I say we refuse to negotiate!

It’s been a while since we last heard from Cynthia McKinney, but today we discover that she’s … well, in the same place as six months ago.  McKinney tried running the Israeli blockade on Gaza and got captured, along with her crew.  Now she demands her release, while the Israelis make the completely understandable case that they don’t want her a minute longer than necessary (via Yid with Lid):

Former U.S. lawmaker and Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney, whose relief boat was seized by an Israeli naval ship Tuesday for the second time in a year, is demanding the immediate release of her and 20 other activists.

McKinney, a longtime supporter of Palestinians, said her Greek-flagged boat, the Spirit of Humanity, was carrying medical supplies, cement, olive trees and children’s toys to Gaza when it was boarded by the Israeli navy.

“This is an outrageous violation of international law against us,” said McKinney. “Our boat was not in Israeli waters and we were on a human rights mission to the Gaza Strip. President Obama just told Israel to let in humanitarian and reconstruction supplies, and that’s exactly what we tried to do. We’re asking the international community to demand our release so we can resume our journey.”

Well, President Obama is not president of Israel.  He doesn’t get to dictate policy to Jerusalem, although Obama himself might think that he can.  The Israelis do allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, but through closely secured transit points that allow them to keep out weapons, especially rockets that get launched from Gaza at cities in southern Israel.  Running a blockade carries with it the risk of arrest — or worse — and announcing your intention to run the blockade (as McKinney does in this statement) is certainly enough reason to stop the Spirit of Humanity before it succeeds.

In fact, the Israelis warned McKinney and her crew to stay out of Gaza waters.  They ignored the radio warning and proceeded towards Gaza until the Israeli navy intercepted them and forced them into an Israeli port.  Israel also said that they would send the goods McKinney transported into Gaza as soon as it checked out as safe.

The Israelis, meanwhile, have already tired of McKinney:

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said Israel was planning to free the crew and passengers.

“Nobody wants to keep them here,” he said. “They will be released as soon as they are checked.”

We feel your pain, Yigal.

What the hell is a ‘international community?’

These people are batSh#$ crazy.

daesleeper on July 1, 2009 at 12:17 PM

Instead of intercepting the boat, why not blow it out of the water? They’ll have been warned twice and the third time should be the final attempt.

I’m sure Israel can handle the UN rebuke over the unfortunate incident.

myrenovations on July 1, 2009 at 12:17 PM

Hey Israel, please do us and the rest of a country a great big favor.

Find a nice, secluded, deserted island, somewhere off all known charts and maps.

Deposit Cynthia McKinney and her loony entourage on its shores with sufficient food, water, and supplies.

Then turn the boat around, leave them there, and just forget the whole thing ever happened.

We will be forever in your debt.

pilamaye on July 1, 2009 at 12:17 PM

Or to paraphrase the guy in The Fifth Element“where’d she learn to negotiate like that?”

Shy Guy on July 1, 2009 at 12:22 PM

Dear Israel,

Do not return Cynthia McMoonbat to the United States or we will consider it an act of war. As an alternative, as she is so concerned about the Palestinians, you may want to release her into Gaza.

Thank you for your attention,

The (rational) American People.

McKinney and her idiot father have screamed against Jews and Israel for years, which eventually cost her political office.
I think the Israelis should let her go to Gaza, and then never let her leave. The world would be a better place. LOL

Star20 on July 1, 2009 at 12:49 PM

Cynthia McKinney has every right to go on humanitarian missions to Gaza. We should not be attacking her for merely doing what she thinks is right. It’s also not right for us to attack her using her race, gender, outward physical appearance (including hair), political views, body order/lack of proper hygiene.

(New and improved JEFF from WI will no longer anger those ultra sensitive people in here with any further crude (in their eyes), remarks. I also do not want to cause anyone to start crying again)

President Obama just told Israel to let in humanitarian and reconstruction supplies, and that’s exactly what we tried to do.

I am speechless.

bloggless on July 1, 2009 at 12:52 PM

I just wish someone would plant a crate of AK’s or something on her ship next time she tries to run the blockade. That way the Israelis would have grounds to throw her into some deep dark hole somewhere thus reliving the world of a royal pain in the ass.

Dreadnought223 on July 1, 2009 at 12:53 PM

Here’s what I want. I want Cynthia McKinney to stick like glue to President Barack Obama.
I want her at his side at every function, every speech, every dinner. I want her to answer any questions as President Obama’s official spokesperson.
Why?
Because she is outwardly what he is inwardly. Meaning that she represents who he actually is.
If the real Obama were shown to the public, he would be as unelectable as Cynthia McKinney. That’s what I want.

Doug on July 1, 2009 at 12:53 PM
