Jacko’s dad on son’s death: Hey, be sure to check out my new record label

To cleanse the palate, an unnerving reminder that not all of Michael’s weirdness was a mystery. Tales of Joe Jackson’s brutality towards his kids are legendary, but it’s one thing to read about it and another to see the callousness in action. Granted, we all grieve differently, but most parents are capable of saying a few kind words about a dead child without needing a spokesman to step in and read a prepared statement. Stick with it until around 3:20 to see Papa Jax use his moment of bereavement to promote his new record label, notwithstanding the fact that he’s (a) 80 years old, (b) must already be worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and (c) received an order from an L.A. probate court today granting him and his wife guardianship over Michael’s kids (and their bequests, natch). Who better than an elderly, greedy, alleged child abuser to be given custody?
This was shot last night. Here’s a photo of him from today’s presser. No comment.
Update: I erred in the headline to this post. This wasn’t at a memorial tribute, just the BET Awards. Even so, Joe Jackson was there to see Michael honored and the topic of the hour was MJ’s death. Doesn’t affect the callousness.

I hear about this earlier and thought it happened at some awards show.

Come on Allah… haven’t we been palate cleansed and abused enough w/ Jacko news? Although I will say, that is pretty sicko of Joe to use his son’s death for his own personal gain when he was the one who f-ed up his son and indirectly drove him to death in the first place.

Oh, for sure…everyone grieves differently.
But when I first saw that clip, it just gave me a “creepy” feeling, can’t explain it. Obviously, I’m not alone there. Jackson’s dad almost seemed excited.

Good to know though, he’ll be joining Michael very soon.

I was watching some news last night, and they were playing an interview with Joe Jackson. At least twice, I think, Joe referred to the tragic death, of his superstar son. Not his beloved son, but his SUPERSTAR son. As if to say, had Michael been less than a super star, he wouldn’t be grief worthy, or a good son.
This is one warped, messed up family. No wonder Michael went down the rabbit hole. Daddy Joe really messed him up psychologically.
capejasmine on June 29, 2009 at 6:37 PM
Has Joe Jackson enlisted the assistance of N.W.A., yet? I’m sure that they can be his “spokesman,” too. Maybe the New Black Panthers.
So much to say, so little time. Right, Joe?
OhEssYouCowboys on June 29, 2009 at 6:37 PM
How revolting!
califcon on June 29, 2009 at 6:38 PM
Agreed. And it’s this man who made MJ sympathetic even as someone who likely molested children, partially because Michael never acted much like an adult when he actually got older. He seemed just so f-ed that he couldn’t seem to function as an adult.
I’m not excusing it, just throwing hate on the Jackson man who probably should still be tried in court.
Esthier on June 29, 2009 at 6:38 PM
Barfaroni.
I thought I was tired of this Jacko crap before, now I feel like scrubbing myself with a bristle brush because of the yucky feeling I got from watching that little snippet.
Didn’t at least one of the kids escape the insanity to live a normal, average life somewhere?
Bishop on June 29, 2009 at 6:39 PM
I don’t know why people are so bothered, or suprised, about Joe’s actions here. If my kid was a child raping fruitcake, I’d be glad he was dead too.
Interweb Troll on June 29, 2009 at 6:41 PM
This kinda of reminds me of the classic scene from The Critic.
Lance Murdock on June 29, 2009 at 6:41 PM
Well, I went to the funeral service of the father of a co-worker. Her father’s 90 something mother was in a wheelchair up front. She starts moaning, “what about me?” “who’s going to take care of me?” and on and on and getting louder. When my friend tried to console/quiet her down, she starts yelling, “the hell with him; what about me?”
It was hard not to laugh and I assume it was dementia, though my friend said she had always been a handful.
So, even if Daddy Jackson was/is an a-hole, maybe he’s also not all there.
Blake on June 29, 2009 at 6:41 PM
Michael Jackson Died????? WHAT????
portlandon on June 29, 2009 at 6:41 PM
There is no doubt in my mind about that. It was clear, a long time ago, that Michael Jackson was trying to live the childhood that he never got to live. Complete with his constant association with children, while he was an adult. ALL of it can be laid at the feet of his father.
But, has Joe told you about that new record label, yet?
Sigh.
OhEssYouCowboys on June 29, 2009 at 6:41 PM
Sick, just sick. Those poor kids… Wish the courts would find new more”normal” family for them to grow up in. Not much chance of that. Sad.
sandee on June 29, 2009 at 6:41 PM
Sort of gives substance to the rumors that Joe only saw Michael as a way to line his own pockets. So remote.

Joe was not Father of the Year, either. He’s admitted to abusing his children.
amerpundit on June 29, 2009 at 6:43 PM
I think it’s a huge mistake to give the children who Jackson called his kids to Jackson’s parents.
After all, it was Jackson’s parents–particularly his father–who screwed him up so bad he ended up the way he did.

I am sure they will.
This man USED all his kids for his own enrichment. Now he can get investors to buy NEVERLAND and turn it into JACKOLAND….
Now you see where his problems eminated from.
And it won’t be heaven.
Sure, he has probably not seen Michael and his money for years.
I think Michael has in debt – all his Father should get are the bills.

Scary how cold people can be in this world to one another.
blatantblue on June 29, 2009 at 6:55 PM
Yeah, he kept referring to Michael as a “superstar” whom “the world” lost. Not one word about his own loss, or the family. And weirdest, that he’s more famous now than when he was alive…that really creeped me out.

First of many. The family claimed today that there wasn’t a will but there is and nobody seems to know what is in it. Keep in mind these same family members had a lawsuit pending against Jackson. I sincerely hope I am wrong in thinking that Joe Jackson only sees those kids as a way to keep the money flowing.

Gee, I wonder how I would have turned out if I’d had an abusive father who exploited me since I was a child. What a POS.

The guy rapes and beats his children, then forces them to shuck, jive and dance like a sadistic organ grinder.
He is a beast, and now he gets to do it all again with the grand kids. If there is a G-d in heaven, those kids should be as far away from this monster as possible.
J.J. Sefton on June 29, 2009 at 7:06 PM
He use to hit them. A lot of parents did back then and still do. Not my way, but that doesn’t bother me as much as the fact that he has always thought he was entitled to control his kids, even when they were adults, and treated them with no respect.
There was an interview of the father in RS in the 70s when MJ had moved out and bought his own house. It was clear that his father was pissed off about it and all he did is go on and on about how MJ was not so big that he couldn’t still beat his a$$, etc. It wasn’t said jokingly, either.
Blake on June 29, 2009 at 7:07 PM
This takes the cake! This makes Mark Sanford’s presser of last week sound perfectly normal. One thing that really jumped out is when he says that the 60th wedding anniversary was “their first anniversary”. They really need to keep Papa off the mics.

I heard that there was a will but it was “old” meaning his family will contest it if they aren’t greatly benefited by it. The only thing that would matter is to update it to include all his kids. I have to wonder why he had all those lawyers but he couldn’t get his personal affairs sorted out.

As anyone would know, what happens in childhood, affects adulthood. This man is a disgrace in the treatment of his children.
One thing is spanking, the other is brutality. I can’t fathom how any judge would grant this guy custody of the kids.

I don’t know–judging old people is just not that easy.
I am willing to give everyone the benefit of the doubt in the troubled times of their lives. Even the over the top weird Jacksons.
Hey, I thought I read that Micheal had been diagnosed as a schizophrenic in the 80s. Did anyone else hear that? Because that could explain a great deal of his weirdness.
