Audio: John Ziegler grills Politico reporter for calling Palin a “circus act”

I don’t know what Mike Allen thought he was getting himself into here, but after this he’d be well advised not to go throwing stones at anyone else for coming off badly in interviews. The clip’s long but the first 3:45 is intro and can be safely skipped if you watched the MSNBC vid this morning. Enjoy.
Update (Ed): You can find John at his new gig at KGIL 1260 AM in Los Angeles. He has a cleaner version of the audio here, without the occasional hiccups.

Well, he couldn’t back up what he said earlier, and wouldn’t back down and admit he couldn’t, so he was stuck and too dumb to spin out of it effectively.
cs89 on July 1, 2009 at 10:29 PM
That was beautiful. Good for Zigler. The more we fight for her the less fighting she has to do.
It is troubling to know all the things she had to fight behind the scenes while she was trying to drag McCain to the finish line. She didn’t come down here to loose. She gave it her all. At one point in the campaign I realized that McCain didn’t want to win. Just one of the split second moments when he would not call out a fellow Senator. Now we are in for a long difficult time with no one calling out the Dems for their corruption.
I have come to the conclusion that Sarah does need more time. Time to win hearts and minds. We’re with you Sarah. We’ve got your back.

This guy is either deaf and can’t read lips, dumb as a box of rocks, or he is a member of the msm and therefore, lacks any integrity. Or perhaps, he’s all of the above.

I had watched this thing on MSNBC and wondered to myself why some people are so bent on destroying this woman. What is it in Sarah Palin that drives them nuts? I could not wrap my mind around this even if I tried. Listening to this moron left me wondering. He has no ounce of integrity, I felt sorry for John Ziegler, so frustrating trying to get a simple answer from this guy. No wonder John Kerry wishes it was Palin with marital problems. The mere presence of Palin is enough to drive them crazy and she should re-appear from time to time in the news just for that reason!

Again, I didn’t see the MSNBC segment, so I don’t know what the guy said there. Context is everything and Ziegler could be right on the money. However, in the Ziegler interview it sounded pretty clear that Allen was talking about Palin “digging herself deeper” by agreeing to do the interviews in the first place. Kind of like when Rush Limbaugh talks about not even bothering to accept the premise of a question when you know that premise is b.s.
That said, Allen didn’t do even a passable job of explaining himself clearly enough for Ziegler to understand where he was coming from. But part of the blame for that is Ziegler’s. He certainly had a narrative in place as to what Allen meant when he made the initial remark. A biased view of the statement, and one that would take Allen’s comments as negatively as they could possible be taken, because that’s Ziegler’s gig.
I think a lot of Allen’s confusion was caused because he did not understanding what exactly Ziegler had a problem with.

After this interview Mike Allen needs rectal surgery. This is journalism at its best. Ziegler demonstrates perfectly that Allen is a journalist who is prepared to invent a story in order to attack someone he doesn’t like.

I love Zeigler…he is the type of person we need reporting the news to us…
CCRWM on July 1, 2009 at 11:00 PM
That was embarrassing. Mike Allen sounded like a broken record. A crappy broken record.
Ziegler’s figured out a brilliant strategy for dealing with these media hacks. Call them out on their BS. Throw their own words back in their faces and force them to defend what they said. He all but dared Matt Lauer to say that he thought Palin was dumb, and Lauer chickened out and wouldn’t do it. He made fools out of David Shyster and Contessa Brewer. And now he makes Mike Allen sound less coherent than a drooling vegetable.
For Palin and every GOP politician as well every conservative pundit, this is how you handle the media. Stand up to them and make them repeat to your face what they say when you’re out of the room. I guarantee you even someone like Olberskank or Bill Maher would pu$$y out and back down.

Never been impressed with Mr. Allen’s writing –
Time Magazine’s old White House hack – hard to shake that old “Time Ideology”, huh Mike? Would’ve expected someone with a liilte more on the ball from Politico.

Mike Allen started out at the Richmond Times-Distress some years back. Nice to see how he’s progressed (sarc). I quit that paper awhile back when they decided to become lib and tragically hip.
Mike, if you show your face in public within the next two years, you’re a brave man. I hope people forget this relatively soon, for your sake.
Meanwhile, up in Alaska, I hope the next Ronald Reagan is laughing her little tushy off. Karma’s a bee-yotch, Mike!

THE CHOSEN ONE on July 1, 2009 at 11:32 PM
You need talking points when you want to spin something in a specific way. Politicians use talking points. The fact that Allen kept going back to his talking points, again and AGAIN, proves that his work is political not journalistic.

Ziegler treated the enemy like the enemy. allen, who is the enemy, treated Gov. Palin that way. It’s about time that all these other “conservative” pundits who make millions off of us take a side and start treating the enemy as they treat us instead of making dinner dates and golf dates with them. politico is a left wing propaganda outfit with a very clear agenda. It is time they stop getting advertising on conservative radio and television shows. Let the left support them.
peacenprosperity on July 1, 2009 at 11:52 PM

I heard this today on Ziegler’s new radio show which airs from 11-1pm PDT. Does it air nationally live? He’s been doing a great job.
The other day he was off and he had two black conservatives filling in. I have to check on their names. Also, a lot of black conservatives were calling in. They were great. Took no prisoners.
Blake on July 1, 2009 at 11:57 PM
Ziegler again does a great job pointing out how ficticious the msm is in it’s criticism of Palin. He exposed this jerk Allen’s smears on Palin as baseless lies. He exposed Allen as a either a leftie syncophant or even worse simply as a reporter who sold out just to curry favor with the left. He could not back up one iota of what he said. We need a lot more of Ziegler and more like him. Logic, reality and accountability are the pins to burst the delusional ballooning lies of the left.
shmendrick on July 2, 2009 at 12:00 AM
The reason all these hosts suck up to these aholes is so they and other weenies will appear on their show. Ziegler has no compunctions about burning his bridges if necessary. He express a lot of empathy for Scarborough, though. Not sure why. Bottomline, is how much of your soul are you going to sell to the devil? If it comes down to you will say anything no matter how disgusting and dishonest in order to make $$$$ and be on television, you’re a dirty whore.

Connie on July 2, 2009 at 12:11 AM
Really, the only logical reason the MSM and libs in general continue to villify Sarahcuda is absolute, unequivocal fear that she will head the GOP ticket in 2012. I realize this is no great revelation, but it never ceases to amaze me the extent to which these people are willing to go to make this woman look like Stalin, Hitler, or Mata Hari. And yet we have a VP whose dumber than a box of rocks who is a heartbeat away from carrying the football. Is this really America?
Goldy1 on July 2, 2009 at 12:16 AM
What an a) appalling display by Mike Allen and b) concise evisceration of Allen by Ziegler.
Ziegler just exposed Allen as a slimy, evasive hack to the point where Allen should be unemployable by responsible news enterprises. Allen was caught pawning off dishonest criticism of Palin, refusing to acknowledge that he did that very thing multiple times, and willfully played ignorant by sticking to his talking points because to reverse course on record would have made the record that much more damning.
Ziegler provided enough of both context and opportunity for Allen to correct the record, a record everyone can see was wholly contrived and disingenuous, and Allen refused in a most cowardly way – acting as if Ziegler was speaking another language while refusing to address the simplest, most direct question… repeatedly and oh so obviously.
Well done, Ziegler. You just smoked out one of the many “objective” reporters who continues to poison the news industry and accelerate the demise of the profession.
Thanks, AP, for linking a delicious exposé.

Mike Allen wouldn’t be an honorable adversary against my dog. She’d bark at him and he’d nervously repeat himself. These are the kind of pussies we’re losing a media battle to. We need more John Zieglers out there. He could have taken on a room of Mike Allens.
I remember seeing Zeigler punk Barbara Walters real badly. He got her to state that Sarah Palin said; ” I can see Russia from my house.” Then he told her Palin never said that. Walters responded, tightening her own noose and then Ziegler let her know that it was Tina Fey from SNL who actually said those words. Walters got flustered, tried to dismiss it all and change the subject.

Jeff from WI on July 2, 2009 at 6:06 AM
nicely done John…..
stupid interviews done by Palin? Let’s set the record straight. Palin knocked it out of the field with her interviews on the Today show and CNN. She statede her energy platform clearly. she talked up her gasline victory, she got Mr. Late night to apolozie to her daughter and to her, She gave shot after shot at Obama’s policy while giving him more respect then he deserves. She got a bi I told you so in on hannity as the obama economic policy continues to shed jobs, and put up tinpot dictators. She called Obama out on the defense of the USA IRT North Korea.
the fac tof the matter is that the polls are in from the interviews and the beltway elites did not like what they saw. Palin’s numbers went up after her tour of the lower 48. she got NOw to side with her. she had 20,000 people come see her, she upstaged Newt and the beltway GOP at their dinner.
No this vannity fair article, the CBS story, this Allen crap on MSNbc and Allah’s posts all are an attempt to dimish Palin from ther great week. To push her unfavorables up and favorables down.
they do not want palin to go back to Alasaka to “learn” forgien policy and economic policy they want her to go back there and stay there. They want her to disappear for good in the great white north. Why? several reasons. But most importantly is because she doesn’t need to “learn” anything. she showed that in the interviews. If she stayed in AlASKA then they can always say she isn’t ready, that she can’t possibly learn enough in 4 years, 2 years etc.
By her coming out early and handling every interview with a A+ grade she just showed them she can handle it.
So the beltway, media and Gop want to make her into a tabloid cover. I wonder who will win. the problem with trying to make someone into something they are not. It only works if the person allows themselves to be protrayed that way.
the use qualye as a example. but Qualye was a stupid, ivy educated person that everytime he opened his mouth he reinforced the media picture they were painting. Palin is not Qualye and everytime (like Reagan) she opens her mouth she destroys the picture they are trying to paint.
Like I said it will be interesting to see which side wins… My money and hope is on Palin
unseen on July 2, 2009 at 6:16 AM
Horsecrap! A third grader could understand Ziegler’s question.
“Which interview was stupid?” Seems straight forward to me.
jimmy2shoes on July 2, 2009 at 6:43 AM
No, grunwald is married to matt cooper, the lying piece of s@*# that started the whole valerie plame deal. Another sad chapter in “How ‘Conservative’ Pundits Helped the Left Screw America”. No courageous conservative pundit had the balls to ask this weasel clintonite cooper if had ever had dinner with the clintonite wilson/plames long before any of the plamegate crap started. The prosecutor fitzgerald never asked cooper if he knew these loyal clintonites long before plamegate and if he knew what the wife did for a living. Another sad chapter in the demise of a once proud nation where justice and principle once had a home.

Notice how Allen is a sneering tough guy when standing behind the bullies at MSNBC, but then turns into an evasive, gutless punk when confronted directly. A guy this conveniently courageous is not someone you want to get into a foxhole with.
He did succeed in showing Sarah that she doesn’t need a “series of stupid interviews” to destroy her credibility. One is enough when you’re this intellectually dishonest.
Palin can only dream of being in Allen’s league.
RadClown on July 2, 2009 at 9:54 AM
If you respect and accept John’s opening praising Allen as an unbiased reporter and then listen to Allen’s response, I come to the conclusion Allen was not deliberately trying to obfuscate but was suffering from a medical issue beyond the usual liberal derangement syndrome. I hope he gets help.

Man, Mike Allen got busted big time. I’ve been saying the same as Ziegler. She hasn’t given interviews. The press is reporting on stuff, always without even her comments added.
It’s hard to imagine how this guy, Allen, is considered professional. He simply avoided the basic question over and over about her “causing” this by giving bad interviews.
She really hasn’t.
AnninCA on July 2, 2009 at 10:11 AM
That’s the funniest part, RadClown: he’s being nailed for saying she gave “stupid interviews” but he couldn’t give a single example, and in the course of this, himself giving the stupidest of all possible interviews.
Ziegler handled him great, but I would have liked to have heard him rattle off the interviews Palin actually gave while she was down south. She first did one with Lauer and one with Blitzer. Both were heavy on policy, and it was widely noticed that she hit both of ‘em right out of the park. They both tried to get the Letterman stuff in at the ends, and she was pretty gracious about it. And then there was the walk in the park chat with Hannity. None of these were “stupid interviews.”
John could have really gotten under this weasel’s skin if he’d asked after the fourth repetition of the “some people say…” line, whether this was the only thing Mike had written on the paper in front of him. He was clearly reading from a prepared statement, and had no more back-up!

The most hilarious thing is the “she needs to study economics” stuff. LOL.
Are you serious? With all the idiocy by Obama you think he understands economics? A guy who doesn’t know what P and L stands for?
UNBELIEVEABLE.

Sarah Palin was probably unprepared for the MSM’s viciousness when she was nominated for VP last year, because she was probably used to dealing with Republican-friendly press in Alaska.
She got skewered in the interviews with Charlie Gibson (who basically cut and pasted her responses to make it seem like she was answering the wrong question) and Katie Couric, who tried to paint her as illiterate because Palin wouldn’t tell Couric what magazines and newspaperes she read.
Chalk that up to inexperience–after all, she was only 44 years old during that campaign! But she is a fast learner, which she has proven in the past in Alaska. She is a sharp debater, and smart and articulate when she discusses policy and knows the issues. She still has another 3 years to “learn the ropes” about how Washington works, and the repeated media bashing about her personal life just gives her more time in the spotlight, leading more voters to hear her side, and be convinced that, well maybe she’s NOT stupid, and she makes a lot of sense.
One has to wonder–if liberals have both the Presidency and both houses of Congress, why do they go out of their way to bash Sarah Palin, who as Governor of far-off Alaska with only three people in Congress has little influence over the Federal Government? Probably because they think she is dangerous to their agenda–she’s young and attractive, she’s conservative, she’s honest, she’s smart, and she’s fearless, and needs to be destroyed at all costs. Most likely, these ridiculous attacks will backfire on the liberals, and make Sarah Palin stronger in the future.
