GOP weekly address nukes the stimulus: “Where are the jobs?”

Submitted for your approval, a preview of the line of attack Republicans far and wide will be using next year in the midterms distilled to three crystalline minutes. It’s all here: The gigantic stimulus waste, the travesty of cap-and-trade, and (soon) the unholy bloat of ObamaCare. Toss in Heritage’s now-famous graph of Obama’s deficits and Innocent Bystanders’ chart of how dismally the stimulus has failed to stem unemployment and you’re 90 percent of the way towards a generic GOP congressional campaign commercial for spring 2010.
Sure would be nice if we had a spokesman on the Republican side with Obama’s confidence and charisma, but this’ll do. Boehner’s having a good week, huh?

I would of been tuff for Palin to do it with her being overseas visiting the troops and a military hospital in Germany.

I emailed all of our Hoosier representatives except for the Corruptocrat Visclosky. I got the standard form email back from Ellsworth.
And, yes. I do think Mitch Daniels (and his conservative credentials) would add an interesting mix in 2012.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on June 27, 2009 at 6:38 PM
At the risk of coming across as a “Palin drone”, I’m going to take the bait.
I hate women in power. My 30 years of work experience makes me cringe at the thought of a woman in charge. In my 30 years of working for and with men and women, I would pick men any day. A confident, competent, woman in a position of authority is a rare exception.
Sarah Palin is such an exception. I would vote for Sarah Palin for president, not because she’s a woman, but I would vote for her because she’s the best person at the right time.
My dream ticket would be Sarah as president and Fred! as VP.
But to the video:
First of all, I had to go back up to remember his name. Boner something. Oh, yeah, John Boehner. Good luck with that.
Second of all, who placed the Teleprompters so that he wasn’t looking in the camera? Not a good move.
Third: he needs to work on his reading-from-a-script skills. It was pretty obvious he didn’t write it himself because his inflection and cadence was off. If he read it at all before the camera started rolling, he should practice more the next time. If he did write it himself, he needs to practice with a Telepromter more because he sucks at it.
Sarah Palin not only gives a great speech, she can actually speak off the top of her head and sound intelligent. Why? Becaue she’s sincere. She obviously believes everything she says.
I’m not even a conservative and I hope she runs in 2012. I’d vote for her in a second.
Jaynie59 on June 27, 2009 at 6:41 PM
Boehner is getting in some practice, I see…
Since I predicted a couple weeks back that he’s gonna be the GOP front-runner…and my candidate of choice…for the 2012 POTUS race. He’s just gotta work a little on not looking like he’s reading from a teleprompter.
But alas, Boehner is spot-on. Where ARE all those jobs? Didn’t we NEED to rush porkulus through, so we could not only save millions of current jobs, but also so companies like…say, Caterpillar…could start re-hiring right away?
JetBoy on June 27, 2009 at 6:41 PM
We do have that politician.
His name is Mitt Romney.

If I were the “opposition,” I’d point out that this is the idea.
Talk about trickle down?
This is trickle up.
If you reject trickle down, you’re also going to be skeptical of trickle up.
That’s the “edge” in.

Boehner’s a party hack who would like to run a big government except that he has the misfortune to belong to the party with a conservative base. He was tried and found lacking and shoud be dumped as leader before the next Congress convenes.

If Republicans want to get their meassage (such as it is) out to the voters, it’s going to have to be over the dead bodies of the MSM. (Figuratively speaking, of course.)
oldleprechaun on June 27, 2009 at 6:48 PM
Republicans seem to be among the worst speakers in the world. Boehner sucks at giving a speech.
This needs to appeal to a person’s emotions. Something like -
Has the stimulus put you back to work? Of course not. President Obama and Speaker Pelosi claimed we had to rush the stimulus bill through without even reading it. Now,4 months later, the money is still sitting in Washington.

Karl Rove said on FoxNews this morning that if this became law, the oil companies would shut down their refineries and just import the finished products because it would be cheaper. I don’t think he said it, but couldn’t they make a fortune by selling their “carbon credits”?
THAT’s a path to “energy independence”,, right Uhhbama?
darwin-t on June 27, 2009 at 6:52 PM
The elephant in the room, and something which crosses all areas across the board is illegals. Not one of the issues being brought up by the Dems, and GOP is not tainted by the illegal problem.
From health care to jobs, to demands on energy sources; illegals are a factor. If the GOP would just insist the laws of this land were to be enforced, much of our problems would ease, or disappear with nary one tax dollar, or taxes being raised. Build the damn fence!
As to defeating President Death Star, his skin is thin. The last presser demonstrated that in a big way. If the GOP would combine their criticisms with his words, bad policy decisions on his part, and clear alternative answers, the President nor any of his Administration will be able to control themselves. Quite frankly, I have yet to see anyone truly intelligent enough to deal with any of our possible POTUS nominees. Navel lint has more intelligence than what we currently have running this country.

Why can’t Congress do common sense?
This administration abetted by this Congress is writing a new
chapterbooktrilogy in American history. The Rape of America; Volume One was the “Stimulus.” Volume Two is Cap and Tax, thinly disguised as a “Climate Bill.” Volume Three is being prepared under the misnomer “Health Care Reform.”How much more can we bear? It is difficult to view these actions as anything but an assault on our way of life and our freedom.

Jaynie59 on June 27, 2009 at 6:54 PM
Will you stop with this stupidity, already? What do you think the “cap” in Cap&Trade means? It is a limit to production, which is something far, far worse than any tax.
How many times does this have to be explained to you?

Not exactly a “great communicator” Boner is a looser. Not the guy for 2012. I’m sorry but neither is Mitt. I have yet to see the right wing messiah, I have seen some promising prospects but no one has nailed it yet.
Having said that, the talking points are about right. The rest of the party need to keep hammering these points home over the next few years. Where are the results? We already know the economy is not going to respond favorably to the lefts agenda. Just keep hitting them with the question, offer alternatives and hope that that one bright shining light will emerge to lead the pack.

I’ve said the same, Jaynie.
I am a man, with his typical prejudices. I, too, think that that the American Presidency is a man’s job.
In history, there have been few women that have risen to level of greatness such as Hapshepsut and Cleopatra of Egypt, Catherine of Russia, Elizabeth of England, and that amazing young woman Joan of Arc. There may be a some more, but the list is sparse.
In Palin, there are conspicuous hints that she has what it takes to be the President of the United States, and if she were to rise to that occasion, it would be a fair bet that her name would be gilded onto that exclusive list. History would be marked by her name for a thousand years.
This possibility is the quake that rattles the earth under the feet of the tyrannical, internationalist establishment. They know she has the potential for the type of cataclysmic shift in political power that shakes the world.
She would be revolutionary.

jgapinoy on June 27, 2009 at 8:05 PM
I had to e-mail the leader today and tell him what a great job he did yesterday, reading those 300 pages that Waxman dropped into this bill at 3 a.m. Hopefully McConnell will take a few lessons to handle this travesty in the Senate.
I also mentioned to Rep. Boehner that I hoped the Republicans were taking lessons from the Democrats so, when they win back the House in 2010, they know how to treat the minority.
bflat879 on June 27, 2009 at 8:06 PM

A friend of mine has a hypothesis that women are not as prepared to work as part of a team or be a team leader due to the fact that a vast number of women have very little participation in team sports while going through school. I’m not sure whether I agree or disagree but I do feel that participating in team sports while growing up does help to prepare a person for working as part of a team when they are an adult. If I am not mistaken, Sarah Palin was the point guard of her basketball team while in school and the point guard in basketball is usually the leader of the team.

I, at one time, was a boss and a single Mom. I was divorced because my former husband beat the hell out of me, and our two 15 month olds. Pardon me if I do not agree with your over generalization. Until you have walked a mile in some of our shoes, I do not think anyone can understand what some divorced women think or do. Divorce has a way of warping people. It is rather sad.

If some here do not like women in politics, get ready to freak out. Many women I know are empty nesters, and in their early to mid forties like Sarah Palin. They are fed up with politics as usual, and want their country back. Quite frankly, we are an awesome group of women who are more than ready to take on the likes of Reid and Pelosi. We have spines of steel!
For Conservative women to become involved in politics, it is not meant as any disrespect for men, most of these women adore men, but in case you have people have not noticed, men, real men are under assault. This Administration has declared war on middle class males. Many of you are running around like chickens with your heads cut off trying to find jobs, or trying to keep the ones you have. Men are trying to save their families and all they own.
Some women have spent very up close, and personal time with many of the issues this country is facing. We pay the bills, and have a clue as to what a loaf of bread, and gallon of gas cost. We get the entire educational debacle because some of us have homeschooled. If our kids have attended public schools, we have grand ideas on how to improve them without spending a dime. If we have kids who attended private schools, we would like to not have to pay taxes for public schools we are not using.
Many a Conservative woman has experienced baptism by fire for just being a Conservative woman. We have worked with a multitude of charities, are well aware of racial problems, are caring for aging parents, and own guns. Some of us are better shots than our Marine father. LOL! We have also sent our children off to war, to protect this nation from terrorist.
So, if you think women should not be in politics, or a future President of these United States of America, get ready for your heads to explode. We are coming like the Calvary! We have our ass kickin’ boots on, and man oh man are we ready for one hell of a fight with the scum in Washington! My advice, get out of our way, we have a country to save!

I get that. My kids have been playing team sports since they were eight. And there is some merit to this line of thinking. Playing sports of any kind is good for kids, and most of the time keeps them out of trouble.
However, team sports come in all sorts of flavors. Trust me, vacation Bible school could be considered a team sport. It certainly felt that way after I came home from teaching a group of seven year olds. For two weeks!
Participating in the American Heart Assoc., or any other charity group takes a lot of “team” work. Certainly your friend does not think all these charity type events sprung out of one person, and not a flock of women working like mad behind the scenes to obtain the art for an auction, or someone for entertainment?
Ever been to a wedding? Now there is some “team” work which at times might require drugs, or massive amounts of alcohol! But somehow, through “team” work, couples are married, photos are taken, people are fed and entertained, and most of the time blood is not spilt.
Maintaining a family is “team” work of the highest order! Tell that to your friend. And by the way, I do not know what part of the country you live in, but down here in the South, we girls play more team sports than you can shake a stick at!

The latter usually being their preference. That all being said, at least this is a tiny baby step in the right direction. If Palin and the Republicans would get on the band wagon for the creation of high paying private sector jobs (and there are numerous opportunities for these) they’d soon be back on top again. Republicans: be an advocate for US workers. DD

I don’t think it really matters about the 8 republicans that voted for it. Pelosi would have just twisted the arm of 8 more democrats to vote yes. She had it all worked out – the democrats who would be allowed to vote no to make sure they would keep their seat.

I like your style. This country could use a Golda Meir or Maggie Thatcher since the GOP country clubbers need a SEM to find a pair.

And that is why those 8 votes mattered. Now those Dems get a pass on their No votes.

Let’s be honest about this: that bill was going to pass the House one way or another. What those RINOs did was simply give cover to at least 4 Blue Dog Dems. Nice work d***heads.
I suppose however, their thinking went as follows: “Hmmm Pelosi needs a few more votes, well, SOMEONE’S going to get their back scratched and since it’s going to pass anyway, it might as well be me.”

LOL! Good to hear your friend has not warped you! Thanks for coaching. We have spent the last ten years in club soccer, and ODP soccer. Coaches are way under paid, and over worked. Many have regular jobs on top of coaching and families. Thanks again for spending time with our greatest resources, our yutes!

McCain unleashed what we had been waiting for quite some time. (Insert many evil sounding snickers here, and one shout out to Steve Schmidt to dry up and blow away!) Like her or not, Hillary had a political power on display not many Conservative women in America had seen in quite some time. She was public. Everyone knew who she was, and what she believed. Juxtapose that with Sarah Palin. Different views of the world, but now she is public, and everyone knows who she is!
Yes, Democrat women and Conservative women have a lot in common. Even on the abortion issue we have a lot in common. The main departure is we would like for it to be a state issue, or reheard at the Supreme Court, whereas most Democrat women would like Roe v. Wade to stay as it is. But I have not spoken with a Democrat woman who is in favor of partial birth abortion. Not one. In addition, Democrat women feel very alienated by their party as well. We agree on educational issues, and how inner city schools issues must be addressed. Many of them even favor vouchers! Of course this is after it is explained how they work and the results of voucher educated children.
Thank you. It is the Scottish, Irish, Italian in me that makes me so passionate! It also gets me into a lot of trouble! LOL! I would not play well in the sandbox with politicians, but I am a very good behind the scenes supporter of those who chose to be the front guy.
We need a fleet of Maggie Thatchers. Except for her dislike of soccer, or futbol as they say. My girls were horrified to here she did not like soccer! LOL! I am so glad I was alive during the Reagan-Thatcher era. I am also determined to bring it back come hell, or high water. Ooops, there goes the Irish-Scottish part of me! The Italian part says, if they will not come along peacefully, then we should make all those in Washington a fine pair of cement shoes. If they cannot walk on water with them on, well that is their problem. Some of them claimed they could make the seas recede! Insert eye rolling here!

I am not too concerned about candidates. Well, short of McLame or someone like him.
By 2011 the voters will want to run The One out of town on a rail — unless the economy turns around. If that happens, all bets are off.
If things get bad enough, even the media will not be able to save their incompetent bedmate.

Here is a speech on the US House floor by Thad McCotter about Neda, the lady that was murdered in Iran. He can say more in less time of anyone I know.

Oh yeah, I stood there and watched him do it with great glee! SARC!
Have you ever heard of escalating violence? And have you ever been in any type of situation like a battered woman? It is real easy for people to stand back and judge. Far too easy. No sympathy huh? So I guess if it happened twice, because I believed him the first time that he would never do it again, then I am just so deserving of your compassionate conclusion?
Oh, and there are women in jail currently for killing their abusive husbands. Not to mention that whole “Thou shalt not kill” deal in the Ten Commandments.
Let me just enlighten you, there are many a woman, and many a child who are in situations not so easily, or quickly resolved. Some are poor women with children who have no family to turn to, and there are wealthy women with too much pride, and a lot of fear from powerful husbands and friends. Abusive men tend to alienate their wives from having friends, or attending church. It is not as if there are flashing billboards everywhere saying, “Come here if you are being abused”.
This whole Chris Brown deal in CA is not unusual either. He got off very lightly, but as Megyn Kelly said, abuse cases are still not punished as they should be. Drew Peterson comes to mind in having a spouse filing police reports. For your viewing pleasure, watch, “Gaslight”, “Burning Bed”, “Sleeping With the Enemy”, “The Betty Broderick Story”, “Love Me or Leave Me”, “Fried Green Tomatoes”, “What’s Love Got to Do With It”, “The Color Purple”, “Dead by Sunset”, “Dangerous Intentions”, and especially “A Cry for Help:The Tracy Thurman Story”.
