Video: The sadly obligatory “Sharpton grinds on woman at Jacko tribute” clip

Look on the bright side. Compared to some of the behavior we’ve seen at other Jacko tributes, this is downright dignified.

Photos here. I’m … so sorry.

LOL!

bridgetown on July 1, 2009 at 8:45 PM

His dancing style is a cross between James Brown and Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

milwife88 on July 1, 2009 at 8:47 PM

You know you do

blatantblue on July 1, 2009 at 8:11 PM

What are you trying to say?

txag92 on July 1, 2009 at 8:52 PM

Ah, the good Reverend. WWJD, Al?

RightWinged on July 1, 2009 at 9:11 PM

I read somewhere that Michelle obama was going to make a showing at this event..And ya know…she inst a half bad dancer!

(all bad, yes..half bad, no.)

Handel on July 1, 2009 at 9:37 PM

Gag.
I saw this yesterday. Just the screenshot was so repulsive that I couldn’t bring myself to watch the video.

Puke.

petefrt on July 1, 2009 at 10:14 PM

To be fair. Sharpton is a bad dancer. But, he did back away from the harlet.

watson007 on July 1, 2009 at 10:15 PM

Dancing, like sex, is lots of fun to do but looks really stupid.

PattyJ on July 1, 2009 at 10:24 PM

I’ve been looking at this pic on Drudge for three days now and will not watch the video. I have bad enough eyes and really don’t want to go blind.

I don’t expect mass mourning for celebrities or entertainers. I also don’t understand it. I don’t get the need to put teddy bears, notes and flowers out for people that I do not know.

myrenovations on July 1, 2009 at 7:27 PM

Michael Jackson’s accomplishments separate him from other celebrities. He sold out the 50 date tour he was going to do before he died in five hours (750,000 tickets). Name an entertainer today that can do that (no one). Here’s a bit of a response that someone posted on another web site that sums up to people who don’t understand the impact of Michael Jackson’s death had on people.

As to mourning celebrities I think for the most part it’s mourning a part of your own life rather than the celebrity themselves. We associate celebrities and celebrity events with parts of our own histories – those of us who remember waiting to see Thriller on TV the first time it aired for example, it was a real event and most of us inextricably link that night, those feelings, to a happier time in our younger lives. Same goes for Farrah Fawcett, Dom DeLuise and on and on. We didn’t know the celebrities, we only knew of media snapshots which is certainly not the same thing so how can we genuinely mourn for them? We are actually mourning what their contributions meant to US.”

The Rev. can’t dance like this Dancing Machine. (Watch at the 1:21 mark.)

Part of the Rev’s community outreach program.

I’ve worked with grieving families in the funeral industry for over 20 years. Most families celebrate the life of a loved one in ways a little different than the good “Reverand”. Any way to turn a buck on the back of a person who can no longer speak for themselves. Classy Reverand Sharpton.

MalindaH on July 1, 2009 at 11:20 PM

I was looking forward to dumping on Sharpton for lewd behavior, but I think he gets credit for backing away at the appropriate moment.

greggriffith on July 1, 2009 at 11:30 PM

What?! He didn’t grind on anybody. He was dancing and backed off when the woman went ghetto on him.
I watched it more than once and don’t see what you people are seeing.
He was dancing, having a good time….wtf?

bridgetown on July 1, 2009 at 7:07 PM

Word. He’s strictly old-school so he was trying to get the bump going. She, being younger, thought he wanted to freak dance, and that’s when he put it in reverse. Y’all need to get out more.

smellthecoffee on July 2, 2009 at 12:08 AM

Soul mates.

Shy Guy on July 2, 2009 at 12:20 AM

They can’t help themselves.
The clergy, that is.
No sane man will dance.

Darn, there goes coffee on the computer screen…LOL

Jeff from WI on July 2, 2009 at 6:24 AM

Lol.

Well…as an attendee of a black church, there’s sometimes an admitted VERY thin line between the dancing in the aisles and the dancing in the clubs…Often people are just replacing shouts of “Hell Yeah!” for “Hallelujah”

bluelightbrigade on July 2, 2009 at 8:42 AM

Sharpton’s a goofbag and I’m not thrilled about defending him, but that was hardly “grinding”. There was nothing inappropriate about that clip.

orange on July 2, 2009 at 9:37 AM

Are you kidding us with this AP? I can’t stand Sharpton but there is no grinding at all in this vid. You look petty putting this up.

kongzilla on July 2, 2009 at 10:23 AM

hmmm. looks like Al’s partner was about to do a little “scat” (as in scatalogical) dance number on the floor. eeewwww!

max1 on July 2, 2009 at 11:03 AM

Yeah…. that’s my kind of reverend of the cloth. Why do the media types insist on calling him “reverend’? Ooops. I forgot. Lending stature to a lunatic is part of the deal with the state run media.

kens on July 2, 2009 at 1:16 PM

I’d make a comment regarding this but I’d b e tagged a “racist” by some “sensitive” people in here.

Jeff from WI on July 1, 2009 at 7:15 PM

Why worry about what others call you? If your convictions are true, their labels are unimportant. Or are you just a big ole’ wuss?

Why is everything about the black culture always come down to sex? At a funeral? Pathetic.

Andy in Agoura Hills on July 1, 2009 at 7:51 PM

Nice stereotype.
