Waxman: Opposing cap and trade means “rooting against the country” or something

Actually, he says, it’s more like “rooting against the world,” echoing Krugman’s declaration this morning that opposing C&T constitutes “treason to the planet.” I wonder who came up with this new lefty talking point, in which disagreeing with leftist solutions to environmental problems constitutes the rape of Gaia herself. (Among the rapists in this case: 44 Democrats.) Suspicions, as always, fall on Rahm, although in fairness it’s Pelosi who’s traditionally been most apt to label her opponents unpatriotic or un-American for refusing to embrace the left’s agenda. No matter. File this one away in your “dissent is not patriotic” cabinet.

Note that Waxman cites as further evidence of the GOP’s anti-Americanism its opposition to the stimulus. How’s that working out these days? Don’t worry — if they didn’t get it right on the first try, I’m sure they’ll get it right on the second. Click the image to watch.

Generally when someone resorts to saying, “If you don’t vote for this it’s because you’re against X” (with X being some thing that is generally liked such as freedom, puppies or Earth), it’s a good bet that the person making the statement doesn’t have a good defense for their stance.

Politicians of all stripes (though, it seems to be an acute problem on the Democrat side) also need to separate the intentions of a bill from the likely outcome (or, if it was done in the past, the actual outcome) of a bill. Perhaps everyone involved in cap and trade was doing it out of a concern and love for Mother Earth. However, almost all research as well as results from similar programs instituted elsewhere have not resulted in the changes Waxman claims to be aiming for with this bill.

He either needs to explain how his bill is different and will result in a different outcome. Or, he needs to acknowledge that his bill will most likely not have a good outcome, but, it’s the ‘feel good’ bill of the year and everyone must vote yes!

Ok, just for a moment, let’s say this whole global warming/climate change thing is real. I don’t believe in it, but let’s pretend. Do people realize what happened in Nevada and California this year when these two states wanted to put in a solar farm to produce alternative energies? They were thwarted in court by the animal rights activists.
Do we really think things will change? This is what will happen. Someone will pick a location to produce alternative energy (Interior Secretary Salazar did so today in Utah) and the animal rights activists will be all over him. They will get their lawyers to sue the environmentalists. The only thing that will come of this is no new alternatives, cap and trade in full force and the lawyers getting rich off taxpayer money. All three of these groups are in the Democrats pockets.

CO2 and climate change… the PHYSICS do not work.

First, the theory of Greenhouse Gases.

All energy comes to, and leaves the Earth as Radiation.

Radiation comes from the Sun, in a specific spectrum (including light), and is then either Reflected back to space, absorbed by the Atmosphere, or absorbed by the earth’s surface.

Energy is also Radiated by all matter (called Black Body Radiation) in specific wavelengths dependent primarily on the Temperature of the mass.

Matter also will absorb radiation, but different molecules absorb different frequencies of radiation energy… known as the absorption spectrum. This energy will raise the energy state of the molecule, which it will then either reradiate (as blackbody radiation), or loose energy through conduction.

The theory behind a greenhouse gas is that the Gas will absorb incoming radiation from the sun, and through conduction, heat the rest of the air around it. It will also absorb IR radiation radiated by the Earth itself (black body radiation again), and use conduction to spread it to the rest of the atmosphere.

So, is CO2 a Greenhouse Gas? YES, it is, but only up to a point.

CO2 ONLY absorbs IR energy in well known, and clearly defined frequencies, which comprise about 8% of the IR Spectrum. This IR can come from the Sun, the Blackbody radiation of the Earth, or the Blackbody Radiation of the atmosphere itself.

The problem is that ALL of the IR radiation in the Earth’s biosphere, within those frequency ranges IS ALREADY BEING ABSORBED!

The above chart is a visual representation of the Energy absorption spectrums of the atmosphere, and the %’s of those spectrums being absorbed. If you look at the CO2 absorption frequencies, you will see that they are already at 100% absorption…

or, to put it simply, there is no more energy to absorb, thus there can be no Temperature increase by adding more CO2!

So, in conclusion, is CO2 a Greenhouse Gas? YES! But its already reached its maximum Greenhouse effect, adding more will not do anything.

Therefore, the Cap and Trade legislation will not do anything except bankrupt us.

You know what pisses me off? Back in 2006 when the Democrats were trying to take Congress they promised to bring down oil prices. But, one they won the prices went up and up until the collapse of the market. Like a balloon that burst. They did their best to stop anything that might at any point in time increase the supply of oil and bring down prices.

And at no time did anyone hold them accountable.

So why should I believe a thing these people tell me?
