Hey Grow, I did what you suggested and immeditaely found a blog posting about Cynthia Sheehan holding an anti war protest in DC this past March and her complaints about how the media failed to cover it, with the implication that now that Obama is in charge, the media is responding differently.
Other responses had a similar flavor, pointing out the difference in coverage for very similar and news-worthy events. Thanks for the suggestion.

http://www.centralvalleyteaparty.com/ At least 7,500 showed up at one of the California Tea Parties, and so did the press. California is waking up, especially after the Water Rally with 15,000 protesters in downtown Fresno on July 1st. Sure the link says 4,000 but the Police went to Phase II when 10,000 showed up, and they went to Phase II at 10 am, the rally started at 12.

Two of my kids and I were there. My son asked if I thought there were enough people there to make politicians notice. I said I didn’t know, but that if we all went out and worked to inform others they might notice in the next election.

Having it on July 4 meant that it competed with other things that people could be doing, which probably lowered the attendance. But like someone else said, it was a slow news day so it should have appeared in the news.

I don’t know if the Journal-Star had anything either. I won’t have that paper in my house because I feel like I have to correct the blatant mistakes – which is most of the paper. I’ve written to them too many times to have them correct their content and they never will. Never.

I’d like to suggest an idea. If anybody plans on attending the All Star game in St. Louis, wear yellow (as in the “Don’t Tread On Me” flag), as a symbol of support of the Tea Party movement.

There was a big rally in the St. Louis area, in Washington, Mo. You wouldn’t know it happened by reading the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Its headline this morning was about a tattoo parlor opening in downtown.

For Steamers in other states, that training is taking place over the next few weeks in Punta Gorda (7/9), Sarasota (7/10), Richmond, Denver and Tampa (7/11), San Antonio (7/18), Baton Rouge (7/22), Dallas (7/23). It’s free, including a free lunch, and

Some of the event topics include:
· Building Coalitions, Reaching Your Community, and Organizing Meaningful Events
· Holding Your Elected Officials Accountable
· Getting Involved in State and Local Political Campaigns
· New Media: Op-Eds, Blogs, Wikipedia Projects and more

The topics look interesting but I think the schmooze factor would be even more valuable – hooking up with like-minded people who are willing to take a day off of work in order to get more involved politically. The org putting it on is part of the Sam Adams Alliance.

What 4th competition? Except for the fireworks, there was no other news. No politics, limited sports, no business.

The media had nothing else to cover.

We had about 70-100 in Nanuet, NY (Rockland County just north of NYC) and there was another not too far from there (New City, NY) but I don’t have numbers on that one. The local newspaper covered both events with some pics. The event we attended was from 12-4 and people were coming and going so its hard to say how many actually attended, but not more than 100 I think. We were at a small park near a busy intersection and there were a lot of supportive horn honkers. The only sign up attempt was a petition for Ron Paul’s bill to audit the Fed, which many people signed. I am unable to find any press coverage of the NYC event (7/1) or events in Albany, the state capitol, in their papers (i.e., NYT, Daily News, Post), although there are blogs reporting on them.

We had a tea party in Greensboro GA. I would guess around 200 people attended. The organizers did a great job. There were reporters there from Athens, GA. It did make the paper. I am not sure if this link will work. I tried.
