Iran: Mousavi a US agent

Well, of course Mirhossein Mousavi is an American agent.  After all, what do we seek in stooges for our clandestine service?  Men who have helped collaborate to kill over 240 Marines in Lebanon get right past the written exam and have their SEIU application fast-tracked.

It does look like Mousavi has been kicked out of the Mullahs Club, though:

A top aide to Iran’s supreme leader called the country’s main opposition figure a U.S. agent and said in an editorial Saturday he should be tried for committing crimes against the nation.

While hard-line figures had previously demanded Mir Hossein Mousavi to be prosecuted for describing Iran’s June 12 elections fraudulent and leading demonstrations afterward, the editorial was the first public declaration that the opposition leader was a foreign agent. …

“It has to be asked whether the actions of (Mousavi and his supporters) are in response to instructions of American authorities,” said Hossein Shariatmadari in an editorial appearing in the conservative daily Kayhan.

Shariatmadari doesn’t hold a government position but is the powerful director of the Kayhan newspaper group and a close adviser to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He added that Mousavi was trying to “escape punishment for murdering innocent people, holding riots, cooperating with foreigners and acting as America’s fifth column inside the country.”

This isn’t desperation as much as it is rote.  The mullahs have followed their usual pattern of discrediting their opposition, which they routinely cast as foreign influence designed by demons to destroy Allah’s anointed kingdom.  The Great Satan usually gets cast in this role — after all, it wouldn’t do to have some third-string demon attacking something as divine as the Iranian mullahs — but the Iranians have taken no chances over the last three weeks.  They’re using the shotgun approach and blaming everyone.

Iranians may have trouble swallowing that this time.  In order to believe that, the mullahs had to have been duped into working with Mousavi as Prime Minister in the early days of the revolution.  Khamenei himself partnered with Mousavi during that time.  Is Khamenei so gullible as to work with the Great Satan’s minion?  Even more difficult will be selling Mohammed Khatami as an agent of one of the pantheon of satans the mullahs like to reference, since Khatami worked closely with them as late as last year.

This probably wasn’t written to convince anyone Mousavi was a foreign agent.  It’s the signal that Mousavi has been removed from the ruling clique forever.  Mousavi has little to lose politically by challenging the mullahs’ power now — although certainly he has plenty to lose physically, as does his family. by the way I am still happy for Palin.

Isn’t this all Bush’s fault?

ladyingray on July 4, 2009 at 8:23 AM

Two other points:

Doing this brands Mousavi’s youthful followers as American “agents” as well. Since they’re not, it undermines the regime’s ability to ever use the US as future bogeyman.

Secondly, it’s another example of the failure of Obama’s engagement policy with Iran. Hammer O on this!

JiangxiDad on July 4, 2009 at 8:23 AM

Karl Rove you magnificent bastard!

Ed, your talking about the Obama administration again aren’t you?

conservnut on July 4, 2009 at 8:25 AM

No wonder Ogabe is vetoing the G8 attempt to put sanctions on Iran, we have a guy on the inside who can hurt them.

Bishop on July 4, 2009 at 8:26 AM

Back when the Mullahs first took over, they executed Bani Sadr and Ghotbzadeh, two secular ministers in the post-Shah government, for allegedly being agents of a western intelligence agency.

But, this allegation against Mousavi, well, it seems a stretch. I doubt the Iranian people will buy it.

No. Jimmy Carter.

You’re so right…I stand corrected.

ladyingray on July 4, 2009 at 8:30 AM

Blood Purge!!!!!

Hey, wait a minute. This is because Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace weren’t running his campaign, right?

You know, now that Palin’s free, perhaps she could do a speech or two for Mousavi…..

….when he gets out of Labor Camp in 15 years.

Cindy Munford on July 4, 2009 at 8:27 AM

I don’t think so, the great satan thing is wearing a bit thin over there.

conservnut on July 4, 2009 at 8:31 AM

“Goats” was executed in the first purge, iirc.

victor82 on July 4, 2009 at 8:31 AM

Mousavi a US agent. Achmadinejad is grasping at straws to dissolve Iranian spine.

maverick muse on July 4, 2009 at 8:32 AM

I hope they don’t find out he’s Jewish as well.

JiangxiDad on July 4, 2009 at 8:32 AM

Hey Mullahs, Obama is an Iranian agent!!!

Keemo on July 4, 2009 at 8:33 AM

What I don’t understand is how a significant portion of the populace will just accept this. I mean, this is their explanation for everything. Doesn’t it get suspicious after, oh I don’t know, the third time they use it? You’d think they’d get creative eventually.

Emily M. on July 4, 2009 at 8:33 AM

Probably just a simple misunderstanding.

Ahmadinejad: “Mousavi, you are an agent of the Great Satan!”

Mousavi: “Like Hell!!”

Ahmadinejad: “That proves it!”

coldwarrior on July 4, 2009 at 8:34 AM

53% of our populace believed Obama. They have no exclusive on stupidity.

The protest signs in English was my first clue but I guess you don’t have to be too quick if you have all the guns and all the power. I wish I knew how we could be a source of inspiration but I think we can count our current president out for that cheerleading squad.

Cindy Munford on July 4, 2009 at 8:40 AM

Oh, nevermind JiangxiDad. I didn’t read that closely enough.

Emily M. on July 4, 2009 at 8:41 AM

Well I guess Obama’s plan to suck up to the mullahs isn’t softening their opinion of us now is it?

Terrye on July 4, 2009 at 8:45 AM

Ogabe said to be “very concerned” about the Great Satan remarks and may, MAY decide to rescind his invitation to the Iranians for the White House Christmas gala.

Bishop on July 4, 2009 at 8:45 AM

Hmmmmmmm…..wonder what the dues are to join the Mullahs Club?

Ayatollah Khamenei: Mousavi is an agent of the Great Satan!

President Obama: I won!

It does look like Mousavi has been kicked out of the Mullahs Club, though:

yeah they kicked his azz out, they need room for oboobi..

“What I don’t understand is how a significant portion of the populace will just accept this. I mean, this is their explanation for everything.”

Kinda like how signifinant portions of Americans accept junk like “X must be enacted TODAY because it will save or create Y jobs in this time of immense crisis!!!”

KS Rex on July 4, 2009 at 8:50 AM

It’s not the dues you have to worry about, it’s the don’ts.

I apologize. There is no humor in Islam.

Crowder has a funny vid of him playing Kim and speaking to Ahmad on the phone. He asks Ahmad “how u protesters going?” Before Andy can answer, Kim says, “oh, i forgot, u kill them, hee, hee, hee.”

JiangxiDad on July 4, 2009 at 8:54 AM

It all makes perfect sense now… Obama hasn’t been soft on Iran, he has an inside man. I bet they were courting Mousavi during that over sees election trip they took.

Now, if only we has an inside guy in Honduras.

Hey Mullahs, Obama is an Iranian agent!!!

Keemo on July 4, 2009 at 8:33 AM

That would be more credible than Mousavi being an American agent.

A top aide to Iran’s supreme leader called the country’s main opposition figure a U.S. agent and said in an editorial Saturday he should be tried for committing crimes against the nation.

Under these premises, shouldn’t we have put Gore and Kerry on trial for their agressive ambitions? Does Obama have a “top aid” around to calling for John McCain’s head? Oh, that’s right, the media has this distinction—right Sarah?

Sounds a lot like Obama Admin. tactics. You know what they say… Vultures of a feather….

Mullah- He is an american agent.

Barry: hey don’t be so hard on the guy.He would never work for a low down repressive country like the USA. I apologize for his name being dragged through the mud like that. Does he have health care?

Didn’t Mousavi ask a question at Obooba’s town hall meeting the other day?

Akzed on July 4, 2009 at 10:18 AM

How ridiculous that they would accuse Mousavi of taking directions from the “American authorities.” What a bunch of paranoid jerks.

Everyone knows that he’s an agent for the Mossad.
