Obamateurism of the Day

Normally, I’m glad to link to those who refer Obamateurisms to me, but for this one, I’m stumped.  How does one link Vice President Joe Biden, who was kind enough on yesterday’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos to admit that Barack Obama and his team misdiagnosed the economic crisis? Unfortunately, Biden and Obama haven’t learned their lesson:

Vice President Joe Biden said the Obama administration “misread how bad the economy was” but stands by its stimulus package and believes the plan will create more jobs as the pace of its spending picks up.

Biden, in an interview airing Sunday on ABC’s “This Week”, said the nation’s 9.5 percent unemployment rate is “much too high.”

“The figures we worked off of in January were the consensus figures and most of the blue chip indexes out there,” Biden said.

“We misread how bad the economy was, but we are now only about 120 days into the recovery package,” Biden added. More jobs will be created in coming months, he said.

It didn’t take a genius to figure that out, of course.  We’ve been tracking the effect of the stimulus package against unemployment numbers for the last few months, because the Obama administration explicitly said that they needed to spend hundreds of billions of dollars to keep unemployment from getting as high as 8.8%.  They got the money, and unemployment shot higher — because capital has taken flight, thanks to the big-spending policies of the Obama administration and the threats to hike taxes on businesses.

Nice to see the Veep getting in on the Obamateurism game.  If he only had a blog, I could give him proper credit for pointing out the amateurish fiscal policies of Barack Obama.  I’ll settle for a link to William Amos for pointing it out.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Great. Now Dear Leader will say that the economy is so bad that He needs even more power.

Vice President Joe Biden said the Obama administration “misread how bad the economy was” but stands by its stimulus package and believes the plan will create more jobs as the pace of its spending picks up.

What really riles me up about this “our bad” admission that they completely and totally fouled up was the way we were assured by the filthy liar in the White House that he had consulted with the brightest minds in the world and massive spending was the only option to quickly get us out of recession. Biden and the bastard in the White House should not be able to get away with this kind of admission without it coming back to haunt them and their filthy party for generations to come.

Sadly, America is populated by morons and a propagandistic press so this will not even be adequately reported out for what it is.

Biden, in an interview airing Sunday on ABC’s “This Week”, said the nation’s 9.5 percent unemployment rate is “much too high.”

What’s he going to say when it hits 25%???

doriangrey on July 6, 2009 at 8:13 AM

Fortunately this will be the only mistake they make…I mean misreading the economy doesn’t mean that they would pass the “wrong” bill to correct an economy they thought was happening, but wasn’t happening…
This is tantamount to a General making invasion plans, and then landing on the wrong island…that general would be relieved of duty.
They had the wrong plan, for the wrong island…they had nothing “right”.
But give them credit for admitting they were stupid…

Seems we’d better start getting used to the whole “misread” theme.

According to all sources, the Bush administration used the best available data in their reasoning for the

Why won’t the other socialist nations help us with an aid package? Russia has enormous energy wealth, same with Venez. China has too much money. If we’re gonna have new friends, show me the $. If Obama comes home from Russia without a promise of aid for our unemployed proleteriat, his visit was a failure.

JiangxiDad on July 6, 2009 at 8:23 AM

So when Obama said this was the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and that if we didn’t pass the porkulus bill immediately, we may never recover, are we to infer from Biden’s remarks that they were being overly optimistic?

http://pajamasmedia.com/rogerlsimon/2009/07/03/storm-clouds-on-the-fourth-of-july/

I don’t think I’ve ever seen my country so divided and depressed on the Fourth of July in my lifetime and – no matter what Bob Dylan dreamed up – I’m not young, forever or otherwise. That includes the Vietnam War period when both sides at least had some conviction and excitement for the future, even if wrong. Not so now. The current situation is grim.

Obama is already over. In six short months the now-spattered bumper stickers with “Hope and Change” seem like pathetic remnants from the days of “23 Skidoo,” the echoes of “Yes, we can” more nauseating than ever in their cliché-ridden evasiveness. Although they may pretend otherwise, even Obama’s choir in the mainstream media seems to know he’s finished, their defenses of his wildly over-priced medical and cap-and-trade schemes perfunctory at best. Everyone knows we can’t afford them. His stimulus plan – if you could call it his, maybe it’s Geithner’s, maybe it’s someone else’s, maybe it’s not a plan at all – has produced absolutely nothing. In fact, I have met not one person of any ideology who evinces genuine confidence in it.

On the foreign policy front, it’s more embarrassing. He switches positions every day, such as they are, while acting like a petit-bourgeois snob with our allies and then, when people with genuine passion for democracy emerge on the scene (the courageous Iranian protestors), behaves like a cringeworthy, equivocating creep. Enough of Obama.

Read the entire article; pretty much sums up the mess we’re in.

Hey, Mr. Biden, I have another clue for you. When you hike our taxes we’ll have less disposable income and it’s gonna get worse so, brace yourself.

boomer on July 6, 2009 at 8:30 AM

They “misread” nothing! They said we have to do this fast. They said we have a crisis. They said this is worse than the great depression. Hurry. Hurry. HURRY! America burned up the phone lines yelling “NO!!!” They passed it anyway. 2 TRILLION DOLLARS! Obama promised to create 2.5 million jobs. Obama promised unemployment wouldn’t exceed 8%. Now we know most of that money is going to pay off Obama contributors. They have revised the job creation number to 600,000 (oh goodie well make up for January). And, unemployment is at 9.5% (not counting people who have given up or fallen off the unemployment roles) This was a scam from the beginning. I’m mad as hell! They are not going to get away with this “oops” crap.

I don’t know about you folks but I’m actually seeing more cars with Kerry/Edwards stickers still on them than people willing to admit that they were unindicted co-conspirators in destroying this nation.

That being said, Obama is far from finished. Like a wounded animal, the Chicago street thug will become even more evil if he senses that his agenda is failing.

Fast forward to July, and you see no Obamaites walking the streets chanting anything; no bumper stickers, no yard signs. This was my feeling as well; Very subdued activities this year. I think a lot of people pinned their last “hopes” on all that “change” Barry was going to bring, and they’re, (maybe) a little embarrassed that he’s turned out, (we knew it all along) to be such a loser.

Sidenote- I had an opportunity to catch up on a big stack of magazines this past week-end and I was greatly amused to notice how many articles there were on, “To avoid stress and anxiety, don’t pay attention to the news, turn off your TV, focus on your family, etc. etc.” Yeah. I always try to keep in mind a few things

1) Americans don’t have the same mindset as Europeans, and will reject the coming misery brought forth by Obarfio’s policies
2) The Democrats ALWAYS — ALWAYS screw things up for themselves. They have a gnarly habit of shooting their own feet
3) The fact is, Obarfy is going to have to make good on all the promises. We know he won’t. That is going to be a problem in ‘12. Sure, people will still vote for him, but the enthusiasm is going to not be the same. It’s going to be totally different. A sea change of disaffection will wash over the left, and people will be reduced to Kerry-esque excitement

He’s promised them the sun, moon, and all the stars. The people won’t get them, and when they see that, yea, they’ll vote for Obarfio again, but not in the same numbers we’ve seen, and not with the same blinded, uber-emotional enthusiasm we saw last fall.

Not one of these kids now support Obama and what they are watching him do. Several of these kids are talking about taking a year off from school in order to help their parents out at home.

Keemo on July 6, 2009 at 9:26 AM

We had to pass the stimulus…we had to. The fate of our economy depended on the rapid passage of this “stimulus.”

That is what we were told time and time again.

Yet…now, that the “stimulus” has not performed as promised, we are told that we need to believe the same “experts” when they now say they underestimated the recession?

Perhaps they should take a closer look at the FDR programs and be honest…they did not work. They actually prolonged the Depression. Were it not for the attack on Pearl Harbor the Depression would have lasted until the late 1940’s, or until FDR could be replaced and common sense permitted to rule.

Common sense? Today, from this Administration, a very uncommon virtue.

I know that Jeff.. We all need some good humor right about now.

Here’s what was really puzzling about Biden’s remark: The stimulus was absolutely rushed through without much thought because the situation was so dire.

So what’s the deal? Surely they aren’t thinking of asking for more money.

AnninCA on July 6, 2009 at 10:01 AM

More jobs will be created in coming months, he said.

Right. When the teachers all go back to work Obama will treat that as jobs created. Of course, he may supplement that with a stimulus package to underwrite the hiring of an army of useless teachers’ aides who will then be on the public payroll receiving a living wage and gold-plated medical benefits in return for serving in a capacity in which they’re unqualified to serve. In effect, they’ll be much like mafia-style no-show jobs in construction projects.

AnninCA on July 6, 2009 at 10:01 AM

“…asking for more money.” ??? They don’t, and won’t ask. They have enough votes to ram it through. If you recall, NOBODY reads these bills, not the first Porkulus bill and not Crap ‘n Raid.

Son of Porkulus will be crammed down out throats and up our patooties. Plan on it.

Keemo on July 6, 2009 at 9:57 AM

That sounds promising. I’m curious what the college kids are saying right now. I guess the prospect of no jobs waiting for them after graduation is sobering.

The real challenge will be getting them all to admit that Obama and Congress is to blame and not the boogeyman they call Bush.

Basically, what the young people here are saying is simply that Obama has not held up to his promises of a transparent government, no lobbyist, reduction of the national dept, and open to the public government.

Really, I’m not making that crap up. These young people are calling it pretty close to the mark. Another hot topic for discussion is Obama’s arrogance and narcissist behavior.

Keemo on July 6, 2009 at 10:26 AM

Maybe a little off-topic, but did anybody catch the latest OTHER Gird-Your-Loins moment from Say It Ain’t So, Joe?

Where he said that the United States would not try to prevent Israel from taking military action against Iran if they developed a nuke? To paraphrase a famous former governor of Alaska, You Betcha.

Seems like all those pro-Mousavi people might have gone to Joe’s head, even if they haven’t gotten the attention of The Twelfth Imam Hussein Obama yet.

Steve Z on July 6, 2009 at 10:27 AM

Even God was smart enough to flood the world and get rid of all the “oops!” This “my bad” philosophy is costing so much money. I really love to drive around and watch people with razor blades scraping their OBAMA bumper stickers off of their cars. They are very meticulous to make sure all of it is removed, even the paint!

I’m in Bozeman, too. The few remaining cars that I see with hope-and-change bumper stickers all seem to be in the parking lots at MSU or in the teachers’ lot at BHS.

Then there was the Green Coalition of Gay Loggers for Jesus that marched Saturday to protest the Tea Party march. (Heh.) Seemed as though most of the 50 (at best) or so that showed up were old hippies.

Actually, Joe said the Obama administration is 100% in favor of Iran building nukes and wiping out Israel with them.

Okay, that’s not what he said but Gibbs says that’s what he meant to say.

Dead on target jix… I’m actually east of you, in between Reed point and Columbus. My son attends MSU and lives off Main St… I spend quite a bit of time in your hood. Bozeman is a world class beautiful city!

Keemo on July 6, 2009 at 11:04 AM

Yeah, my family and I are east coast transplants (about 15 years ago), and we think Bozeman is pretty special. I’m just slightly familiar with your neck of the woods, but that’s some beautiful country, too.

One kid is in college and the other’s a senior, so I get to hear what the young people think about Obama, too.

I can confirm what you have said. I’d estimate about 60-65% of the ones I know are starting to question his policies contrasted with about 75-80% who favored accepting them without reservation just after the election.

Exactly my situation also; one in college, one a senior at Reed Point High. We are west coast transplants, having made the move in 2005. Absolutely love the slower pace of life here, as well as the family oriented people of Montana.

Hunting, fishing, hiking, camping… Love it here!

How many mulligans does the electorate get? What if the Presidency comes with a probation period like every other job in America and, at the six-month review, America calls Obama into its figurative office and tells him that it just isn’t working out and Friday will be his last day. Wouldn’t that be sweet.

highhopes on July 6, 2009 at 11:59 AM

Sometimes, it’s almost as if Joe is trying to undermine his Partner in Crime.

bluelightbrigade on July 6, 2009 at 8:38 AM

It’s a political thing, he knows it’s never going to happen, but just in case he is saying what he needs to so that he doesn’t end up against the wall with Obama.

doriangrey on July 6, 2009 at 8:45 AM

A bit late for a response, but…

…I agree. Joe may have a disconnect between his brain and his mouth, but he’s basically like Rain Man when it comes to playing the Obama Admin. game.

highhopes on July 6, 2009 at 11:59 AM

Only in this one case.

If it were in place say…over the last 8 years, we’d have been voting every 6 months just to make the crybaby America haters on the left STFU.

Kind of makes you think of Honduras. They don’t seem to be putting up with their Marxist.

BetseyRoss on July 6, 2009 at 12:07 PM

The Obama message seems to be:

1. We’re going to create save slow down the loss of jobs.

2. If you’re a business, you’re going to pay more for energy, health care, taxes, and penalties for being successful or paying your employees too much. And if you’re in the “wrong” business, we’re going to kill you.

3. This should make you want to hire more people.

Powerful mojo is an understatement!

Did you know his grandfather financed the Entire WW2 Nazis with 1 share of stock valued at $124.00 deposited in the bank he worked at in 1924!

DSchoen on July 6, 2009 at 3:23 PM

Obama’s plan for America can be summed up in a few short phrases:

If it moves, tax it.

If it keeps moving, regulate it.

And

if it stops moving, subsidize it.

DSchoen on July 6, 2009 at 3:51 PM

Not related to today’s Obamateurism, but I really got a kick seeing him giving his big announcement about appointing somebody to update all of the light bulbs in the White House, and behind his head was a really nice chandelier which won’t look so nice with those curley light bulbs.
