With the high energy costs here, you too would reduce your energy consumption to try to save a buck or two.

Remember when Obama said he would like to see high gas prices, that the only trouble is they went up too fast (which made people angry). Raise energy costs and people will cut back, but that is not exactly due to energy-efficiency policies.

More efficient appliances and more energy-efficient housing standards have helped some, but as Ed rightly points out, we haven't exactly been on a job creation binge here in CA over the last decade.

Ok. Obama thinks California has economy that is producing jobs and keeping pace with the rest of the country, etc., and we should emulate it?

Er, does he think we don't watch the news?

Keep an eye on California as this is exactly what Obama intends. In spite of popular vote against raising any more taxes, the legislature will compromise and drive more people out, except that eventually there will be no where to go because Obama will have taken this experiment nationwide in the next few years. Not an Obamatuerism, an omen.

You know, I used to think it was just the people in Hollywood who made stuff up and then believed the "good story" they concocted must actually be true because it sounded right (to them).

We now have the Peter Pan President -all you have to do is believe and you can fly! Its the only way Tinkerbell can be saved! Believe!

“In the late 1970s, the state of California enacted tougher energy-efficiency policies,”

That is why it is in the trouble it is in right now.

Does anybody remember the rolling blackouts in California that they tried to blame on Texas? If they had enough power plants, they wouldn't have needed Texas.

By the way, in that energy consumption figure, did they count all the wildfires that provide heat to tinderbox homes perched on cliffs, add to the state's carbon footprint, and decrease the state's natural oxygen production rate?

while only 1.44 million people from elsewhere moved to the Golden State,

"elsewhere" being Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, etc.

But hey, why not chase out your producers and welcome in millions of unskilled, Spanish-speaking, elementary school drop-outs? How could that possibly harm the state's economy?

OBAMA THE USURPER.

Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), the longest serving Democratic senator, is criticizing President Obama’s appointment of White House “czars” to oversee federal policy, saying these executive positions amount to a power grab by the executive branch.

In a letter to Obama on Wednesday, Byrd complained about Obama’s decision to create White House offices on health reform, urban affairs policy, and energy and climate change. Byrd said such positions “can threaten the Constitutional system of checks and balances. At the worst, White House staff have taken direction and control of programmatic areas that are the statutory responsibility of Senate-confirmed official

Californians use less per capita energy but this is the state of the rolling brown-outs.
curved space on July 1, 2009 at 3:00 PM

Couldn't that also be partially attributed to all the industrial users that have left the state.
And,how about all the furnaces that don't have to run in all those homes during winter months? At least as much as they do elsewhere.

Obama's shooting for a broken clock argument here: just because California sucks at everything else doesn't mean that they're wrong about their energy policy. As much as I love the thought of saving the environment (when it doesn't involve this global warming/climate change nonsense), I can't get behind Obama's reasoning in light of the stats Ed has provided.

What I am hoping for is that there will be a taxpayer revolt

Well yeah, that's what we're all praying for. And it's the only thing that will work. When do we start? First the 7/4 tea parties (there's one scheduled in NYC for tonight at 6:30), then coordinated sick-outs and general strikes. The taxpayers can close down America whenever they choose to by simply staying home at the same time.

Come cap-and-trade and we will all be where's-the-juice Californians.
