Al Franken’s national net favorable rating pretty much what you’d expect

No, just kidding. At -10, it’s actually quite a bit higher than you’d expect.
Less than a week before Sen.-elect Al Franken (D-Minn.) is set to be sworn into office, a new national poll shows that 44 percent of voters have an unfavorable view of the former comedian and liberal radio host.
A Rasmussen Reports poll released Thursday found that 34 percent have a favorable view of Franken, who defeated former Republican Sen. Norm Coleman to win the seat. Another 22 percent are not sure what they think of him.
The poll revealed that Franken generates strong feelings among his detractors. Twenty-nine percent said they had a “very unfavorable” impression of Franken, compared with just 12 percent who have a “very favorable” view.
Like it or not, this guy’s bound to be our new lightning rod so you might as well familiarize yourself with his oeuvre for easy snarking later, when he inevitably pops off on the Senate floor and the righty blogosphere piles on. Exit question: Why are his national ratings so low? It’s possible, I guess, that more people than we think have been following blog coverage over the years of what a weird, oddly irascible jackass Franken is. It’s also possible that the numbers are driven by conservative reaction to his “Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot” book. Even so, I prefer to interpret it as a referendum on his SNL “Weekend Update” bits. Be honest: Having watched those, would you have a favorable opinion of the guy?

Clinton won because of Ross Perot, voter fraud, and the propaganda that the “republicans are as bad as the democrats” nonsense.
Franken won because of Dean Barkley, massive voter fraud, and the propaganda that the “republicans are as bad as the democrats” nonsense.
Will Franken be able to win reelection? Depends on how big on an asshat he acts while in office, how much pork he can slice off, and if the MN republicans can run an appealing candidate.
Rebar on July 3, 2009 at 12:18 AM
The one advantage he has is that when he casts a “wrong” vote, he can say he was just kidding, it was a joke. And everyone will forgive him…
right2bright on July 3, 2009 at 12:19 AM
Don’t know why either. I mean it’s not like he’s any different from the gaggle of clowns we have in the senate now.

Selected NOT Elected.

Thanks again Minnesota.

Yeah. It’s sort of like your wishful thinking about him being such a great senator. Never said that I got to “hyperventilating” about his Senate seat. It’s like Rush Limbaugh winning a Senate seat. I wouldn’t want him in the Senate either. He’s too out there and wouldn’t work with anybody besides conservative Republicans. After seeing Al Franken and reading about him, I’ve had enough. The guy’s a jerk, and God willing he’s only a one termer who will be beaten in the next primary by the same guy who ran against him last year. Get used to that. :)
And while we’re on the wishful thinking wagon, the facts are actually on my side. I never said that I didn’t want a Dem in the Senate seat, I said that I didn’t want him, and that’s not wishful thinking, it’s reality. And trust me, it’s not far-fetched for him to get in anyone’s face. If you actually read the poll that Allah posted, you would see that he’s already got a THIRTY-FOUR PERCENT APPROVAL RATING and an even bigger disapproval rating. People who know him already know he’s a dick.
On the other side of the “wishful thinking” wagon, we’ve got Obama’s falling approval rating, a majority of people against his economic handling, and new polls coming out with Republicans ahead in the economic handling category. That’s not wishful thinking. It’s the facts! Get used to it!

2nd. Worst. Person. in. the. World.
locomotivebreath1901 on July 3, 2009 at 1:00 AM
Watch out. Franken’s friend Olbermann might sue you for using his “Worst People in the World” category. Or is it “Worst Person of the Day?” Oh well, he’s a nutbag, that’s all that matters.
NathanG on July 3, 2009 at 1:07 AM
The perception that he stole the election.

Guys, seriously, the American People will see now what this Congress has become: a total convention of clowns. He’s just the red ball on the nose, the final facial makeup.
How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?

At this point, I wonder what has happened to the American people that he could EVER get in office in the first place. It is a pox on American History that I hope is over swiftly.

Can’t wait for the first “Franken blows up on the Senate floor” video on YouTube.

Dr. Krauthammer is on your same line of thinking. After November, he said something like, “Before Election Day, I had faith in the American People, that they would see what is at stake. Now, I’m not so sure.”

Further proof that Republicans mus win by a landslide to overcome dem fraud.

Congratulations, Democrats. You now have a mascot in the Senate. From now on, you can officially be referred to as “Al Franken Democrats” in campaign ads, and watch as the picture of him in a diaper with rabbit ears is used, over and over again, as the emblem of the current Congress.
So, who’s putting together the pool on when and with whom he first loses his temper on the Senate floor? I say less than a month after he’s sworn in, he goes after Inhofe. Predictions?
Fallen Sparrow on July 3, 2009 at 2:21 AM
I’m sorry but this is COLEMAN’S FAULT.
He lost by only 300 VOTES!
HAD NORM NOT VOTED FOR THE BAILOUT LAST OCTOBER I KNOW HE WOULD HAVE WHOPPED FRANKIN BY AT LEAST 1,000 TO 2,000 VOTES IF NOT 2% TO 3%
Norm sadly did this to himself. Once he voted for the 700 BILLION BAILOUT…he was doomed. Proof? Didn’t the 3rd Party Libertarian get at least 300,000 votes?
rednebulastudios on July 3, 2009 at 3:29 AM
I think it’s due to the fact that everyone knows Al Franken is a gigantic jackass. I mean, most people have seen him on TV or heard him on the radio. Jesse Ventura, now this. Minnesota sure loves them some douche bag.
Seixon on July 3, 2009 at 4:28 AM
I think Franken joining this group perfectly symbolize the fact that Congress as a whole is populated by CLOWNS.
Jeff from WI on July 3, 2009 at 6:21 AM
He’s not funny. Simple as that.
You can be as big a douche as you want, but if you’re funny people say, “Oh, that’s just Funny McFunnerson being funny!” Franken knows this and his jackassery is directly proportional to how funny he imagines himself to be.
He imagines wrong.
Lehosh on July 3, 2009 at 6:43 AM
Franken is as funny as a train collision, but there are those in society that seem to be easy to amuse. Frank plays to that 13 year old maturity level of comedy.
Jeff from WI on July 3, 2009 at 6:45 AM
For so long I’ve been wondering how a clown like Franken could be so close to getting elected, then ultimately get elected, to a senate seat in the first place. Maybe I’ve been seeing it all wrong. Maybe the real blame falls on Coleman?
pugwriter on July 3, 2009 at 7:26 AM
No, the problem is the people of Minnesota. They evidently treat the office of Gov. & Senator as a joke. They can’t be taken seriously. I’d say let Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands have their Senate seats. THey evidently don’t need them.
Jeff from WI on July 3, 2009 at 7:51 AM
Hey, hey. We’re not ALL crazy — just half of us.
Yes, it is ridiculous that MN would elect Al Franken (just writing it seems ridiculous), but the fact, there are just as many unhappy people in MN with Franken winning as there would have been with Coleman winning.
Opine: Coleman was such a great guy. He was my only congressman to reply to every congress.org email I sent out. The democratic senator did not emit as much as a peep. I have a new (R) representative who is even quicker than Norm…so not all is lost.
Aronne on July 3, 2009 at 8:16 AM
Don’t blame Minnesota. A majority of them voted against Franken. And he got in through creative and probably illegal gaming of the vote recount. Possible Franken votes were treated more favorably that possible Coleman votes.
Remember Coleman was ahead by hundreds of votes before the Demorats’ games began.

That “we” doesn’t mean us ha commenters, it means his grenwich village friends. More glaring proof that allah is a liberal snob. They think that Americans, mainly conservative Americans, are all stupid and uninformed. They think they are so much smarter then the rest of us and so much more capable of processing information. That’s why moron hollywood types and rock stars make such stupid, condescending statements. allah is just a little bit smarter then your average actor and can be more subtle about his distaste for normal Americans, such as Gov. Palin, but he still thinks he is far above the rest of us great unwashed.

And that’s how they sent a nation of islam soldier to congress and elcted jesse ventura and designate public charter schools for the teaching of sharia where they won’t fly the American flag and give supra-rights to immigrants from islamic countries. Because they are just victims in minnesota and can’t be blamed?
peacenprosperity on July 3, 2009 at 8:35 AM
Oh yeah? Well he’s from Harvard so the public can go kiss his ass. As far as the boys on the hill go, he’s a card carrying oligarch.

It’s hard to completely blame Minnesota when my state elects 2 DEMS , One is one of “Barneys Boys” and only wins because he owns a basketball team. He’s a bit less harmless because I don’t think he does anything but sleep in Congress. The other is the Uber-Communist from the Moscow On The Mendota, Madison WI, our own expert in campaign finance laws and the MOST liberal Senator..Russ “I Love Lenin & Marx” Feingold.
Geez..only two Jews in the whole state and we elect them both as Senator (just kidding so lighten up)
Jeff from WI on July 3, 2009 at 9:53 AM
All true, but you left one out-Clinton won because of journalistic fraud, just like O’bama did.
In Clinton’s case, the “objective” media refused to report the economic recovery, which according to the Fed began in March of 1991, a full 18 months before the election. By keeping it quiet, Clinton was able to brainwash the sheeple with his “it’s the economy, stupid” hogwash.
In a 2000 editorial, the NY Fishwrap admitted that said economic recovery was “unrecognized at the time”. What they really meant was that it was “unreported at the time”.
Goebbels would be proud of all of them.

Quit picking on MN!Franken won because the Obamabots that voted for the first time voted straight Dem ticket. Many republicans didn’t come out to vote. Throw 3rd party candidate into the mix, and Franken was able to steal the election. Once our election went into recount, Coleman didn’t have a chance. The dems had control of the recount. His only chance was to take it to the Federal level, but he decided not to.
conservativegrandma on July 3, 2009 at 11:18 AM
That’s the part I still don’t get. Why did that idiot bother to challenge it but quit at the point where he actually had a chance? (I mean did he think he was going to all of a sudden get a fair shake all of sudden for no reason when up to this point this thing was more rigged than a 7 masted schooner?) He might have had a chance in federal court but not in the state court.

To demonstrate his contempt for the Roman Senate, Caligula made his horse a Senator. To demonstrate their contempt for America and American institutions, Minnesotans made this creature a U.S. Senator.
The citizens of this failed State have committed an unparalleled outrage and have spit in the face of every brave American soldier who died for their freedom.
It is time to expell the state of Minnesota from the Union and put every Minnesota citizen on a watch list to be barred from entering the United States of America ever again.
These people are despicable and below even our rankest contempt.
