fun in here!)

Here's an idea, Congress, Executive Branch, state government officials don't get paid until the economy recovers and unemployment drops below 4%. We'd save money and finally get rid of those who are always throwing up ideological roadblocks.

How about cutting taxes on income and products? Isn't that an economic stimulus plan that would work?

The cartoon portrays the stimulus as a rocket - meaning it has the potential to blast the economy off. And only the dolt Obama who can't light a match (find a catalyst) is standing in the way of the stimulus working.

I'd like to see Obama dumping a bucket of gasoline (stimulus) on a raging inferno (recession) which is burning up a house (economy).

Wait till the new TRADE bill kicks in. Awesome stupititude.

On June 24, 106 Members of Congress introduced the Trade Reform, Accountability, Development, and Employment (TRADE) Act (H.R. 3012) as the vehicle for reshaping U.S. trade policy. Mandating additional reviews of current and potential trade agreements and adding a multitude of new exceptions, regulatory barriers, and other requirements, the act, if implemented, will effectively bring to a halt the free flow of goods and services into and out of the United States--hurting U.S. consumers and exporters alike.
Though cloaked as a measure designed to "ensure that trade is fair for our workers and economy,"[1] in reality such "fairness" means special breaks and government handouts for the politically connected and powerful, with the rest of America paying the bill. The real intent of the legislation is clear: to erect costly, protectionist walls around America's economy. In the process, it is likely to sound the death knell for the international trade system as a whole.

Open Markets: A Vital American Interest

As a consequence of more than six decades of trade liberalization, the United States has become the central and critical player in the global market, serving as a principle consumer and producer of goods and services flowing around the world. This trade has bolstered U.S. investment, jobs, economic growth, and prosperity. Trade accounts for about one-third of U.S. GDP, and open markets are vital to America's well-being. The proposed interventions of the TRADE Act would end openness by:

Granting an unfair competitive advantage to the special interests that lobby the hardest for protection, demanding onerous--and likely unfeasible--concessions from America's trade partners; and ultimately Eroding the rules-based system of trade that has lifted millions from poverty and driven economic growth in the U.S. and elsewhere.

The legislation would reduce America's presence in international commerce and hurt workers and businesses in all nations--including the U.S. [Front Page via Weasel Zippers]

I'm all for cap 'n trade; it's a nifty idea. Simply splendid. Positively stupendous. Brilliant beyond brilliant. I just have a different take on the whole notion.

Obama was negligent in letting congress come up with the stimulus. Maybe he believed that almost $800B on anything had to be stimulative, but now he is finding out that the bill was more focused on social engineering and paying off special interest than in providing an adrenaline shot to the economy.

I'm sure he'll ask for a do-over. Biden fumbled the message the other day, but he was essentially laying the ground work for porkulus II.
