		<description>I&#039;ve said this before, but here goes again.  This was inevitable, and not reversible.  Every free society has gone totalitarian if it wasn&#039;t destroyed from the outside before it got the chance.

I&#039;m frankly amazed it happened this quickly, I just knew I (and probably my kids) would miss this.  For those of you that think this will turn around in 2010, I hope you&#039;re proven right.  Being the student of history that I am, I seriously doubt it.

For all of you getting concealed-carry permits or buying guns that require you to register either yourself or your guns, the govt already has your information.  They will be coming, and since they already know you are armed, they will be coming prepared.

For the rest, who managed to buy guns legally but out of govt oversight, continue to prepare.  Stock up.  Learn to garden.  Get very friendly with as many neighbors as possible so you already have a local support network in place when the inevitable comes.</description>

If there is a silver lining to what is happening here and now - it&#039;s that this feels historic and how many times can you say &quot;You were there&quot; when the world transformed for bad or good?  

At this point we are just along for the ride and if you can&#039;t do anything about it you should at least be able to apprecieate the &quot;Black Swan&quot; wonder of it all.  We weren&#039;t there for the beginning of this magnificent experiment, but we ARE here for the end.  It feels like we are dinning in the Restaurant at the End of the Universe without the ability to jump back to a safer time.  If we are honest, I think everyone knows where this freak show is going.  If we are pragmatic, we are preparing and doing what little we can to mitigate the fall out.  But - the part of you that must take risks and needs that adrenaline to make life worth living - has got to be a little drawn by the wonder of this time.  Keep a diary.  Someday, your grandkids are going to want to know what it was like to see freedom fall and you are going to &lt;strong&gt;want&lt;/strong&gt; them to know even if you aren&#039;t there to tell them.</description>

Murrow  had a series (and it was before my time but my dad bought me the lp collection because I was an undatable geek of a kid like that) called &#8220;You are there&#8221;.  It put you inside history.  Next to James Burkes &#8220;Connections&#8221; series I think it&#8217;s my favorite thing to listen to. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary 
Army; another had two sons captured. 

 Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds 
 
 or 
 
 hardships of the Revolutionary War. 
 
 
 They signed and they pledged their lives, their 
 fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men 
 were they? 
 
 
 Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. 
 
 Eleven were merchants, 
 
 Nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men 
 of means, well educated, but they signed the 
 
 Declaration of Independence knowing full well that 
 the penalty would be death if they were captured.  
 Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and 
 trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the 
 British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay 
 his debts, and died in rags. 


 Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he 
 was forced to move his family almost constantly. He 
 served in the Congress without pay, and his family 
 was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from 
 him, and poverty was his reward.   Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall,Clymer, 
 Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.  
 At the battle of Yorktown , Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted 
 that the British General Cornwallis had taken over 
 the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly 
 urged General George Washington to open fire. The 
home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt. 
Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. 
 The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months. 
 
 John Hart was driven from his wife&#039;s bedside as she 
 was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. 
 His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For 
 more than a year he lived in forests and caves, 
 returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. 
 

 So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday  and  silently thank these patriots. It&#039;s not much to ask for the &gt; price they paid.
