The rank dishonesty of the Obama administration

posted at 9:04 am on June 27, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Jim Geraghty first wrote that all of Barack Obama’s promises come with expiration dates, and broken promises from politicians are nothing new, of course.  However, one usually expects politicians — especially those running on hope and change — to either remain true to their professed core values and the issues that fueled the most passion on the campaign trail, or at least explain their change in the daylight.  Obama did neither, nor did he apologize to the man he besmirched endlessly on the campaign trail while adopting the policy that Obama most demonized as a candidate.

Andrew Malcolm can’t believe the chutzpah:

In yet another sign of political perfidy, the White House of President George W. Bush has drafted a presidential executive order that would allow that double-dealing Republican chief executive to hold suspected terrorist detainees indefinitely.

According to the president’s intentions, such suspects could be detained for long periods of time, virtually indefinitely. Is this really what the nation voted for last November?

Oh, wait. No. According to an exclusive Washington Post/Pro Publica report this afternoon, it’s the refreshing new Democratic administration of Barack Obama that’s now preparing this new executive order to hold certain terrorist suspects indefinitely.

This is an obviously inspiring sign of the new style of leadership the Democrat promised and is finally bringing to the White House. As one blogger put it, George W. Obama. And it shows the kind of powerful political pragmatism with which the ex-senator from Illinois approaches this job at such a crucial and globally turbulent time.Strangely, it was leaked to the Post on a slow summer Friday afternoon when it wouldn’t gain much attention.

This goes beyond the policy, which I think returns to a rational processing of illegal combatants in wartime.  We don’t release POWs until after the conclusion of hostilities, and we sure as hell shouldn’t be releasing illegal combatants any earlier, incentivizing terrorists for operating outside the rules of war.  The fact that they joined an endless jihad against the US shouldn’t get them any consideration for earlier release dates; when the radical Islamists either surrender or get destroyed, then we can see about releasing them. Until then, they should stay locked up and away from the fight.

Obama has essentially endorsed the detention policies of George Bush without the courtesy of apologizing for slandering him over the last two and a half years.  Obama and his allies screeched endlessly about indefinite detentions, and not just in Gitmo, either.  They specifically railed against the holding of terrorists without access to civil courts in military detention facilities around the world, specifically Bagram, but in general as well.  Not even six months into his term of office, Obama realized that Bush had it right all along.

Did he even have the grace to admit that?  No.  Instead, the White House took the cowardly method of a late-Friday leak to let people know that Obama had adopted the Bush policy all over again.  Barack Obama just appeared at a press conference this last Tuesday to discuss Iran, energy policy, and ObamaCare, where he could have told the national press that he had changed his mind on indefinite detention.  Instead, he kept his mouth shut, and had his media staff whisper it into phones to a couple of White House favorites in the press.

It’s a shameful performance, and the measure of the man in charge.

Addendum: I guess Obama has finally conceded to Dick Cheney on national security, hasn’t he?

We realize Obama is unfit for the job, but what can be done?
The Line of Succession, in the case of impeachment would give us #1 V.P. Joe Biden #2Spkr of the Hse.Nancy Pelosi #3President Pro Tempore Robert Byrd #4 Sec. of State Hillary Clinton #5 Sec. of Treas. Timothy Geitner and then #6 Sec. of Def. Robert Gates. Absolutely, but I have to comment that Mary Bono in Palm Springs must have a death wish because NO ONE, save for the Vegas community will be beaten down harder by their energy use than the Palm Springs community. Between the air conditioning and the oxygen tanks, they’ve already used all their “credits” until 2060.

Sorry for the terminology, but why don’t some of you just come out and call Obama an Uppity N*****, since that’s what some people obviously think about him. I base that on what I’ve seen and heard said about the man.

I don’t think Hick actually knows the real meaning that historically describes the phrase. I think he used it quite ignorantly and it actually has no application to the subject individual in his statement. He just threw it out to create a bump in the road. I ask you to examine his handle carefully. He admittedly has a much more limited arsenal of words and phrases available to use than we do.

“It is thus extremely difficult, and indeed, in most cases for the individual citizen to come to objective conclusions and to make intelligent use of his political rights.”….. Albert Einstein

Hick is a pefect example for proving Einstein’s theory that some human beings have no ability to think for themselves, based on their total lack of common sense. In “Hick’s world” the CIA replaced Michael Jackson’s Demerol with an undetectable heart-stoping drug to take the media’s eyes off our government’s passing climate-change/energy bill that will put this nation in financial ruin. The reality is that the liberal left has already accepted the “notion” that man is the sole cause of global warming/climate change, (which is the biggest hoax of the 21st century), and without a total reversal of industrial marketing growth, (aka: capitalism), the world will perish in total darkness. Historians will write stories of this period when lemmings such as Hick failed miserably to apply COMMON SENSE in their thought process, (later described as a racially enhanced depreciation of brain-cell matter), and blamed their deficiency on the conspiracy that the CIA put something in their drinking water.

obama wants the thugs of the world to have free rein. the reason that he is doing anything in the nat’l security arena that Bush did is because he knows that even the far left libs will revolt if he allows a terrorist attack on SF, Chicago, Las Vegas, LA or Detroit. or anywhere in Mass.

mz.josephine on June 27, 2009 at 10:51 AM

The solution to this problem is a new election, which is actually prescribed in the Twentieth Amendment when a president-elect (voted in by the electors) fails to qualify. Or at least the vice-president-elect is to function as pt until a president is chosen who DOES qualify.

The qualifications for president are his age and natural-born citizen status. The only way to determine either one is by looking (at the very least) at a long-form birth certificate. Obama has posted a forged COLB – the federal crime of document fraud. I don’t think he would do that if he didn’t have a good reason – like not having a valid one that said what he wanted it to say.

And in applying for a COLB he could have left out any information he didn’t want included on the verification. If he was embarrassed about his father he could have asked for a COLB verifying only his name and birth place. The evidence suggests he didn’t have ANY valid COLB. Fightthesmears’ COLB had no seal, Factcheck #5’s seal doesn’t fold with the bend, and FActcheck #1 is missing lines of print that are in Factcheck #5, showing that there was no valid seal for Factcheck to do a close-up of. How would this be, if Obama gave them anything that was validated by a seal?

There is a case that WND reported on where the plaintiffs are suing the people in DC who are supposed to make sure the president-elect is qualified. The judge has allegedly said that the case is an important Constitutional issue and that the case will move forward expeditiously on its merits once the defendants have someone to represent them.

I’m getting to the point where I don’t believe anybody in government, but if this nation is going to be saved, I think it pretty much has to be this way. Even at that, there may be riots and the Revolutionary War will have to be fought again in the streets. But that’s the best-case scenario anybody has come up with anyway so maybe this pesky little act of FOLLOWING THE LAW may actually bring this confrontation to a head.

The word to describe this sort of behavior is “juvenile.” Obama’s actions, and those of his WH staff, smack of fraternity highjinks, but with potentially deadly consequences. If I might make a Suggestion.

Those of us who are in towns of the schools where BHO attended might try getting the attendance records of O-hole, classes, anything not covered. Some stuff is sealed, but running a friendly ad in the school paper asking for pictures, articles, anything. There was a rumor he was married in school (based on a picture of o-hole with a wedding band). Those records would not, could not be sealed (where would he marry, and who?). Look under the Barry name as well as others. I would also submit requests for BHO’s records, anything you can legally obtain. Get back issues of the school papers, anything. I would also inquire at the local police station as to archived files. We all agree BHO has not been vetted, so who better to vet him that an internet army? If we are going to do something, let us at least take the fight to the enemy.

Commment below.

If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly until a President or Vice President shall have qualified.
Congress is as much the problem as the President, the majority is in his pocket so I don’t look to them as a solution. The Birth Certificate issue is so far under the radar no one cares.

The socialist best-known falling hope-n-change leftist angel’s mantel is BOcipher. BOcipher is a name which will be given to this usuper. This usuper is one who wrongfully seizes and holds reign over America’s future at present. BOcipher would prefer to rule rather than to govern us. He is not an American first president but a BOcipher first and foremost type of individual. His demise is a foregone conclusion. We must persevere by being persistent and refusing to stop believing in our true American spirit of the values of life, liberty and pursuit of property.
.
It is obvious to me that BOcipher weighs his decisions on how it benefits his own ends first rather than what is in the best interest of the American citizenry.
.
Case in point is with this reversal of detainee situation. He realizes now that all his rhetoric prior to this reversal was not thought all the way through. It is a common failing with this usurper. He changed his mind on indefinite detention and kept his mouth shut by not being forthcoming about another blunder due of his lack understanding of how the real world situational consequesenses. This is not his first time nor will it be his last. BOcipher self-aggrandizement and his lack of reasoning abilities is quite the “telling” to the people of America. If the media would just quit sucking on his —–> toes. I make no misinterpretations of this president’s mindset or of his agendas. Either he goes down in flames or the great legacy of America does. What say you America?

They went socialist, non-interventionists generations ago and hated Bush.

katy on June 27, 2009 at 10:58 AM

They did, indeed, as did Australia, but my point was that they also looked at any legislation/policy that originated in America, and if it could bring in more money for the coffers, or help their Socialist agenda, they followed it.

EPA, climate change, PC, rights, just to name a few.

This is the main reason for my following Hot Air. America is the most influential country on this planet, and anything bad that comes from her will quickly be adopted by the Left in other, so-called, free countries.

It is the reason I support the Right, even when we disagree.

This is the perfect example of why our founding fathers declared only American-born presidents can serve in the White House. When the president is Kenyan, it allows lies and deception of those he leads to be acceptable as long as it coincides with his Kenyan roots. His intent is to bring the supremacy of the American way of life to its knees in order to redistribute the wealth to those who have no clue how to create it. The death blow to our economy will be the result of the democratic process of voting for it to happen.

They also think America is letting the entire free world down big time, and they think this is intentional by this administration. Much of the free world feels let down by America.-Keemo on June 27, 2009 at 10:14 AM

The world got what it wanted, now they are learning the hard way the true meaning of the old adage “Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.”. A diplomat from Latin America said at a party last year “If America elects Obama within six months we will all be wishing for the ‘good old days’ of George W. Bush.” He was right.

America has sure found herself in a precarious situation.
We realize Obama is unfit for the job, but what can be done?
The Line of Succession, in the case of impeachment would give us #1 V.P. Do not count on elections solving this one. The Corruptocrats have the election process rigged so oour “elections” will look an awful lot like the ones in Iran and Venezuela.

In the end I am afraid that the only solution to it will be a simple one. Rope. Corruptocrat. Tree. Some assembly required. Optional shovel not included.

You know what word I haven’t been hearing the Democrats use much lately? “Bipartisan”. It’s almost like it was just a political ploy.-JohnJ on June 27, 2009 at 11:06 AM

The Corruptocrats idea of “bipartisanship” is “You better start goose steeping along with us and worship the 0bamamessiah or we will toss you in a ‘reeducation camp’.”

Absolutely, but I have to comment that Mary Bono in Palm Springs must have a death wish because NO ONE, save for the Vegas community will be beaten down harder by their energy use than the Palm Springs community. Between the air conditioning and the oxygen tanks, they’ve already used all their “credits” until 2060.

anniekc on June 27, 2009 at 10:11 AM

Is that Sonny’s daughter?

As for A/C bills in LV and Palm Springs….they voted for Ogabe, now they will taste what it means.

The silver lining to Ogabe’s actions is that it is/will affect the blue states more than the red states. Look at unemployment rates. You can almost draw a linear correlation between high unemployment and support for Ogabe.

angryed on June 27, 2009 at 11:20 AM

it would be interesting if citizens were to start using the courts against the hierarchy of leadership – but interesting in a bad way. The line of succession is so tainted at this point, we’re probably best with the devil in charge, because the next 5 are as bad or worse.

All that said, the lying and deceit should be chronicled – but even if it is, the left owns the language, and will redefine all terms to ensure that the public can not discern the truth. Bill Clinton laid a masterful road map to the art of lies with his “It depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is”

Politicians since then have scaled that little experiment up to the production scale and now the entire body politic operates on a destructive type of malleable truth.

My point is very simple: If there is a solution (which I tend to doubt) it will come from regaining owndership of the language of the body of the country.

I’m sorry, fwiw. There’s a reverse story too. Allowing the entire world to denigrate the US on a daily basis, with practically nobody supporting us publicly, was too much for many people in the US to bear. They didn’t want to be hated; their constitutions aren’t strong enough to withstand that. So they gave in and said you must be right, we’re bad. We’ll become libs like the rest of you. I think America bashing is proving to have costs to the bashers as well. How couldn’t it?

pilamaye on June 27, 2009 at 11:38 AM

I posted this on a different thread earlier, but it will work here as well….

Heres a start…
We the People are VERY, VERY angry!! We ALL know the true cost of your vote!! We ARE coming for ALL of you!! YOU WORK FOR US!! You voted for a massive 1,300 page bill that YOU NEVER READ!! You voted the largest tax hike EVER!! You voted for the largest expansion of government EVER!! The 1,300 page bill, that you never read, puts government in control of an additional(at best), 20% of this country’s economy!! You will NOT be given another chance!! We will ALL put our last, thin, tax weakened dollars into the campaigns of YOUR opponents!! It matters NOT to us whether there is an R or a D after their name!! It matters NOT to us which part of this great country you run in, because we are ALL in the United States of America!! We will boycott any product, service or business that run their ads with media/news outlets that are not doing the job of investigative reporting. We will close, transfer or cash out financial accounts of all kinds, we’ll shift investments and roll over retirement accounts, IRA’s, 401k’s, ect., all in an effort to keep our money from finding its way into YOUR campaign via their contribution! You may allow your “leader” to decide your vote, BUT We The People decide our own!!

Every day I wake up and tell myself that this Administration, this Congress, this Senate and the sate run media can not possibly get any worse, until they do. Every night I fall asleep aware of the real fear I have for my children and the country we will leave them, but find comfort in knowing millions and millions of others also feel that fear, but ,like me, they also feel rising intensity of the spirit that will lead us through, what we know in our heart comes.

Where do I sign up for the Revolution? I’m Ready.

Mary Bono is Sonny Bono’s widow. When he died skiing into a tree, of all things, she ran for his open seat and won. He was a fairly effective rep for his district. This is the first time I have seen her name in the news since I moved from California a few years ago. It is disappointing that it is on the list of traitors to the economy of the country. Conservatives need to mount a challenge in the primary next year and get rid of her.

I think Sonny Bono only had one daughter, Chastity, with Cher. However, she either is going to do or had just done, a sex reassignment surgery and I think her new name is Chas and is now a he, or will be a he.

John McCain is the one we can thank for not investigating, or at least not persuing Obama’s past. He wanted Rev. Right and Bill Ayers and Obama’s past all off the table. He went so far as to say publicly not to fear Obama. I lost all respect for McCain after that. We can’t even see his admission applications from college. For the life of me, I can’t quite figure out why everyone is frothing over this and carrying on as if Obi-One is following G. Dubya. I think everyone is doing exactly what the Dems and folks around the world did when Obi-One spoke: putting their own meaning to his words.

If Obi-One decided “to hold suspected terrorist detainees indefinitely,” it is quite unlikely he’s following Bush administration policy. It is MORE likely that Obi-One is articulating his own policy vis-a-vis all folks on the right whom he perceives as threatening. Remember, Obi-One does not use the word “terrorist” to signify Islamic terrorist. Instead, he uses it in reference to those who do not genuflect to him. Thus, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, and every one of us here is a “terrorist” in his mind. He has laid the groundwork for imprisoning his political opponents rather than those who want to kill Americans.

Now, start frothing cuz we are in his gunsights.

Why would we want to? That’s what got us in this predicament in the first place. We tried to do the compromise dance, crossing the aisle and all that sort of thing. It didn’t work. I vote for taking the high road. It’s been so long since anyone has actually done that, maybe people will see it as the real change, not the Obama bait-and-switch.

fourdeucer on June 27, 2009 at 10:08 AM

Don’t do anything.

Look – the only thing we need to do is stop Nationalized Health Care – once that’s done – it can’t be undone.

But the more of a hole the Democrats dig here – the more easily a REAL Conservative will be elected in 2010. I’ve sent an email to my Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu – and I’ve given her my endorsement to vote for Cap and Trade – because (and I told her this) – “it’s going to be one more nail in the democratic coffin”. I’ve basically dared her to vote for it – and I encourage others to do likewise with their democratic Senators.

Fact is – the people voted for this stuff – they weren’t paying attention and they gave their votes to Socialists. Once they see their electric bills double, triple … once they see gas prices go through the roof … once they see their taxes go up … they’ll be more likely to vote CONSERVATIVE.

All of this will make President Palin the greatest President in the history of the U.S. – once she sells off the car companies, gives the finiancial institutions their freedom back, REPEALS CAP AND TRADE, and ENDS GOVERNMENT FAVORATISM TOWARD UNIONS …

She will turbo-charge the American economy again and put significant and TANGIBLE dollars back into the hands of working Americans.

Let the Democrats do their worst – give them every stupid thing they want except that which can’t be undone – stop Health Care.

I believe the stage is being set here for a very chilling future.

Look at what leeway the messiah has bestowed upon himself in this story, combine it with the DHS report about how all of us “right wing extremists” are nothing more than terrorists to be watched, you can see where it is going.

All that is missing is the battlefield conditions that would allow the leftist goons to justify actions against anyone they deem to be terrorists.

When we are attacked again by Barry’s new buddies (formerly known as “terrorists”), will that qualify our country as a battlefield? At that time will the socialists in DC have free reign to do what they want to who they want for as long as they want?

I agree with most of what you have presented…save for one small item…Governor Palin.

Yes, she has the moxie and a growing track record, and speaks to truth well…but if we expect to win back both the White House and Congress we need to concentrate on principles not personalities. Thus, any member of Congress who voted in favor of cap and trade…needs to be marked with the scarlet letter and made pariah. No GOP funds should go to any of them henceforth. Governor Sanford? Any member of Congress who says he should keep his job (not about sex, but about abandoning South Carolina and being derelict in his legal obligations to the state) and he needs to go…sooner rather than later..and any GOP members of Congress who try to get him to keep his job…they need to be served up on a platter as well.

Yes, Sarah Palin has a growing list of qualifications, and if Obama is the new standard, hell, I have better qualifications than Obama. But, when we get ahead of ourselves and start concentrating on personalities this soon…the Left will evicerate any we offer up, fabricating lies and inuendoes…or they choose for us…and in the end we get the same old same old.

We can take back Congress in 2010. The current Congress is writing our campaign ads for us as each day goes by under Reid and Pelosi…and Obama is writing 2012 campaign ads for us…as each day goes by.

Conservatism…and a healthy dose of federalism needs to be the new gold standard for the Right. If any candidate or potential candidate shows themselves unworthy or unwilling to comply with the basics, the RNC must be made to take note and forbid the expenditure of GOP funding for any of them.

Then as we approach 2012 after taking back Congress in 2010 and turning off the tap at the federal trough, and undoing the major damage inflicted during the past 150 or so days of Obama…then we can marry up candidates such as Sarah Palin or others to the ballot who have the track record and the recognition necessary to bowl over the Obamatrons.

The Messiah.
We don’t know anything about him, really, because his handlers deftly sanitized his bio and developed a catchy “hope and change” campaign to get him elected. They freely lied about anything and everything to mold the candidate and his positions into a package that appealed to just enough voters to get into office. Now that the election is over, he systematically sheds the positions that made him electable and pushes the real agenda. The push has to be fast, to bowl over the opposition and force what is clearly a socialist agenda on a majority of Americans heretofore disinterested in the boring details of foreign and domestic policy (mainly because it didn’t usually matter who was in charge because neither party affected things enough for them/us to notice.) The only risk to them is if the sleeping majority are jarred awake before the takeover is complete.
Quit hitting the snooze button, America.

“Powerful political pragmatism” is a nice alliterative euphemism for in-your-face hypocrisy from one of the biggest liars and frauds to ever occupy the Oval Office. The ex-Senator from Illinois is the same smug, self-righteous turd who sneeringly informed us during the campaign that he was a brilliant Constitutional scholar who, unlike the ignorant Bush, actually understood and respected the Constitution, and would therefore never do things such as hold prisoners indefinitely.
