Video: The obligatory “dancing Filipino inmates salute Jacko” clip
posted at 1:47 pm on June 28, 2009 by Allahpundit
I wanted to give you a post on Honduras but so profound is my ignorance of that country that I honestly couldn’t find it on a map. Even the usual blogger pose of pretending to know something about which you really know nothing seems inappropriate under those circumstances. All that seems relevant for now is that the president who’s been deposed is a Chavez crony and that Hugo himself is threatening to bring down the new government, replete with military action if necessary. Looks like my prediction of headaches for The One from his new pal might come true sooner than expected.
As for the clip, it’s a fitting tribute for two reasons. One: Their rendition of “Thriller” was almost as big a phenomenon as Michael’s. And two: This may be the only salute to Jacko you’ll see this week featuring actual child molesters. Not sure why they chose ballads, though. Granted, the mood is appropriate to the occasion, but if you’re going to go to the trouble of putting on a show, why not pick something uptempo that lets you show your moves? Besides, most of this is Jackson Five material. How can you have an appropriately maudlin introspective retrospective without “Man in the Mirror”?

Headache? Obama will probably help his buddy out.

Feh. I want to see their tribute to Billy Mays.

OMG! What is up with the vid. What is wrong with the world!

I am watching the video and trying to decide, should I stick a sharp object in my eyes or in my ears… Damn decision making is hard stuff.

Re the Honduras thing: This frees up Zelaya for hot dogs at the White House.

Also, I’m sure Obama will seek talks and a trade agreement with the new government of Honduras long before he gives Colombia the time of day.

There is now way they choreographed this in two days. This had to be a living tribute….

Wait, I didn’t watch the clip. I had not seen this “Ben” number. However, I think the warden of this particular prison has a special talent for humiliating his inmates. Sheriff Joe should confer with him.
Disturb the Universe on June 28, 2009 at 2:04 PM
BTW, don’t forget “Ben” was a love song for a rat.
Disturb the Universe on June 28, 2009 at 2:05 PM
That’s some admirable honesty.
KingGold on June 28, 2009 at 2:05 PM
It sure didn’t take Obama long to take sides on this one.
JohnJ on June 28, 2009 at 2:06 PM
When these prisoners’ videos first came out, there were quite a few stories about how they were forced to practice for hours on end in the hot sun, that it was all for the amusement of the warden, they couldn’t say no, etc. etc. Did that all turn out to be hogwash, or is this really prisoner abuse? I tried to google news on the controversy, but all that turns up now are links to this latest tribute.

Will we have to have a Banner of the ONE and wear the Obama design on our butts?
katy on June 28, 2009 at 2:09 PM
Yet nothing on the Honduras situation. HA is the same as Fox News, pass it on.
About that Honduras situation, Obama is deeply concerned again, prolly time to go play some golf instead of find a church and/or do some work.

Hooray for Honduras! The Honduran army has served honorably and with distinction alongside our people in Iraq. Zelaya is a leftist criminal that is in blatant violation of the Honduran Constitution good riddance!
elduende on June 28, 2009 at 2:09 PM
This Honduras story is a big deal. Dancing Filipino Jacko tribute?…not so much.
As far as I can tell, you basically have a democratically elected leader who was attempting to hold an illegal referendum election for the purpose of extending his term. The Legislature, Supreme Court and military of Honduras were opposed to his dictatorial plans so they did what I expect the US would do if faced with a similar situation.

I’d love to know more about it. I hope there is another Honduras thread soon.
FloatingRock on June 28, 2009 at 2:22 PM
I found this article “deeply troubling” to coin a phrase from our great and wonderful leader. I always thought that MJ had a great and wonderful talent, but to see him descend into madness was quite astonishing. So sad as I think his whole life was lived to benefit others. He never, ever got to enjoy the fruits of his labors. Never got to live in peace with himself or his family or his community. Just a wreck of a life.
However, the involvement of Islam in his later years is indicative of how each and every day we are beginning to see the uncovering of such corruption of the black leaders of our country. We have only scratched the surface but the dots are starting to be connected and the picture isn’t pretty. Investigate ACORN and all of these connections now!

Especially fitting, this crap is as creepy as Jackson was himself.

Upstater85 on June 28, 2009 at 2:29 PM
True. It doesn’t seem like “coup” is an accurate term in this case unless it’s applied to the actions of the guy that was ousted. He was the one operating outside the bounds of Honduran law in opposition to the other branches of government.
FloatingRock on June 28, 2009 at 2:31 PM
Any guesses at the level of Obama’s concern?

ThePrez on June 28, 2009 at 2:33 PM
Hah. I take back the disclaimer. I just noticed Hillary already “condemned”…you know I don’t recall seeing any statement from her on Iran at all.
Interesting how that meddling thing seems to work huh? Barry is on a roll so far he’s sided with Ahmadinejad and now finds himself on the same side as Zelaya, Castro, and Chavez.
I’ve spent a fair amount of time south of the border.
Zelaya is trying to replicate what Chavez (Venezuela) Correa (Ecuador) Morales (Bolivia) Ortega (Nicaragua) and a few others have done. Which is to follow the blueprint laid down in the Sao Paolo Forum for a Communsit takeover of a nation using its legitimate democratic institutions to undermine it from within until what you have left is a Communist nation. Barry is following a very similar plan.
elduende on June 28, 2009 at 2:33 PM

Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana, United States of America…right?
Yet in the inmates’ tribute, in the final segment with “We are the world….” USA for Africa music playing, the inmates were waving flags presumably from around the world, and try as I could, nowhere did I see the USA flag being waved.
It all reminds me of the days following Princess Diana’s death. For years my friends in the UK demonized her and made fun of her and the “royals” as a big joke, but necessary for British tourism.
Yet when Diana died, suddenly everyone was hit with a wave of remorse, followed by undying adoration of their own “people’s Princess”, and more, ad nauseum.
I guess the inmates are no different from anyone else jumping on the bandwagon, trying to grab onto the shreds of Michael’s capes and cloaks to lay claim to their own fifteen minutes of fame, albeit through threadbare association.
It’s all so sad. Michael, in his younger days, was an utterly brilliant talent in so many regards: singer, songwriter, choreographer, music video producer and director, on and on, within his genre. He simply didn’t handle his fame and good fortune with very much grace and dignity, and fell into the trap that so many before of his ilk had: power, money, greed, hedonism, the works.
Still, a great talent has been lost, and should rightfully be mourned in the passing.
The thing I’ll never be able to forget is when Jackson and Lionel Ritchie co-wrote the “We are the World” song, and they were inviting top celebrities to be involved in the actual musical production. The great John Denver heard about it, and asked if he could be a part of it all, or even contribute in some small way.
They turned him down, and gave the reason as being that they didn’t want to “give the wrong impression” by having Denver involved in it. What the…..????
I’m rather taken aback that Jackson, not known for philanthropic endeavors save for that one song he co-wrote to help with the Aid to Africa endeavor, should be so lionized. A brilliant talent, yes, but a shooting star none the less. It burned out suddenly and quietly, gone in a blink. May God rest his soul.

Civilian control will be maintianed as the 2nd in line of succession, the President of the National Congress is sworn in.
