I’m so glad to see the Governor put first things first. Nothing is more important than raising children and women are gifted care givers. I am so grateful that my wife has spent the last 18 years at home raising our children. She knows that nothing she can do outside the home is as important as the work she has done with our children. Women who pretend that a career is a valid choice once they have children are fooling themselves. I think women should choose to have a career or have kids. However when they try to do both simultaneously the children and society suffers. Greta was denigrating the choice to stay home and she was and is WRONG!
Men with children never get this crap. And that’s all it is….sexist crap.
AnninCA on July 3, 2009 at 10:17 PM
No it isn’t Ann.
There are true differences between men and women. There is much overlap and many have careers of jobs outside the home, but that doesn’t mean that the job or career is the most important thing in the family.
Usually, the husband and wife team up, but on average men do certain things better than women and women on average do certain things better than men.
Greta apologized. She did ‘cross the line’ a little bit I thought.
However, I understood why she said it.
One of the problems we have in the US today is the belief that women have all the wisdom and don’t make mistakes or are perfect.
Women are not perfect, and many in fact do not put the family first.
If the career destroys the family, then maybe a different line of work should be considered.
I think what really needs to be acknowledged is that the Palin family represents the majority of American families.
Unlike those politicians who enter the beltway and become a slave to the politics and the state run media; those that forget their constituents. Stroke their egos and whatever else. Use a tissue please!!!
Palin represents, fly over America. That space that does not include that postage stamp spot encompassed by Interstate 495.
Both Republican and Democrat have failed us. The litany of bad politicians is collapsing our government, our economy and our way of life.
If Palin leaves beyond this realm into the land of unicorns and happy places, then I want to follow. So badly.
My ex & I have a great relationship to this day (we’re going to Saugatuck tomorrow with one of the kids. The other is hanging with a friend who leaves for boot camp in 10 days)… if anyone, ANYONE came after my ex (not even married anymore, mind you) or my kids the way they came after Mrs Palin….

And the media carousel spins. With no thought or reason.
Greta Van Susteren is a freakazoid very high ranking member of the Church of Scientology. Plus, she and her husband are childless. The fact that she doesn’t have to multi-task a damn thing that includes raising any children whatsoever makes her extremely well qualified to defend the honor of jack $hit around the world.
On a side note, her plastic surgery and complete teeth removal and denture makeover made her somewhat better looking, but she’s still dumb as a sack of hammers.
The fact that she simply has a vagina (so it is rumored) does not make her an expert on what anyone, especially a man, means, when they are gabbing and the man happens to mention that a very busy woman who suddenly becomes dramatically less busy will have more time with her kids and family. It is not an automatic slap in the face of ‘multi-tasking’ women or women in general.
Greta needs to stfu and just commune with Tom Cruise and the tormented ghost of L. Ron Hubbard when she’s not multi-tasking her air time and her teachings of Xenu, evil mastermind of the Galactic Confederation, who flew people to Teegeeack (Earth) 75-million years ago in a fleet of DC-8 airplane space ships, chained the people to volcanos, and blew them all up with hydrogen bombs which released exploded ‘theta rays’ that are now the source of all human suffering.
You’re damned straight, Greta. Women are held to a different standard in EVERY sphere of society.
As working women, they’re expected to put in an 8 hour day and come home and take care of the children and cook the evening meal, while their husbands come home from their factory job and sit down and read the newspaper. That’s what happened in my home.
Sarah Palin should not have had to endure the awful and gross insults against her children that she endured. No other candidate in recent history had to hear what she did against her children.
But hey, she’s a CONSERVATIVE! She should be able to take it! It’s all false, after all, isn’t it?
All I know is that Bristol shouldn’t have had to have had her pregnancy outted in the way it was, nor should Willow have had to endure David Letterman’s crass and stupid “jokes” against her.
And as for Trig – Ask Celtic Diva about those. She’s a liberal fount of info about that.
If Sarah Palin had been a democrat, I’d guarantee you that none of these attacks would have occurred. But she’s a conservative, so hey, her family is fair game!
I watched this exchange when it originally aired. My mother and I were joking that Greta put the “smack down” on Greg. That being said though, I believe Greta to be a sexist. It’s ALL about “women” with her. Reverse sexism is just as bad as reverse racism and there’s no excuse or justification for either.
Oh yeah, women are better at hammering nails. Didn’t we read that somewhere? OH HERE? Were they hammering nails into their husband’s heads with petty demands and screaming about their periods?
We all know MEN are supposed to be BETA MALES rather than be a fvcking man. Men should be more like women. Acquiesce and play The Game.
Women are better at everything. MEN suck, right GRETA you tired old hag? There’s a name for women like you, GRETA. It’s not a nice name.
Man OR woman, doesn’t matter. If you get elected to a 4 year or 6 year office and leave half way through it looks like you can’t complete your obligations. She committed to her term of office and she’s walking out on it.
Now, I wish Barry would do that, like RIGHT NOW, but if he did I’d say the same thing, the only difference being that he really SHOULD leave office and she has no real reason not to IMO.
It’d be different if she did something like Sanford, or was as crooked as Murtha, but that isn’t the case as far as I know. Now I can’t look at her and say “she can handle the presidency” when she walks out halfway through her governor term. It just looks crappy, no matter what the real reason might be.
Greta is wrong. Greg wasn’t relegating Sarah to the home. He was acknowledging that Sarah is a committed mom and this resignation could very well be a decision based on what is best for her family. Meaning she is an important influence in their lives. Sarah knows that any success outside the home will never compensate for failure in the home.
Here’s what Brett should have said: “Greta, shut the f**k up. Nobody wants to hear the retread, 1970’s women’s lib BS from a side of the mouth talker. Just shut the f**k up, OK honey?”
The Left is very effective at destroying their opponents. She was being buried, as Governor, with the pettiest of ethics complaints… she effectively couldn’t govern. They wanted to destroy her very badly. Unlike other politicians, her children didn’t seem to be off limits. Why is that? There is no line the Left will not cross in order to win.
You want to win? Pay attention. Make note of KOs advertisers on MSNBC and write them letters and boycott their products. Same for ABC, CBS, NBC. Don’t put your money where their mouth is. New movie with Paltrow coming out? Don’t go. Make DVDs of “The Great Global Warming Swindle” and pass them out to friends and family instead of watching “Idol”.
My wife told me last night how angry she was becoming and upset with what was happening. I pointed out to her that the Left has been that way for a very long time because they believe just the opposite of what we do.
Most states have 50% or so of their state budget dedicated to their Dept. of Ed. and that is where the long term battle must be won. Last week, a Kansas teacher fought to have his contract renewed… they weren’t going to renew him because his school web page (they design their own) was deemed to be “too patriotic”. What alternative universe is that?
The Left/Right battle has been going on for more years than I’ve been alive and I’m 60. Nearly every aspect is either controlled by or permeated with people and policies of the Left. Governments… local, state and federal. Communications media… newspapers, magazines and television. They have been winning for a very long time.
Proof? Barney Frank’s boyfriend ran a homosexual prostitute ring from his DC townhouse years and years ago and he still holds office. Murtha took a $50K bribe ON VIDEO and he’s still in office. Thomas Jefferson, Democrat Louisiana.. Jeez… Ted Kennedy got drunk and ran his car into the water and the young honey he was taking out for his own version of “porkulous” was drowned and he’s had a lengthy career after that.
We have ONE fairly conservative candidate in the ring that proves to be fairly popular and the Left does everything in their power to destroy her.
The second front is money. All forms of government must be cut off from as much money as possible. No new taxes. No bonds issues passed. No “cigarette taxes to help The Children”. No government run lotteries (the Mafia did it much better with far less overhead ;). Has anyone else noticed that with this recent economic decline and local goverments in a sqeeze, the first thing they announce is that they will have to cut police and fire protection instead of the true overhead? The only difference between a welfare recipient and a government employee is that the welfare recipient isn’t interfering with my daily life. They are both a burden on society, just one is a bigger burden that the other. I suspect the federal government could operate just fine at less than 25% of the size while state and locals could probably get by at a 50% reduction. Make every effort to cut off their funds and force them to reduce their size significantly.
Do not budge on your ideological beliefs. Some people try to ignore the social aspect of conservatism but remain fiscally conservative. Doesn’t work. You don’t have to be a religious zealot to have moral values. You don’t have to be a prude to recognize that legalized drugs are bad for society. Abortion? Well, if you don’t respect life, there is no point in having a debate with you. Behaviors that are destructive to the family and society should be strongly opposed. There used to be something called “shame” associated with them. Nothing seems to be shameful any more.
It was a knee jerk reaction every woman fights on a daily basis. She was right, but … I would never put a co-worker on the spot publically for something like that. He would not have said that about Sanford – no one said that about Sanford so that was a bald faced lie.
Many men just don’t get it and that’s ok. It doesn’t make them sexist. What would be sexist is if he had said, “She really shouldn’t have run for office in the first place because she has children.”
I think a lot of men wonder how women like Palin manage to do what they do and are exhausted just imagining it. Not every woman CAN do what Palin does. She is one of the best role models for conservative women that I have ever seen.
I think every conservative woman who heard that exchange had the same reaction as Greta. We have all been taking unbelievable hits in our own lives since Palin emerged. Many of us have lost friends over that exact “A woman with five kids whould stay home” argument. It has been a revelation to a lot of us just how far we have not come even though we are professionals, moms, wives … pretty much what the NOW nuts envisioned initialy as possible and then gave up to support abortion as the only way to feminism.
He hit a realy deep, raw, open wound with those words, but he couldn’t possibly understand that. Conservative moms are only just wrapping our heads around it ourselves, which is why Greta probably dropped her guard so publically,
She’s a candidate with an amazing, raw, and uncanny ability to connect with voters. In three years, with the “study study study” regimen, she could have been a juggernaut on the political scene, and could have very well steamrolled Prince Obarfing.

Is anyone on here suggesting that Greta didn’t have the right to call Jarrett out for his comments? So what if Greta’s all about women’s rights, etc.? We don’t know the crap she’s had to go through just to get where she’s at. I don’t think it hurts a thing to have a woman stand up for other women!!!
Need I remind anyone that it is STILL a man’s world?
blatantblue, “could have been” –don’t be of little faith.
If you believe in Sarah’s talents, then don’t begrudge her your support. She reached a cross-roads and her family unanimously united with her decision. It takes a feckless male to kick a conservative woman when she puts her foot down with determination. If it’s uncomfortable trusting her judgment, at least don’t belittle it. Let it be for now.
I think every conservative woman who heard that exchange had the same reaction as Greta. We have all been taking unbelievable hits in our own lives since Palin emerged.
BrideOfRove on July 4, 2009 at 8:08 AM
Uh, no, every conservative woman did not have the same reaction as Greta. And to suggest that our own lives have been negatively affected since Palin emerged is a loony assertion.
Friday will be forever remembered by me as the day that Sarah Palin threw down the gauntlet and began her national career of returning America to its roots.
Across the country were cheers as people came to realize that the last remaining conservative leader cast off her shackles so she could continue her fight against political corruption, insider politics, and media bias.
The sound we all heard also resonated from the White House as they came to realize a real American just became free to fight against their America destroying politics, and cowardly socialist revolution.
Amongst those making that revolting noise were the beltway insiders on both sides of the isle, Congress, the faux independants, the weak kneed moderates, and the socialist media.
As they were gearing up to celebrade their day of Obama Dependance they heard the lone voice of conservative ideology tell the World that she was now free to take the fight to the next level …
and the sound of a collective crapping of the pants was heard.
There is more to this story.Palin is a fighter, not one to back down.To the ones out there who say yeah ,she should stay home w/the kids, women can multitask!!
Conservatives shouldn’t indulge in identity politics.
Trent1289 on July 4, 2009 at 10:34 AM
We can only dream.
Look, there’s no doubt that Palin and her family have been viciously attacked and persecuted, and many of the attacks (like Letterman’s) were “sexist”, but I don’t think we do women (or Palin) any favors when we play the tedious gender game and flip out at someone like Gregg Jarrett because he surmises that her children might have something to do with her decision to call it quits for now. Indeed, Palin herself cited her children as a reason.
So Greta was advocating that political correctness be the guidepost for journalism?
csdeven on July 4, 2009 at 11:44 AM
Precisely. Should we refrain from criticizing the One because of how it will be perceived by some? Pass.
The truth is the truth. She cited family reasons in her resignation; it’s not sexist to reference them later. Greta was probably (justifiably) upset about this announcement and took it out on the anchor.
Can there be any doubt now about Greta? She’s a hard core feminist, a typical member of the MSM. Not to be trusted in conservative circles whatsoever.
She and her husband did a masterful job of “advising” Sarah Palin right out the political door.
Today Greta and all of her friends in the democrat party and msm are toasting each other and trading high-fives.
The extreme naivety on the part of Republicans and Movement Conservatives is astounding! Darvin Dowdy
Greta’s probably just pissed because Palin made up two-thirds of her show content over the last year or so. Now if only there were another Natalee Halloway case….
I think Greta and Nancy Grace do Fox News a disservice. The majority of their show content is in the missing blonde / car chase / Natonional Enquirer cover story category.
The only reason Greta even has a show is thanks to her participation in the coverage of the OJ Simpson debacle. She should move over to CourtTV and let a real news anchor/talking head take her place.
Its crap like this, that made me turn off fox news. The entire day spent on a dead pedophile and grettas self run pro woman agenda, from the peterson case to ever other missing female.
CACA!
I heard this entire cross-fire on the radio this weekend. Greta was way out of line. Greg and Greta both were speculating as to why Palin resigned. Bringing up family during this was completely legit. (Especially since Sarah herself always mentions family as the root of her decisions). I wonder if Gretta has been talking to a female and this had came up if she would have reacted the same way? Gretta was way out of line and could have been more effective by making her point lightley. She gave Greg no professional courtesy.
I find this thread interesting. We women aren’t finding Greta out of line or even horrible, and the men are.
Let me put it this way. I have a Peach of a husband. I adore him. But I find myself knocking myself to do for US, and he sort of does for.. him. I think it is part of the programming. Women and men work hard. It is just when a man is done doing for him.. he is done. When a woman is done.. oh wait.. she isn’t.. she is still running around the house doing from them, while he watches the game.
Sarah is quite capable of caring for that little boy. If she quit to do it more, MORE power to her, but she was doing just fine before this. I think it was the pressure, from men on the left and the right that is part of this whole answer. One rule for her and another rule for “the One”.
Blowback

Yes, she is walking out of it
And if she’s leaving politics forever, I’ll be even more disgruntled.

There’s a country that needs saving.

She’s a candidate with an amazing, raw, and uncanny ability to connect with voters. In three years, with the “study study study” regimen, she could have been a juggernaut on the political scene, and could have very well steamrolled Prince Obarfing.
blatantblue on July 4, 2009 at 8:12 AM
Is anyone on here suggesting that Greta didn’t have the right to call Jarrett out for his comments? So what if Greta’s all about women’s rights, etc.? We don’t know the crap she’s had to go through just to get where she’s at. I don’t think it hurts a thing to have a woman stand up for other women!!!
Need I remind anyone that it is STILL a man’s world?

I hate to tell you, she’s not the one. She’s good, (I voted for HER, not that butt head McCain) but she’s no savior.

blatantblue, “could have been” –don’t be of little faith.
It’s July 4th.

Uh, no, every conservative woman did not have the same reaction as Greta. And to suggest that our own lives have been negatively affected since Palin emerged is a loony assertion.

I’m a conservative woman and I think we found our voice and it’s not going to go back in the closet.

Your voice was in the proverbial closet before Palin came along?
You poor thing.

Did you hear that noise?
Sarah 2012!

GIVE ‘EM HELL Greta! Sometimes I think Jarrett and Sheppie Boy are in cahoots. I’m no feminist, but what’s right is right.

Conservatives shouldn’t indulge in identity politics. Greta sounds like Sotomayor.

There is more to this story.Palin is a fighter, not one to back down.To the ones out there who say yeah ,she should stay home w/the kids, women can multitask!!
ohiobabe on July 4, 2009 at 10:36 AM
Every other multi-tasking woman doesn’t have Greta and her pals shoving a microscope up her ass, 24/7.
Fuck the media, the Republican Parties only hope is to start totally bypassing the major media and speak directly to the people.
Sic Puppy on July 4, 2009 at 10:39 AM
We can only dream.
Look, there’s no doubt that Palin and her family have been viciously attacked and persecuted, and many of the attacks (like Letterman’s) were “sexist”, but I don’t think we do women (or Palin) any favors when we play the tedious gender game and flip out at someone like Gregg Jarrett because he surmises that her children might have something to do with her decision to call it quits for now. Indeed, Palin herself cited her children as a reason.

A lot of comments here don’t seem to have listened to the exchange, or heard what they want to hear.
All Greta was talking about was how his statement would be perceived by a large number of women.
He tried to defend it by saying 1) he didn’t it that way, and 2) that he would say the same thing to a man.
Neither of these defenses address Greta’s point about how it would be perceived.
Greta was dead right.
connertown on July 4, 2009 at 11:24 AM
And that is the point. If her family is more important and you can’t do both, why suggest she should run for president in 2012?
csdeven on July 4, 2009 at 11:43 AM
So Greta was advocating that political correctness be the guidepost for journalism?
csdeven on July 4, 2009 at 11:44 AM
Precisely. Should we refrain from criticizing the One because of how it will be perceived by some? Pass.
The truth is the truth. She cited family reasons in her resignation; it’s not sexist to reference them later. Greta was probably (justifiably) upset about this announcement and took it out on the anchor.
Trent1289 on July 4, 2009 at 1:33 PM
Can there be any doubt now about Greta? She’s a hard core feminist, a typical member of the MSM. Not to be trusted in conservative circles whatsoever.
She and her husband did a masterful job of “advising” Sarah Palin right out the political door.
Today Greta and all of her friends in the democrat party and msm are toasting each other and trading high-fives.
The extreme naivety on the part of Republicans and Movement Conservatives is astounding! Darvin Dowdy

Sign of the Dollar on July 4, 2009 at 5:40 PM
Greta’s probably just pissed because Palin made up two-thirds of her show content over the last year or so. Now if only there were another Natalee Halloway case….
Sign of the Dollar on July 4, 2009 at 5:41 PM
I think Greta and Nancy Grace do Fox News a disservice. The majority of their show content is in the missing blonde / car chase / Natonional Enquirer cover story category.
The only reason Greta even has a show is thanks to her participation in the coverage of the OJ Simpson debacle. She should move over to CourtTV and let a real news anchor/talking head take her place.
cannonball on July 5, 2009 at 2:00 AM
Its crap like this, that made me turn off fox news. The entire day spent on a dead pedophile and grettas self run pro woman agenda, from the peterson case to ever other missing female.

ColdWarrior57 on July 5, 2009 at 6:18 PM
I heard this entire cross-fire on the radio this weekend. Greta was way out of line. Greg and Greta both were speculating as to why Palin resigned. Bringing up family during this was completely legit. (Especially since Sarah herself always mentions family as the root of her decisions). I wonder if Gretta has been talking to a female and this had came up if she would have reacted the same way? Gretta was way out of line and could have been more effective by making her point lightley. She gave Greg no professional courtesy.
MichiganMatt on July 5, 2009 at 8:30 PM
