Kos warns Reid: With 60 votes, you have no more excuses

posted at 9:00 pm on June 30, 2009 by Allahpundit

Exhibit A in why it is in fact possible to have too big of a majority: Once you hit 60, the cranks on your side demand results. The nutroots will be watching cap-and-trade and amnesty and health care and maybe even a second stimulus verrrrrry carefully, Harry. As will we, as will we.

Note what constitutes “fair and balanced” on Ed Schultz’s show. Kos and Bill Press.

Re: front picture – MY EYES!

I think we need to look at the strong possibility that we’re going to have to tear these programs down.

I don’t see how they’re NOT going to pass now.

The Dems are too chickensh!t to try and ram everything. They had 60 votes before Franken (Snowe, Collins, Specter) so this really makes no difference. They will always try to get the GOP on-board with their turd policies because when it fails (and it will), they don’t want to have wait another 30 years to be back in the supermajority.

Those of you who continue to respond to a super-majority Senate, a leftwing House, and a loony White House with talk of the 2nd Amendment need to go take a long walk and relax.

Then find a Republican candidate for office at every level that you can support on 80% of the issues, and support them well. Talking about guns isn’t getting you anywhere.

I really don’t see Kos and his type demanding results and making the Dems pay at the polls if they fail to deliver. With them, it’s all about being seen demanding results and threatening to make people pay. Really, who’ll they vote for if Barry, Harry, and Nancy don’t deliver–Sarah? Then, again, maybe Kos will start the Screw Them party.

Christien on June 30, 2009 at 9:18 PM

The funny part of all of this is as AP says: if you think the bitch-slapping that the Maine spinsters and Spectre got for the Porkulus was severe, you ain’t seen nothing.

Just wait for the first Dem Senator who votes against anything that’s on the wacky left’s plate. As the California nitwit says – you’ve never seen terrorism like this!

Jaibones on June 30, 2009 at 9:18 PM

I don’t know what world these three are living in. They sound like Bill Maher a few weeks ago. The Dems and Obama have pushed through everything they’ve wanted so far. Yes, they haven’t passed Obamacare, crap-and-trade(at least not in the Senate), card check, and amnesty yet, but it’s been 5 1/2 months. Like Obama said, we ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.

And they can’t seriously be so dumb as to be wondering why Harry Reid wants Republican votes on these bills even though he doesn’t technically need any. It’s to cover his ass when this stuff destroys the economy. It’s the same game they played with TARP last fall.

Doughboy on June 30, 2009 at 9:18 PM

Strong possibility or strong probability?

Trouble is, if they get energy and Obamacare, they’ll control 40-60% of the economy, from which there’s no realistic chance of return. After that, it will be the Obamanation, chavismo lite, and it will be too late to go back.

The Israeli navy took control of a boat reported to be carrying humanitarian aid, a former U.S. congresswoman and a Nobel laureate Tuesday after the boat violated an Israeli blockade and crossed into Gazan waters, the Israel Defense Forces said.

Cynthia McKinney reportedly is asking the international community to demand the crew’s release.

The boat’s crew included former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, according to the Free Gaza Movement, a human rights group that sent the boat it calls “Spirit of Humanity” from Cyprus.

According to the Free Gaza group, McKinney said, “This is an outrageous violation of international law against us. Our boat was not in Israeli waters, and we were on a human rights mission to the Gaza Strip,” before authorities confiscated cell phones.

“President Obama just told Israel to let in humanitarian and reconstruction supplies, and that’s exactly what we tried to do. We’re asking the international community to demand our release so we can resume our journey,” McKinney said, according to the group

I agree, but I don’t think that will do the job. I seriously believe that we as a country need to experience fullblown socialisim and the poverty and misery that comes with it before people like Obama and Pelosi have to wait another 2 or 3 generations to get ack into power, it has really come to that. Our so-called media are nothing more than democratic shills for the last 10-15 years at the minimum and Barrack H. Obama is the result. We all deserve what happens to us because we have been too weak or lazy to fight back, (or if you actually voted for Obama, stupid)…I am not trying to pick a fight. I am just saying that nothing short of prolonged and universal pain and misery will be enough to jar the average person out of the “me-first” mentality that got Obama elected in the first place.

Man, Kos always has that insane glint in his eye every time I see a picture of him.

Franken, at some point, is going to be a national embarassment. Either his temper will flare up or we’ll be subjected to injections of lame comedic shtick during Senate arguments. Hope the Dems are proud of that one.

The supermajority is concerning because, as a party that has shown no willingness to listen to the Republicans (indeed, anyone moderate or to the right of Hillary), the Democrats will double down on their one-track liberal agenda.

Sure, they will hopefully get spanked in 2010. The problem is that at that point, the damage will have been done. One of the first posters had it right, we will probably have to tear this things down rather than hope they fail in Congress. The unfortunate reality is that legislation, entitlements, and bureaucracy prove more easy to create than to destroy.

I heard that Byrd is rarely there anymore so they really don’t have 60, most of the time.

I think it is a curse in a way. I seriously doubt if my Senator Bayh will vote for another stimulus, he refused to vote for the last one. And so far he has said no to a cap and trade bill.

What was Trent Lott said about controlling the Senate? It is like herding cats.

Amen, my thoughts exactly. The zombie Democrat voters have to see the state fail. Without that they will never change.

By then it would be too late.

- What worked in the 80′s was not learned or reproduced. You want visual evidence that even a moron could see with his or her own eyes? Kennedy taxt cuts, Reagan tax cuts, Bush tax cuts. REAL DEMONSTRABLE EVIDENCE.

- In a dictatorship if you side with the power base you are protected so they will never “see” what they are doing to their country that they hate anyway.

- Military men like myself HATE what we see going on when we are sworn to protect and defend the Constitution and our government flippantly treats the Constitution as a political pawn that can be trampled on when it suits their purpose. Having said that, no one, and I mean NO ONE should root for the failure of their own country. As a citizen we should fight to get it back, and the way to do that is the elections in 2010. Don’t like what you see? get off yer ass and organize, get out the vote, campaign, donate funds to your favorite politician, and most importantly hold them personally accountable for their positions. Calling their office early and often does more good than you think.

I seriously believe that we as a country need to experience full blown socialism and the poverty and misery that comes with it before people like Obama and Pelosi have to wait another 2 or 3 generations to get back into power, it has really come to that.
Mord on June 30, 2009 at 9:41 PM

Yes, I think indeed it has. If not full blown socialism, then by the hand of the O-bots, the inevitable economic/financial crisis of our lifetime. So, if it’s inevitable, the faster the descent into Obamanation the better, except for the things from which there are no likely return, such as Obamacare. Those we must fight tooth and nail to the death.

Logic would say that the American people will have seen enough by the time of the mid-term elections to turn this around.

However, now that the media is openly and unabashedly leftist and Democrat, the propaganda will be full bore by that time. And I am afraid that the mass of sheeple will be easily herded.

Also keep an eye on Acorn. All that stimulus money for them wasn’t for poops and giggles. It was to ensure that voter fraud is there as a safety net for the Dems.

The libs and Dems are absolute believers in Alinsky’s philosophy that the ends justify the means.
