Poll: Obama slipping further on economy

Rasmussen’s new poll, taken before the release of June’s unemployment numbers, shows significant slippage for Barack Obama on the economy, his central issue. Only 42% of American voters give him excellent or good marks on handling the economy, the lowest ratings he has yet received. His personal approval rate has fallen to 53%, and the “passion index” has dropped to -2:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 33% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-five percent (35%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -2. This is the third straight day the Approval Index has been below zero (see trends).
A Rasmussen video report notes that 42% now give the President good or excellent marks for handling the economy . That’s his lowest rating to date …
Overall, 53% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance so far. Forty-six percent (46%) disapprove.
Obama has hit a new high among those rating him fair or poor on the economy at 56%. Just a week ago, 47% approved of his economic policies, as opposed to 50% disapproval, a margin of 3% — a statistical dead heat. Obama had been seen more favorable than not on the economy as late as the second week of May, when he held a 51%-48% advantage.
The demographics of his decline portend more bad news for Obama and his Democratic allies in Congress. Only the youngest voters support him on fiscal policy, and only barely, 52%-46%. Every other age demographic above 30 years of age has majorities now showing disapproval. Independents have begun to run away in massive numbers; they now oppose him 75%-23%, a huge break away from Obama and a sign that his supposed moderate stances have been exposed as shams. Every income level except the lowest also has majorities disapproving of his handling of the economy. Voters outside the “political class” oppose Obama 65%-33%.
Obama doesn’t fare well on national security, either. Rasmussen reports that Obama only has 44% approval on these issues, and 55% opposing him. Majorities of both women and men view him disfavorably. Every income level has majorities opposed to Obama, and independents disapprove 68%-31%. Obama only wins within the $60K-$75K income level; even his base of support among the lowest income earners narrowly reject Obama’s national-security policies, 52%-47%.
Obama isn’t just coming back to Earth in the polling. He’s losing independents and demonstrating his radical bent on policy, and more and more Americans have begun to see it.

I don’t pretend to really predict on this one. But I read some really interesting stuff about the same type of laws passed in Europe. Frankly, what happened? They couldn’t afford to impose the law. So what they did was raise the bar so high that it didn’t really affect much.
That way, they could say they had the law, but it didn’t actually effect change.
I’m guessing that will happen here, too. People are not going to ignore their electric bills. In fact, in my opinion? This was a gross misstep by Gore to push this type of system. People pay more attention to their own personal bills than to anything else!
In short, I think it won’t do a darn thing. It’s a pretend bill.

Not to mention all the financial regulatory garbage that’s still around today like FDIC, SEC, etc. He also had his own version of a mortgage bailout plan that was what Obama used as inspiration for his plan. FDR was a full fledged socialist pig, never lose sight of that.

Another thought about the bearer bonds story…someone was doing something hokey with bonds worth 1% of our GDP yet the media ignored the story. Fake bonds or real bonds (I’ve not dismissed the possibility they were authentic), that was a big story that no one paid attention to. Why?

A number of people were wondering last week WTH this income level contained that it was such an outlier in the stats. I have a guess: suburban teachers.
- Rural teachers might skew more to the center-right, but don’t make that much,
- Suburban teachers are 100% leftist, partisan Dems, so they can change the numbers measurably in a poll.
- There are a lot of them.
Just a guess. Who else is in that income level?
Jaibones on July 2, 2009 at 3:02 PM
As far as Cap and Trade goes .. I have an ironic story. Back in the mid 80’s I had an Aunt that passed and my father and I were going thru some old stuff she had. We came across some old kerosene lamps there and my Father asked if I wanted them. I said laughing ” I don’t need no old lamps”. My father replied “Son, you never know when those old lamps may be the only light you have”. Boy looking back now I should have listened to my father!!!
Dire Straits on July 2, 2009 at 3:02 PM
Oh…union members. In Chicago at least, those people are 100% partisan ‘rats, even though they seem largely conservative otherwise.
Jaibones on July 2, 2009 at 3:03 PM
You got me. It makes no sense, any way you cut it. All I can think is that part of it is the overload with all this other junk being piled on us at once, and all of the incredible mistakes this administration is making in every sphere, but this should be a huge story. We don’t even know who the guys were or who they were connected with. It’s all crazy.
progressoverpeace on July 2, 2009 at 3:03 PM
Overall, I’d agree.
However, the suburban teacher I live with is not a leftist, partisan Dem.

Heh, heh, heh…bein’ President is harrrrrrd!
Just was meandering through the CBO report on Crap’n Tax…did ya know Barry will pay you 70% of your weekly wages for 3 years if you lose your job due to Crap’n Tax?! Did ya also know that “low income” families (you know, the ones that don’t pay any taxes) will get upwards of $161 per person ($644 for family of 4) per month to offset the costs of increased energy so as not to reduce their “purchasing power”. You know, the purchasing power of low income folks that are going out to buy cars and plasma TVs and all… Bwahahahahhahah…we are so screwed. -sigh-
Wyznowski on July 2, 2009 at 3:07 PM

It’s my understanding the couriers have never been arrested. If the bonds were phony they should be headed for prison.
Good point about the overload. Obongo has heaped so much on us so fast it’s hard to keep up, even for a news junkie battling insomnia like me.

I think the Baracktator knew before he was elected that he wouldn’t have long to stick it to our country before the people woke up. It’s taken far too long in my opinion, but I think the eyelids may finally be opening. The real battles are between now and the mid-terms. Hussein is going put the peddle to the metal (or is it meddle?) now while he still has the House and Senate.

They need to run the numbers by race, then income. The poor blacks and illegals love him the most. The bill paying working class whites dislike him the most.
The non-working poor love him. The working middle class tax payers disaprove.
The bottom line is that if you work hard and pay your bills, you know better than to run up debt. If you are a government dependent, you love more free stuff from other peoples money. That simple.

You can tell Democrats from Republicans even when people are little infants. Republicans learn to walk before 10 months, are potty trained early, and start eating real food early. Democrats crap their pants forever, don’t walk until over a year old, and use a bottle forever.

Haven’t read the thread, but there is a guy on Cavuto right now suggesting that this is all deliberate, because desperate people tend to run into the “arms” of government for things like healthcare.
If energy prices skyrocket like he said he wanted, they control the means of movement. If what I’ve read/heard about cap and trade is accurate, he is trying to tank the housing market even further by making it too burdensome to sell a house.
He said, “Even if I want to” in regard to gun confiscation.
Between the things this man is doing, and those he seems to side with on the globe, I can’t help but feel like Americans made a fatal mistake in November. I just hope people wake up before it’s too late. We are being strangled. Will we even put up a fight?

It’s good to see the disastrous reality of this presidency is finally sinking in. Last summer and I tried to explain to anyone would listen to me that because Obama wanted to concede Iraq to Al Qaeda and Iran he was clearly unfit, on that account alone.
It was crazy to assume anyone this insane on foreign policy would be competent and domestic issues.
In the last three years global temperatures have clearly dropped. Anyone who, in the face of this, who would want to proceed with Crap N Trade is not merely imprudent but reckless. For all of his charm Barack Obama is a rigid leftist ideologue. He has just begun. When he is finished it will take a decade rectify the damage. And longer if there are more terrorist attacks because of his weakness and idiocy.
His one term presidency will be judged by historians as the worst in American history

“FDR was a full fledged socialist pig, never lose sight of that.”
I beg to differ, FDR was a Marxist, as was his wife.
“In his annual message as the year [1935] opened he [FDR] declared the day of great private accumulations of wealth had ended. Instead, wealth must be better distributed; every citizen must be guaranteed “a proper security, a reasonable leisure, and a decent living throughout life.”
Compton’s Encyclopdeia 1953 ed. Volume 12, page 209
Also, under FDR the bloat of the Federal government began. In 1940 roughly one of two federal employees worked for the Department of the Post Office.

The Porkulus, instead of “creating or saving” jobs is “wasting” jobs that could have been created or saved. I’d love to hear someone ask Gibbels or The Precedent how many jobs the “stimulus” has WASTED! Over and over and over again. It took a while, but the American people are finally waking up. They see/hear the ‘fuzzy math’ from Team Obama. They know in their gut the Media has given false and misleading reports. Americans watch the snarky, nasty attacks from Obama and Gibbs, and they are sick of the cover-ups of corrupt leaders and the staged WH Town Hall meetings. Under Obama’s leadership, the Dems are spending out of control, as American families are cutting back.
As for the Obama/Democrats stimulus, Americans see a little road contruction, but also see tons of businesses closed, empty malls, car lots without customers. Millions of their neighbors are joining the unemployed.
