Poll: Obama slipping further on economy

Rasmussen’s new poll, taken before the release of June’s unemployment numbers, shows significant slippage for Barack Obama on the economy, his central issue. Only 42% of American voters give him excellent or good marks on handling the economy, the lowest ratings he has yet received. His personal approval rate has fallen to 53%, and the “passion index” has dropped to -2:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 33% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-five percent (35%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -2. This is the third straight day the Approval Index has been below zero (see trends).
A Rasmussen video report notes that 42% now give the President good or excellent marks for handling the economy . That’s his lowest rating to date …
Overall, 53% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance so far. Forty-six percent (46%) disapprove.
Obama has hit a new high among those rating him fair or poor on the economy at 56%. Just a week ago, 47% approved of his economic policies, as opposed to 50% disapproval, a margin of 3% — a statistical dead heat. Obama had been seen more favorable than not on the economy as late as the second week of May, when he held a 51%-48% advantage.
The demographics of his decline portend more bad news for Obama and his Democratic allies in Congress. Only the youngest voters support him on fiscal policy, and only barely, 52%-46%. Every other age demographic above 30 years of age has majorities now showing disapproval. Independents have begun to run away in massive numbers; they now oppose him 75%-23%, a huge break away from Obama and a sign that his supposed moderate stances have been exposed as shams. Every income level except the lowest also has majorities disapproving of his handling of the economy. Voters outside the “political class” oppose Obama 65%-33%.
Obama doesn’t fare well on national security, either. Rasmussen reports that Obama only has 44% approval on these issues, and 55% opposing him. Majorities of both women and men view him disfavorably. Every income level has majorities opposed to Obama, and independents disapprove 68%-31%. Obama only wins within the $60K-$75K income level; even his base of support among the lowest income earners narrowly reject Obama’s national-security policies, 52%-47%.
Obama isn’t just coming back to Earth in the polling. He’s losing independents and demonstrating his radical bent on policy, and more and more Americans have begun to see it.

I am still waiting for when they start polling on the number of Americans who think he is an actual traitor. I put it around 38%, now. I’d also like to see polling on how many think The Precedent is really trying to kill the US. I put that around 45%.

Is this the same number of people who still have jobs and can buy things? Or are these the people getting Stimulus for their Green companies and profit/loss doesn’t matter?
These are the people still in college/grad school with mum and pop paying the bills?
Stupid people. Took you long enough.

This is so depressing. I’m sorry, but the idea that 42% of the people one sees on a daily basis give this guy good or excellent marks on his economic policies is not “good” news in my view.
As for the “independents”…the idea that dolts who can’t choose between liberty and tyranny and stick with it perpetually sit in the catbird’s seat every election cycle just ticks me off. All Obammy needs to do to get back into their good graces is send them a measly check and promise them a pony for Christmas.
Or better yet, a unicorn.

None of these policies will lead anywhere except to misery.
Never in the history of this country has extreme leftism produced prosperity, which will always be the name of the game.
The Dow will drift lower and unemployment will remain high until he cuts tax rates to revive private and corporate spending.
Now the RNC/GOP must put forth an alternative in stark contrast to this mess in 2010. It will be there for the taking.

United Western Bancorp has reported the sale of mortgaged-backed securities with an unpaid principal balance of $47.3 million of lower tranche mortgage backed securities secured primarily by “option-adjustable-rate” mortgage loans (the “Option ARM Securities”) to an unaffiliated third party for $378,000. That means they are taking a 99% loss.
Folks, the banks are holding this junk on their books at par. Well, that is a fraud and a sham. The truth is the big banks hold billions of this junk on their books and they are insolvent. We need mark to market accounting so investors get an accurate picture. Eventually the truth cannot be denied. I heard Donald Trump on television complaining because even wealthy developers can’t get loans for good projects that will create jobs. The banks are not loaning because they know they are sitting on crap collateral. They need every dime to boost their balance sheets in a bid to survive. Most of them probably won’t make it anyway unless the government is now backstopping all bad bets.
My point, just wait until Obama’s numbers don’t get the benefit of all the market pumping that has been going on since he took office.
flyfisher on July 2, 2009 at 1:52 PM

The problem with that theory is that the “young” aren’t really all that keen on “EMPLOYMENT”: they’d rather collect measly “benefits” and play video games.
And as for taxes, well – thanks largely to GW Bush, way over 50% of the young aren’t paying any.
Employment and taxes are only issues for the “rich”…you, know, the yacht-owning, champagne-guzzling two-income families wallowing in their obscene $75,000 plus incomes.

As it becomes more obvious that Obama is incapable of the truth, the only transparency is the lies and deception he uses to disguise his intentions for our country.
volsense on July 2, 2009 at 1:58 PM
It’s because things weren’t as bad in 2004 as the drive-bys wanted everyone to believe. Iraq wasn’t going well, but it hadn’t deteriorated to where it did in 2006(right before the surge turned it around). And the economy was in the midst of the boom of 2003-07. The one area where Bush couldn’t really defend himself was the excessive spending, but Kerry had no credibility in that area.
If 2012’s domestic and foreign situations come close to resembling 2004’s, then yes Obama wins reelection in a walk. But that would require unemployment dropping 4 points from where it is right now and preventing Iran from getting a nuke.
Doughboy on July 2, 2009 at 1:58 PM
In the end it really doesn’t matter why they sold the MBS at a 99% loss. What matters is that banks are sitting on worthless collateral while Americans are being told our banking system is on the road to recovery when “they” (the powers that be) know full well it is a sham.
flyfisher on July 2, 2009 at 1:58 PM

I keep wondering what this waste of skin will do next.
He’s spent trillions and the unemployment numbers are still 9.5%, big surprise/sarc.
He’s taken over the automobile industry, the banking industry, and yet, the banks are still not loaning money, except if you cannot pay it back, and the auto industry still has to pay union leaches.
He’s trying to take over the healthcare industry…why can’t we just HELP OUT the American Citizens that do not have insurance, weed out the illegals and other welfare cheats and make affordable healthcare available to them?
He’s destroying this country for the farce of climate change, formally global warming…
What else can he do? Oh yeah, amnesty to pay back the illegal aliens that voted for him. By then, this will truly be a third world nation.
I hope everyone is up for a fight.
BTW, I have a bunch of liberal friends that are just giggles and happiness over Stuart Smalley as senator….Stupid cannot be fixed.

Upstater85 on July 2, 2009 at 2:05 PM
The 2010 midterms are about 16 months away, right? Based on current policies, trends, and the backlog of financial disasters queued up I think unemployment will still be high (maybe even higher than now), debt will be soaring, and Uncle Sam will be floundering around internationally like a clown with a bucket on one foot and pants full of cream pie — oh and the Donks will have held Congress for 4 years.
Typically when that happens, the party in power gets HAMMERED in the midterms — especially if they hold House, Senate, and Presidency. They won’t be able to (successfully) blame the Pubbies. So lots and lots of people will show up and vote AGAINST the incumbent – and lots of Obamabots will just stay home (the reverse of 2008).

“Slipping” was inevitable — he was at 91% the week after 9/11, 75% the day of the IRaq war, and 65% the day we got Saddam.
His “pre-911″ poll numbers were from 50-60%, and his pre-election poll numbers were from 45-55%, with about 50% exactly near election day. So basically, virtually ALL of the people who liked bush in the summer of 2001 still liked him in the fall of 2004.
WIth Obama, we’ve seen a substantial fall from his “historic” high 60s-January 2009 level already. For Obama to fall to the 40s this soon would be incredible.
