Helen Thomas goes nuclear on White House again: “What the hell do they think we are, puppets?”

I know any and all criticism of The One from the left is to be welcomed with Strange New Respect, but … I just can’t muster it, guys. Not for Aunt Bethany.
It’s okay. Leave me behind and go on without me.
“Nixon didn’t try to do that,” Thomas said. “They couldn’t control (the media). They didn’t try.
“What the hell do they think we are, puppets?” Thomas said. “They’re supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants. We pay them.”
Thomas said she was especially concerned about the arrangement between the Obama Administration and a writer from the liberal Huffington Post Web site. The writer was invited by the White House to President Obama’s press conference last week on the understanding that he would ask Obama a question about Iran from among questions that had been sent to him by people in Iran.
“When you call the reporter the night before you know damn well what they are going to ask to control you,” Thomas said.
“I’m not saying there has never been managed news before, but this is carried to fare-thee-well–for the town halls, for the press conferences,” she said. “It’s blatant. They don’t give a damn if you know it or not. They ought to be hanging their heads in shame.”
As I understand it, HuffPo was told that they’d be called on for a question from Iran but weren’t asked in advance what the question would be. In which case, what’s her problem? Wasn’t she, in fact, traditionally the first reporter called on at the daily briefing until fairly recently? Now the AP’s the first to be called on, as Gibbs himself noted earlier today. What’s the difference between HuffPo knowing the night before that they’ll get to ask a question and Helen Thomas or the AP knowing?

I think the Press is finally coming down off its Hopium high.
Obama if he fails will be the biggest threat to liberalism since Jimmy Carter. The democrats are starting to be afraid of him failing.
Sad to say the country has to go through hell to learn that Obama was a tragic mistake to make.
William Amos on July 1, 2009 at 8:17 PM
I never thought I would cheer Helen Thomas but it is about time the even the liberal press takes on Obozo! Go Helen!
I’ve been waiting for the liberal media to finally realize how strung along they have been by this loser!
FINALLY!!!

Helen made the point that the president knew the question would be about Iran.
She is right, this is blatant manipulation and this woman has certainly been around long enough to know it when she sees it.

She questioned the “ONE”

Why, yes, Helen. Glad you finally woke up.
They think you are puppets because YOU ACTS LIKE THEIR PUPPETS. EVERY DAY.
We were beginning to wonder when the Press was going to start wearing Obama symbols on their lapels at the pressers.

I am glad the exchange happened today. I just hope that it continues but on the issues, not technicalities of whom are being called on and in what order. Whichever paper has a reporter that starts asking the right questions will be rewarded in circulation/money.

Like I said before, screw you, Helen. Obama is YOUR guy. You and your friends delivered him to the nation on your knees, with the white stuff dribbling down your generous, wrinkled, Marxist chin. Don’t whine now just because your boyfriend found himself a younger whore with a bigger audience.
Rational Thought on July 1, 2009 at 8:23 PM
You got no one to blame but yourself, Helen. And that goes for the rest of the drive-bys as well. Well, except for Tapper. He’s been professional for the most part.
The rest of the media has been acting like a bunch of pathetic groupies. “What about this job has been the most enchanting?” That’s what passes for journalism today?! Stories about dogs and toned arms and date nights in NYC? And they wonder why Rush and Fox News are dominating.
Doughboy on July 1, 2009 at 8:23 PM
Umm. Duh?
nukemhill on July 1, 2009 at 8:23 PM
I’ll never forgive the lib media for what they have allowed. I feel no pity for the gargoyle, or any of the others.
Funny times when Jake Tapper is held up as an example of journalism. The “Journalists” and their statist handlers have moved the goalposts, and even the libbie bias isn’t enough.
Get used to it, folks, Huffers and Kosmunists will soon be the only ones called on by the TOTUS.

Maybe Helen is suffering from Alzhiemers Disease, and got up this morning believing Dubya was still in office.
BobMbx on July 1, 2009 at 8:23 PM
Slowly, painfully slowly, seems the “press” is starting to wake up…how far they will waken is another question entirely…but when someone like Helen Thomas essentially “we are being played” that should be worthy of notice.
The hot adulation, that passionate glimmer of first love, that limerance of the most wonderful soul mate in your life saying “Yes.” Well, reality sets in and your beloved walks around the house in torn boxers and hasn’t bathed in six days, or has curlers in her hair that haven’t moved since two weeks ago….and suddenly the real picture painfully slowly comes into view…and you have to ask yourself “What the hell was I thinking???”
Maybe Helen is telling the rest of the press the honeymoon is over and there are family law attorneys lined up in the rolodex?
coldwarrior on July 1, 2009 at 8:24 PM
Well, gee, I don’t know who has more credibility: Rahm Emmanuel or Huffington Post.
This way, HuffPo reporter. Excuse us. Front of the room is HERE. Now you wait to be called and the red light on top of the camera to be on.
Marcus on July 1, 2009 at 8:24 PM

txag92 on July 1, 2009 at 8:25 PM
1) How did the Press (Helen) know that this was set up? Well, most likely because everything else has been set up.
2) Why is Helen just now upset? Well, because before illegitimate journalists from Huff-n-Puff weren’t given the limelight… Now’s she’s upset.
Rush predicts that she won’t keep the hounding IF Obama veers away from BlogJournalists.

Hopefully, they are waking up. One would think that ratings that are dropping weekly and circulation that is plummeting might have been the screaming alarm. I don’t understand how they ignore that fact and yet continue on their mission. I thought they lived and died by ratings and ad revenues.

It’s good to know that even some leftist hacks will call a spade a spade if it comes to that. Now we will see which leftist journalists do really believe in the freedom of the press, and which are journalists in name only. This is what separates the principled leftist, such as from your father’s generation, from the complicit leftist of today.

According to Gibbs, all questions need to be submitted by e-mail PRIOR to the White House in order to be selected………….
………… My understanding of this is that each question is thoroughly reviewed, censored, polled for political impact, thrown out, or accepted, and then Obama is given the “proper” answer BEFORE the town hall or press conference so as not to look like the As%Clown fool he really is…….
………… That doesn’t sound like a “Free Press” to me.
Maybe Helen is finally catching on……….

At some point some of the journalists and reporters who are paying attention will ask that question, “Why aren’t people reading our stuff anymore and why have I been laid off in my best earning years and nobody is hiring reporters anymore?
Then…yep, a few of them will wake up. Then we can recognize them often, when we sit down and say “Hey, waiter, I’m ready to order now.”

It’s really interesting to me that the one thing that Obama may have actually done right in this whole Iran debacle is what the press is all up in arms about. He gave HuffPo a chance to shine a little public light on the pits of hell that the Iranian people are buried in, and Helen and company have their panties completely in a twist. Never mind that they’ve been fellating The One since before his Senatorial run in ‘06. Never mind the overt sexism that he displayed towards Hillary during the primaries. Never mind the mind-boggling mistakes he’s made so far. Nope. He didn’t follow some sort of unwritten protocol, and now they’re trying to take him to task for that.
What a bunch of losers. Really. No class; no ethics; no sense of responsibility. Just a bunch of sniveling panty-wastes.

This isnt about the MFMSM (Mother E’ffing Mainstream Media) suddenly waking up reporting the real news, that is never ever going to happen again. And by the way, please don’t take this as some signal that the press is “waking up.” The press is not going to wake up. Obama is a leftist. They are leftists. They are there to sell Obama’s agenda. Period. They do not even contemplate any other “professional” responsibilities. They are part of Obama’s staff — overtly, completely, shamelessly, and for as long as he’s in office.

She gave up the whole hoax with that comment. There is a specific reason that she would never used the word “puppet” if this was playing out during the Bush Administration.
The puppets and their master were worried that the strings were starting to show so they brought in this Huffington “straw puppet” so that the usual puppets could look less puppety by appearing to be outraged by the straw puppet.

Dearest,
You are glorious and I hope you really understand that. You do not need a therapist to help you figure your place in the world. You are special and unique and fabulous in a whole host of ways that are worth a much longer conversation.
Another glorious day outside. Hope you are doing well, and am anxious to hear about your week. Know that I miss you. Unbeleivably hard to imagine it has been a week. Please also send your mailing address as I want to send you an insignificant something next week when I am back in civilization that I think you might find interesting given our conversation.
I have been specializing in staying focused on decisions and actions of the head for a long time now — and you have my heart. You have oh so many attributes that pulls it in this direction. Do you really comprehend how beautiful your smile is? Have you been told lately how warm your eyes are and how they softly glow with the special nature of your soul.
Hugs and much love. BB
txag92 on July 1, 2009 at 8:39 PM
Glad to hear it, but as others have noted I think this is mostly about turf. Didn’t Helen get upset when her traditional spot in the press room was moved a few years ago? Now, Obama’s calling on a blogger.
She hears the clock ticking on her time in the pool.
cs89 on July 1, 2009 at 8:40 PM
Nah, journalists are completely out-of-touch when it comes to matters of profit. Remember how everyone at the Boston Globe voted to take a pay cut so they could keep their jobs? Everyone except for the writers and editors that is. They apparently didn’t believe that the newspaper would get shut down if it kept losing millions of dollars every year.

Upstater85 on July 1, 2009 at 8:41 PM
Because you do not understand that this is part of the script. This is the MFMSM (Mother E’ffing Mainstream Media) fooling people into thinking that they might actually one day genuinely report the news. That is never ever going to happen again. They are brainwashing the public into thinking what they want them to think.
