Video: More Palin-bashing from the media

It hardly will move the Shock-O-Meter for most people on the Right, but since this came during what has been described as MS-NBC’s “conservative” three hours, it’s worth a look. Mike Allen of Politico, Willy Geist, and Joe Scarborough tag-team off of Vanity Fair’s ho-hum hit piece on Sarah Palin to throw a bunch of rehashed ad hominem attacks at Palin. “Joke,” “circus act,” “Dan Quayle” all appear as the three men get their 3:45 Hate in today’s show:

Mike Allen acts especially perturbed by the fact that — ohmygosh — people still actually want her to appear at fundraisers! He says this in the same tone of voice he might use in describing the Flat Earth Society or a reported chupacabra sighting.  None of these men offer a reason for Palin to go into hiding and wear a political burqa except for their ad hominems, or explain why a governor of any state doesn’t belong at fundraisers for their political party.  California just went broke; do you think these men would tell Arnold Schwarzenegger to stay home and out of fundraisers until they stop issuing IOUs?  Do you think any of these three would dare?

Patrick Hynes makes a great point about the source of the latest anti-Palin nuttiness — the McCain staffers who keep wanting to shift blame off of themselves:

Look, I worked on the McCain campaign. Palin had her shortcomings, but she also brought some incredible strengths to the campaign. And perhaps the McCain staffers who continue to trash the governor are deflecting attention away from how remarkably screwed up and dysfunctional the operation was even before the Palin pick. What I don’t understand is this: Why would anyone hire a bunch of campaign staffers after watching how viciously they are attacking their former employer?

I’m pretty sure none of the obvious sources on this story will work on national campaigns again, not after the backbiting and disloyalty they’ve put on display for the rest of the world to see.

She’s not a circus act, they are promoting her as one and they are trying to do the same with Michelle Bachmann. I see people who are uncomfortable with their masculinity.

Cindy Munford on July 1, 2009 at 8:53 AM

The objective for everybody appalled at the socialist takeover of DC by a Chicago street thug turned despot SHOULD be taking back the Congress in 2010. That is tough enough without worrying about Palin’s role in 2012 or how she is treated by a hostile press. As things are going right now, Obama isn’t even going to allow a 2012 Presidential election unless it is one of those elections like the one that just took place in Iran (i.e. where the outcome is certain).

Face it, we have a dictator in power who in six months has nationalized the auto industry and siezed the banks. He is on his way to taking over healthcare and acting on a whole range of social issues that most Americans disagree with but are powerless to stop without thwarting the evil one’s hold on Congress. Now with a super-majority in the Senate, this corrupt administration will be even more emboldened in their quest to destroy and re-make America into a worker’s paradise.

Everyone needs to keep their eyes on that ball and not be so concerned about Palin right now. She’s a big girl and can fend for herself.

Doesn’t matter what the lady does the MSM and Golf Club are on a four year mission to destroy her. Sarah will have to make a mighty swing of the bat to silence them.

Limerick on July 1, 2009 at 8:53 AM

I saw it this morning. Whatever little goodwill I still had for Joe S. is now gone.

On one hand, he said she has been Dan Quayled… that first impressions matter and can’t be overcome. He THEN goes on to state she should go back to Alaska and disappear. Now HOLD ON JUST A MINUTE. If you think she has been Quayled and has no political future (nationally) then what the hell do you care what she does? If you believe her goose is cooked, then it shouldn’t matter to you what the hell she does.

The idiocy of these people continues to amaze me.

The blame-shifting will hopefully be the final nail in the coffin of political careers for those who “guided” her, then put the knife in her back from the shadows.

As Hynes noted, she had her flaws. All candidates do. That’s why they need an accomplished staff to shore up their weaknesses and highlight their strengths. Her team (with McCain) failed at this basic task.

That’s a good point. All this Palin bashing means two things(aside from the fact that she terrifies them): 1) Obama’s popularity is in the middle of a nosedive and 2) Bush’s usefulness as the quintessential devil for the Democrats has expired.

You get the feeling that if the big media and the left had their way, Alaska would be America’s Siberia and Sarah Palin would be exiled their for live, like in the (in some of their minds, good old) days of the Soviet Union.

cs89 on July 1, 2009 at 8:57 AM

McCain’s team didn’t even do that with McCain. His incoherence on economic issues should have been dealt with. He had eight years from 2000 to plan for a run and get to understand and articulate basic economic programs. Instead he just shrugged and said the economy was not his strong point. And then ran back to Washington to “help” with the credit crisis he didn’t understand.

Wethal on July 1, 2009 at 9:00 AM

I agree, I’d never support a candidate that hired these people. They only have themselves to blame. But I believe this is an effort to boost Obama, after all his polls are falling and no one likes his policies once they learn what they are about. He needs the media distraction to focus on Palin and away from cap and trade

The fact that the State Run Media is controlled by the DNC, and they can’t stop their pathetic attacks on Sarah and her family, is a direct indication that they fear Sarah more than any other opponent.

The fact that every RINO politician and media head can’t stop attacking Sarah and her family is a direct indication that they fear Sarah more than any other politician. I must believe this bunch fears Sarah due to her promise to clean up DC and the corruption that grips that city. God forbid that these worthless POS actually are forced to do the work of the people rather than wine and dine while enriching themselves at the expense of the people.

If Sarah decides to run for potus in 2012, she will have the support of my family 100%…

Keemo on July 1, 2009 at 9:03 AM

Gee, if she’s that incompetent and ineffectual, why spend the time trashing her?

One political axiom is to not do anything when your opposition is harming himself. These jokers have been around long enough to know that, so to continue to trash the good governor means that they do see her as a threat.

Wethal on July 1, 2009 at 9:00 AM

No kidding. I don’t know if McCain ever had a chance last election. The drive-bys did everything in their power to get Obama elected and let’s be honest. Bush was extremely unpopular, the GOP had done a lousy job from 2000-2006, and there was a conveniently timed economic “crisis” that completly changed to tone of the campaign.

All that being said, McCain has no excuse for pu$$yfooting around all the sensitive topics that could’ve put a dent in Obama’s popularity(i.e. Wright, Ayers, abortion, lack of experience, Annenberg Challenge, Rezko). And he should be ashamed of himself for his utter incompetence in articulating fiscal conservatism. Even Bush was able to pull that off.

Mike Allen feigns melodrama in his breathless reporting on the Palin hit piece. Breathless and melodramatic because the Vanity Fair piece is fluff.

Left-wing sexism grows in strength every day. The Left hates women, especially those who choose life.

Does anyone take Joe Scarborough seriously? He’s a Republican yes-man. You know that if he had been in the McCain campaign, he would have been the source of the leaks.

No, nobody gives a rat’s you know what about Joe. No one watches his show. Nobody bought his book. And nobody takes anything he says seriously.

What they fear about Palin is that she’s a grassroots candidate. If/when she gets the nomination, it will be because of everyday Americans who volunteered their time, money, and energy into her candidacy. Which means if/when she ascends to the Presidency, she won’t be beholden to any special interests or lobbies. In other words, business as usual in DC really will be in jeopardy of coming to an end. Anyone who’s a member of the current establishment, be it the Dems, the GOP, or the media, has reason to be concerned.

At that point, she will start getting some of that Strange New Respect.

The format of those interviews was screwy to say the least. Why couldn’t Mccain campaign arrange for a 10-15 min live interview as her wolf Blitzer interview was?

The campaign in fact bought MSM’s narrative that she wasn’t vetted and threw her into a pit of lions without any reason or excuse.

Even if you know Palin couldn’t do interviews well, a smart campaign would try n figure out a way to minimize it not increase the damage.

promachus on July 1, 2009 at 9:16 AM

The McCain Campaign screwed up the initial interviews, sure enough. By keeping Palin in the bubble, they hieghtened anticipoation and let the media hounds sharpen up their knives.

The day after Palin’s speech, she should have been on every morning show, for a no-holds barred session. People were very excited about her, and the shows would have treated her with a little more respect. If there were a few minor mis-steps, it would have been no big deal, because it was all spur-of-the-moment.

But every tiny mistake in the Gibson was a big deal, because people said she had three weeks to prepare, and she still made mistakes. They were not prepared to accept her as she was, an intelligent and accomplished governor of a rural state. Suddenly, after three weeks study, she had to be and expert on everything and every gotcha question.

gridlock2 on July 1, 2009 at 9:22 AM

The funny thing about this whole situation is the fact that the more the establishment pile on the stronger the support for Sarah Palin grows amongst average voters. There is only one person who can stop Sarah Palin and that person is Sarah Palin herself.

Dreadnought223 on July 1, 2009 at 9:24 AM

I find it funny that these men are so scared of a woman.

EnochCain on July 1, 2009 at 9:18 AM

They are not scared of a woman. They are scared that their god may be diminished if not removed by a dynamic and popular person. She is a threat to the promised socialist utopia that will be brought forth by the One.

jmarcure on July 1, 2009 at 9:24 AM

Scarborough’s comparison of Palin to Qualye was absurd.

Mike Allen is a douchebag. He ruins what otherwise might not be a half-bad sentence. The guy can get through a short morning segment without tying is tongue around a poll. He’s almost as poor a public speaker as the WaPo columnist Morning Joe digs up every week–Eugene Robinson. As a practical matter, Allen and Robinson are cringe-inducing on delivery alone–and that’s before you evaluate what those morons are actually saying.

BuckeyeSam on July 1, 2009 at 9:24 AM

President Palin would have been a trillion times better for America than the Obama administration is on EVERY point.

It is the unnamed powers that be who campaign against America, who promote Palin’s destruction, who own Obama.

maverick muse on July 1, 2009 at 9:25 AM

Joe should have written his book about Palin and put her picture on the corver. It would have actually sold copies then.

I couldn’t make it past 20 sec. or so of “Mike Allen of Politico”. Who the hell is he and why should he ruin my morning with his Hi! Hi! and that smile/smirk – did he just wriggle his nose at me?

It is so blatant they use this Governor, unlike the other 49, to make a name for themselves.

Marcus on July 1, 2009 at 9:29 AM

If you take out Palins name and replace it with Ochimpy’s, those statements are more apropos. The only difference is the MSM. Ochimpy is their darling even though he is an inexperienced vacuous empty suit. Even that idiot Joe Biden is treated with kid gloves by the media.

Conservatives need to start taking journalism courses so we can decimate the liberal bias in the media and replace it with honorable people who will tell the truth irrespective of politics.

csdeven on July 1, 2009 at 9:29 AM

I could care less about that public-access channel specifically designed to get GE big green contracts by kissing Dear Leaders ass.
The story these stooges won’t be able to ignore is the double digit unemployment and crashing revenues.
Everything else is garbage and they know it- so you get sideshows from an owned media to blunt this disaster-good luck with that.

jjshaka on July 1, 2009 at 9:30 AM

Can I clue you people in on something I found out from a Well Placed Source in Florida Politics?

His show is top of the charts on a dying network.

His events in Florida pack the house.

He is the only mouthpiece on MSNBC that comes close to criticizing Teh One on the Air.

Joe Scarborough will run for the Republican Nomination for President.

What he is doing now is called Positioning. His book is Positioning. It’s a Campaign Document. Like the “Audacity of Hope”.

He has no incentive to treat Palin fairly.

When you listen to Joe, remember what I tell you here.

victor82 on July 1, 2009 at 9:31 AM

Her first interviews were trainwrecks no matter what level of hostility in the questioning.

if by watching the edited interview(where Gibson asked a question [then ABC edited this part out where she answered, he asked a follow up, and she answered that and ABC finishes their clip with Sarah's last part of her answer]) then yes..

if by reading the unedited transcript.. then no.

In regards to these three putz’s…it is obviously a case of ‘Vagina Envy’ !

Palin bashing at the Politico gets top billing; stories such as this one goes unreported.

FU Politico!!!

Men fear her – they truly fear her. (lefty women are just so shrewish and barren they just exhibit petty jealousy; wow, see how progressive they are/).

The men still want women in the kitchen and the bedroom, not the boardroom or the white house. God forbid emotions come into play. (those are okay for the supreme court latina woman, but not Palin as she is fertile not barren like sonia).

Eight months after the election and they are STILL acting like whiney baby pu**ies – I FRIGGIN LOVE THIS WOMAN. May every liberal head explode like a melon and may the ogabe’s have public mental breakdowns and magically disappear.

Ris4victory on July 1, 2009 at 9:33 AM

Don’t get me started on that pandering old fool McCain if’n you ever needed a posterboy for what is wrong with the GOP take a good look at that good old boy and ask where was the fight, fight, fight?
Was the fool fighting when he suspended his campaign went to D.C. and rather than back capitalism and conservatives signed onto the biggest money grab, Dem bailout in US history?

Please, when Sarah recharged the party McDipsh.. attached himself to her like a leech and even interrupted her in interviews with his stupid pandering answers.

He is a miserable old codger who should be voted out of office NOW!

However honorable McCain may have once been he has been nothing but a foolish Democrat Tool in his last 15 years of service to HIMSELF.

Another Palin bashin thread another donation goes to SarahPac, same for the E-mail McDipsh.. sent me asking for supoport in his Senate run.
I guess he thought that donation was for him, well it wasn’t it was for Sarah a real fighter!

dhunter on July 1, 2009 at 9:33 AM

McCain is the reason they lost, not Palin.

roux on July 1, 2009 at 9:34 AM

Earth to Joe! Come in Joe! Are you there!

I used to think Joe had a good, common sense head on his shoulders. He is very quickly becoming Mika.

Joe! Run quickly to the light before it’s too late!

Right the f*** on my friend!

Keemo on July 1, 2009 at 9:36 AM

Poor Joe. While Levin and Beck’s books are burning up over at Amazon.com, his is at #705. He has even had to drag poor Mika along with him on his book tour. They can attract a crowd of 200. Gov. Palin can attract a crowd of 20,000. Yeah, she’s a real joke. Nobody likes her at all.
If she is so damned incompetent and stupid, why the OBSESSION with her?

Babino on July 1, 2009 at 9:36 AM

I can’t wait to see the SarahPac numbers

BPD on July 1, 2009 at 9:36 AM

Morning everyone –

It is clear that we MUST, MUST, MUST change the republican primary system or we are going to get another crappy candidate like McCain chosen by the left-side of the political spectrum in both parties. Is the GOP working on this faulty primary system? Republicans should not be allowing open primaries in democratic states – especially in the early primaries.

So true! Emails by the thousands to Michael Steele are in order.

Keemo on July 1, 2009 at 9:38 AM

Palin is a gigantic threat to the political and media elite because she is the titular head of the Republican/independant/conservative movement (sorry Rush) and they know it.

They know she will be the voice of the PEOPLE like never before.

The Americans who are feeling such terrible fear and angst will overwhelm the news cycle if/when Sarah finally takes it to the streets.

She’s smart. She is lying low, letting the dirt fly, teasing the media with a few good jabs and then retreats to observe.

Remember folks, this women is a hunter…. need I say more.
