Sanford: I “crossed lines” with other women too. Also, Maria’s my soulmate

posted at 4:05 pm on June 30, 2009 by Allahpundit

I’m confused. Is he … trying to destroy his wife and kids? Or is this just some sort of slow-motion nervous breakdown?

His aides seriously need to start steering this guy away from microphones before he ends up telling us which positions he and Maria tried.

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford said Tuesday that he “crossed lines” with a handful of women other than his mistress – but never had sex with them.

The governor said he “never crossed the ultimate line” with anyone but Maria Belen Chapur, the Argentine at the center of a scandal that has derailed his once-promising political career.

“This was a whole lot more than a simple affair, this was a love story,” Sanford said. “A forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day.”

During an emotional interview at his Statehouse office with The Associated Press on Tuesday, Sanford said Chapur is his soul mate but he’s trying to fall back in love with his wife.

He told the AP that the shenanigans with other women came during trips outside the country with male friends to, and I quote, “blow off steam.” Whether that means trips to a strip club or something more, only Sanford knows. But just wait a day or two. I’m sure we’ll find out.

As of last night, nearly 50 percent of South Carolinians thought he should stay on. Can’t wait to see what happens to that number tomorrow. Exit question: Show of hands, ladies. How many of you would be willing to take back a guy who told you, “I’ve met this other woman and she’s totally my soulmate, but I’m going to try real hard to fall back in love with you”?

♫♪Love, soft as an easy chair…♪♫
Love, fresh as the morning air.
One love that is shared by two six.
Sure makes politicians look like pr*cks.

The total self destruction of the gop is at hand. I just love me the smell of gop meltdown in the morning. All the bible thumping, ripping the immoral libruls, holier than thou has come back to bite you. Memo to the gop….the chickens have come home to roost. You found fault in everyone else, but failed to look in the mirror. Sanford is one of your own, he’s all yours and he won’t shut up, good for him.

When a male publically acknowledges his mistress as his soulmate at the expense of the mental health of his children, he is no longer a man.

Sounds like a bleeding heart liberal.

Guaranteed some WOMAN, right now, as we speak, is telling him what a wonderful individual he is.

See, it’s not just liberals who can be totally immersed in themselves. It just hurts more when conservatives do it because we expect them to behave with dignity and honor and strive for something higher than their personal needs. We expect nothing from liberals and they always deliver.
I don’t care if Sanford stays as governor (that’s for his constituents to decide), but I do wish he’d STFU. He’s not helping himself or his party.

I prefer when they keep talking. It identifies the depth of creepiness they are.

So? There are also women falling in love with serial killers on death row.

Sad thing is…Sanford would believe them. ick..he needs to Go.

Quit promoting this loser’s self destruction. Sanford was nationally an unknown. Don’t permit this distraction further attention at our expense.

“…plus, I beat off a lot,” -Mark Sanford.

el oh el.

Well I’m guessing he feels like he needs to come completely clean. He may have now bought into the whole “honesty is the best policy” a bit too much. Someone throw “discretion is the better part of valor” to him stat.

The personal virtue scandals break fairly evenly across parties over time. Since there doesn’t seem to be a correlation between how much a politician talks about fidelity and how well he behaves, the GOP should focus conversations about virtue on public policy.

I always wondered about that. Why a woman falls for a guy on death row. I guess it explains women being the base of the Democratic Party.

Posts like this one make me want to encourage Sanford to stay and cut taxes for his citizens, torpedo cap and trade BS as best he can, and speak LOUDLY about issues and against the Obamunists.

Sanford if you want to stay, get talking about the stuff that put you in office and stop whining like a little girl about that woman in Buenes Aires. Be a GOVERNOR not a guest on the Oprah show. It’s sleazy and unbecoming and will not help you. Man up!

Now that was entirely uncalled for. We all know that if MJ said they were his kids, we MUST believe him because he would NEVER lie. Even if he did lie that’s OK because he was the King of Pop so we must forgive anything he says or does.

Sanford said Chapur is his soul mate but he’s trying to fall back in love with his wife.

The first thing you do when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging. You know like put the shovel down.

He needs to try reading Psalm 15 about now.

Hey Mark! What about that time at band camp???

sannhet on July 1, 2009 at 4:01 PM

Mark Sanford needs to realize when it’s time to zip it. Both his fly and his mouth.

He was caught with his pants down, and needs to come clean, by admitting that he screwed up, both to his wife and the people of South Carolina.

But he should stop trying to make excuses by claiming the Argentine woman was his “soul mate”. That only makes it worse, for everybody concerned. Whether Maria half a world away tempted him or misled him, they BOTH did wrong, and Sanford needs to apologize and tell everyone that he will do everything possible to reconcile with his wife and faithfully serve the people of South Carolina, then stop talking about it and get down to business.

What constitutes a “soul mate”, like beauty, is in the eye or heart of the beholder, and can be extremely deceptive. A self-proclaimed “soul mate” can become a person’s most vicious enemy on a moment’s notice. Been there, done that.

Note to Mark Sanford, and all others caught in such a trap: There is no such thing as a soul mate, except Jesus Christ.

Steve Z on July 1, 2009 at 5:00 PM

Unless he’s packing a spare tire the size of S. Carolina, his wife should not touch him. God knows where he has been or what lines he’s done..or crossed..or whatever he’s talking about.
