Video: House holds moment of silence for Michael Jackson

No, as far as I know, Neda and the victims of the Iran crackdown never got one of their own — but they did get a resolution of support, so never mind that comparison. What’s more irritating here, that the House would interrupt national business for this or that JJJ would have the stones to pay tribute to the “grace” and “mercy” of a guy who was accused of child molestation more than once and was known to pay $20+ million settlements in hush money to his accusers? Atheist bonus points to Junior for framing it as an “if there is a God” question, oblivious as he is to the implications for that subject if one believes Michael was “blessed” with a penchant for kiddie-fondling. Like Treacher says, it’s a good thing those cherubs have wings; they’re going to need them.
As I write this, the websites of CNN, FNC, ABC, and NBC are still in full banner mode. The only outlet not smoking the Jacko cracko is CBS. Thank god it’s Friday. Click the image to watch.

I think what he did while he was alive would ensure he’s now totally separated from anything resembling cherubs.

My6 last comment on this. All of the people screaming about “He abused kids”, “sick freak”, and “drug abuser” make me physically ill. He was not convicted of Child Molestation in a court of law. That’s good enough for me. The same thing goes for OJ as well. If you’re not convicted, then you are found to be not guilty. It’s a sad state of affairs when people will denigrate you and still consider you guilty of things you were never convicted of.
BTW, where was all the condemnation of, and calling Heath Ledger a drug abuser when he died of an overdose? Oh that’s right, you liked Heath Ledger and absolutely hated Michael Jackson. Bash the man all you want if that’s how you get your sense of Moral Superiority. I’ll have no part of it.
Hick on June 26, 2009 at 1:38 PM
Yeah, sure…he just happened to have invited only welfare kids to his house…of course they were suspect, they were at the bottom of the “food chain”, and made to appear as trailer trash.
They attacking “welfare moms” is not any different from Carville stating “you never know who you’re going to get when you drag 20 dollars through a trailer park”.
Minimizing a persons status is not an uncommon tactic…
You think he is “innocent”…most think he wasn’t.
I guess in your world, unless you are perfect, and have a perfect mom, you can’t be trusted…

It’s a safe bet that MJ fans are probably also Barry supporters, so All I Wanna Say Is They Don’t Really Care About Us!
Christien on June 26, 2009 at 1:39 PM
Just playing devil’s advocate here, but one of the mothers who accused Jackson was, at the time, also being investigated for welfare fraud, IIRC.
She was out for an easy buck.
I’m not saying MJ was innocent, I’m just very careful about accusing people of such things based on “evidence” seen in tabloid stories.
UltimateBob on June 26, 2009 at 1:40 PM
Another similarity between Jackson and the filthy liar in the White House- A willingness to swamp any problem in cash. Of course Jackson was spending his own and the filthy liar is spending ours.

He’s only hated because of his skin color.

They can take time for this but not take time to read the multi-trillion $$ debacle they want to force on us? Oh, I cannot WAIT until 2010. Although, I will say my Rep from Michigan is the one in the Solid No column and not the one who doesn’t care if this destroys Michigan or not. You’re on your way out, Ehlers.

Bingo…
dmann on June 26, 2009 at 1:42 PM
You’re really putting a lot of words in my mouth that I never said.
I never said MJ was INNOCENT, he was just never proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
I suppose you have no doubts that he molested those kids? I’d like to see your proof.
UltimateBob on June 26, 2009 at 1:42 PM
Being found not guilty, and being innocent are two entirely different things.
So a young man is accused of child molestation, everyone in the neighborhood knows this, he was tried, but not convicted.
He comes over to babysit your small son…do you let him, he is not “guilty”, do you allow him to watch your son for the evening?
I doubt it…get it now? Would you allow your son to stay alone at MJ ranch, and sleep in his bed?
right2bright on June 26, 2009 at 1:42 PM
How does one human being die with that much debt? They should publish his creditors so the public can discontinue using those companies, they deserve to go belly up.

This may be an appropriate time to review what LAPD investigators found in MJ’s home during the 2003 Neverland Ranch police raid.

Hick on June 26, 2009 at 1:38 PM
No , Hick, you are wrong. The majority of us that post here think both are tragic wastes of talented lives. The difference is that Heath Ledger’s pattern of behaviour showed no signs of being stuck in a Peter Pan world of delusion and pedophila. His death was brought about by a quick descension into a very dark world of depression resulting in death by drug abuse. The world has been watching Michael’s descension for a very long time. So has his family. Why didn’t they seek help for him before he began disfiguring and debasing himself?
kingsjester on June 26, 2009 at 1:46 PM
Declaring OJ innocent is always a brilliant thread winner.
LibTired on June 26, 2009 at 1:46 PM
But OJ was convicted during the civil trial. MJ may have gotten off on the criminal charges as well but enough evidence came out to confirm that he was one creepy dude.
Here’s the bottom line. I’m not one of those out there calling Michael Jackson a pedophile but I’m also realistic enough to not gloss over all the weirdness of his life in later years. Mostly I appreciate the music he made and leave discussions of the creepiness out of the equation. That being said you are dead wrong when you equate not convicted with innocent.
highhopes on June 26, 2009 at 1:46 PM
First, I don’t need to “prove” it, this is a court of public opinion.
I would not allow my young son to stay at his ranch and sleep in his bed, as MJ said happend.
You apparently would because you don’t see anything wrong with that. And if you wouldn’t, on what basis, are you accusing him?
We have a difference of opinion.
right2bright on June 26, 2009 at 1:46 PM
Heath who?
atheling on June 26, 2009 at 1:46 PM
I agree. Love him, or hate him, he was simply a man, who was fallalble, like the rest of us.
God doesn’t show distinction, as to who was a celebrity, and who was not. Michael has to face the same repurcussions we do.
I won’t say anything disrespectful about him..as I don’t like to speak ill of the dead, but life goes on, and for these news organizations, to spend so much time on this, is a tad rediculous. Did Ed Macmahon get such a prayer, or time of silence? He was a Marine, who flew, in 2 wars after all. A patriot.
capejasmine on June 26, 2009 at 1:46 PM
Can they have a moment of silence in memory of our nations economy, healthcare and sanity of congress.
shick on June 26, 2009 at 1:47 PM
The thing about MJ is that he had great popularity with both white and black audiences. He was really the first recording artist to achieve it on that scale.
At the height of his fame the Reagans had him visit the White House, in part as a spokesman against drugs. Reagan called Jackson: “proof of what a person can accomplish through a lifestyle free of alcohol or drug abuse”. Of course Jackson proved that one can squander a life with drugs.

Do you believe that conservatives are supposed to approve or be protective of Mark Foley’s behavior because he called himself a “Republican”?
Buddahpundit on June 26, 2009 at 1:49 PM
No, actually it isn’t. The man/child/whatever isn’t even dead for 24 hours. Isn’t there some room for compassion here? Why dredge all this stuff up right this moment? There is something unseemly about going out of the way to figuratively stomp on the corpse at this point in time.

What struck me about him being in so much debt was the fact that he still lived in a mansion. How does that happen?
Geronimo on June 26, 2009 at 1:52 PM
Our U.S. Congress takes time to ask for a moment of silence to honor Michael Jackson. But what about our economy. It’s already dead but we are to stupid to know it.
It’s like our U.S. Congress is dragging around a corpse not unlike “Weekend at Bernie’s”.

I saw what looked like an innocent little squirrel squished to death on the road driving home yesterday. It made me feel a little sad. Jackson’s death – absolutely nothing.
Joe Bloggs on June 26, 2009 at 1:53 PM
That’s the same thing that the witch hunters said in the Salem witch trials in 1692.
Once again, you’re putting a lot of words in my mouth that I never said and jumping to wrong conclusions.
I wouldn’t let my kids sleep over at anyone’s house who I didn’t know well, famous or not. Just because I know his music or see him on TV, that does not mean that I know someone enough to trust my kids with them.
This is getting nowhere. please stick to the facts and don’t accuse me of saying things I never said.
UltimateBob on June 26, 2009 at 1:53 PM
I’m not familiar with House customs, do they also hold moment of silence for dead soldiers? Because, though I find the above video a bit disturbing, I would like to think that at least our fallen heroes get the same respect.
And I have another question because despite the sudden death of two icons, what bothered me yesterday is the fact that no TV channel agreed to air the Troopathon. I’m not sure if you know it, but Israel has been holding telethon for the soldiers for years. It always air on national TV and many celebrities take part in it. It was never right or left issue, after all the Israeli MSM and most Israeli celebrities are lefties. Did the organizers of the troopathon tried to approach TV channels and were rejected? I believe that if the Troopathon airs on TV, celebrities of all political persuasion would take part in it. Granted, not Sean or Susan, but I’m sure there are plenty who would love to do it, enough to generate ratings.
Michelle Dubois on June 26, 2009 at 1:53 PM
One of the first anyway. I’d suggest that some of the MoTown names were just as successful at crossing the color barrier if not more so- given the differences in the music industry of the 1960s compared to the 1980s when Jackson was at his peak.
highhopes on June 26, 2009 at 1:53 PM
The nauseating pity-party over his death provokes a counter-push.
He disgusted me. As much as I enjoyed his Thriller album, his subsequent mutation leaves me glad the POS is dead.

There is nothing wrong with this. MJ deserves even more. I think the stupid empty suit messiah should declare a national day of mourning for MJ.

Jim Treacher on June 26, 2009 at 1:56 PM
Don’t you remember the first couple of years after combat operations began in Iraq and Afghanistan? Everytime the death toll hit another milestone the Democrats would do a little happy dance, make speeches, and then hold a moment of silence supposedly to “honor” the troops but in reality to attack GWB.
Democrats, especially when they are in the majority, are not friends of any military servicemember.

0bama has rendered all black ‘leaders’ insignificant. None will ever rise to that kind of empty stardom. They’re pulling on straws to have anything to do with blacks, including the death of MJ. I bet they hate his, 0bama’s guts. He, smartly, will not declare anything on the “loss of the great MJ”…He’s empty, but shrewd.
Best part was last night’s presser by Al Sharpton. He tried to explain what MJ died of, before anyone knew…uh…ah…mhh…saying absolutely nothing, grasping for relevance.

I wouldn’t allow YOU to babysit my potential kids. Not because I think you’re a pedophile but because I don’t know you. Pretty much the same reason why I wouldn’t allow MJ to babysit my children (plus, pedophile or not, he’s crazy, and crazy people should be taken care of, not take care of others).
The fact remains that MJ was never proven a pedophile and there is considerable evidence that he was hounded by gold diggers. There is also plausible explanation for his weird behavior (he’s nuts; in particular, a state shrink at one of his trials said he has mentally regressed to a 10 year old; he slept with kids because he was having a slumber party, and no girls were there because they have cooties). To piss on his grave with unproven allegations of pedophilia makes you and the rest of the ****s who engage in it disgusting human beings. Do you push people in wheelchairs down the stairs in your free time? I hope to God I’m never falsely accused of something and get you scumbags as my jury.

I think friends came to his aid on a regular basis. I am sure he thought his upcoming concerts were going to cure everything. I wonder if the rehearsals caused him to accidentally overdose? Although he was obviously delusional, the lending institutions that continued to supply him have a duty to the public to expose their own poor judgment.

I feel much the same way but my point is that dead is dead. It’s not honoring Michael Jackson to suggest that we don’t need to take this very moment to bring up all the stuff that made him the subject of such venom. What is the point of doing so?
Even somebody like MJ deserves a little bit of compassion in death. I’m not in favor of bringing up all the pedophile stuff less than 24 hours after MJ’s death. I will not be dredging up Teddy Kennedy’s murderous past the day after he finally kicks the bucket (and you can imagine the way he will be lionized by the MSM). It’s just unseemly to want to drag the corpse around like that when it doesn’t change the very basic fact that dead is dead.
highhopes on June 26, 2009 at 2:07 PM
I don’t know of an earlier Motown act that sold anything near what MJ or the Jackson 5 sold. In the 1960’s the Motown artists didn’t sell near the number of records that an R&B band like the Rolling Stones did.
MJ’s success may have helped open the door for a reconsideration of Motown in the 1980’s, seen in the sales of albums such as The Big Chill and successful tours by a number of the acts.
dedalus on June 26, 2009 at 2:07 PM
For some reason I do not view anyone who dies as a result of a self administered OD of Demerol to be talented or a genius by any standard.I do know that some Lawyers will make a kings ransom in settling his estate. My condolences to his children whose custody will be fought over like a steak thrown to a pack of wolves. My sympathies are with them.
Regarding his music, I was never a fan and feel that the non stop Media coverage is way overdone and willhas become nauseating. I’m more concerned with the fight for Freedom in Iran and keeping an eye on C SPAN to watch the continued rape, pillage and plunder of the American taxpayer.
Congress celebrates the death of Jackson while the victims of the Iran crackdown seeking freedom are getting clubbed, imprisoned and shot. Obama throws big parties for his cronies and this is becoming not my America anymore.
In Iran it is Hungary in 1956 redux.Obama Nation truly sucks.
I could quite frankly give a fat rats rump less about Michael Jackson today. He was an adult that could not manage his life, his finances and OD’ed on Dope. Not worth my time.

So everything you state is proven beyond any reasonable doubt, by a jury?
You don’t have opinions?
Okay, many people form opinions opposite of official findings. It is called “Discernment”, and it what we use to make judgments, without going through a lengthy trail.
You judge that MJ is not a child molester, and is completely without fault along those lines…and I think he is suspect.
I have my opinion…you have your “facts”.
Don’t ever come on here and state Obama is doing a poor job…the “jury” is still out on him, it has only been 7 months, you have to wait for the full four years…I can state, public conservative opinion, is that he is a failure.
How do you ever make a decision?

Chris_Balsz on June 26, 2009 at 2:17 PM
Plenty of talented people and even geniuses have lead tortured lives. Addictions aren’t something limited to the talentless masses. Rush Limbaugh is no less talented of a broadcaster because he was an opiate addict (not that I think he’s a genius, but he’s one of the best broadcasters we’ve ever had).
Consider Sigmund Freud, a brilliant man by all measures, but a man with a decades long addiction to cocaine and who ultimately died by an assisted suicide via morphone. Or Jimi Hendrix, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians (and best guitar players) in the world. Dead at just 27 from sleeping pills and alcohol.
The list is long, I don’t need to continue. To deny someone is talented simply because they had an addiction is immature and speaks much more of you than it does of them.

Wow. OK, take a deep breath and calm down.
Another reality check is called for here: I never said that he was NOT a child molester, only that he was never proven to be one. The guy was a celebrity. He was a target for a lot of accusations, some perhaps true, some perhaps not. Was he suspect? sure. But because I don’t jump to the same conclusions that you do, you question my ability to make decisions?
You should hope that if you are ever convicted of a crime that someone like me would be on your jury. I would take the time to hear both sides of the argument and weigh all of the evidence before sending you to the gallows.
I can’t say the same for you.

I didn’t say I want them to be productive. I agree that they are busy enough weakening our country.
Our economy is dead. Dead I tell you. But everyone is living a fantasy. I wonder if we will ever fully recognize that fact. We are so much up to our ears in debt we can never repay it. The system has failed because of greedy and foolish people in government, wall-street, and yes the average citizen. Sure we’ve got ’stuff’ but we do not have the wealth to back it up. The rest of the world is finally waking up to that fact. We are not. And it will be a rude awakening.

This isn’t a court of law. It’s the court of public opinion.
When a 40 something old man, says that he allows young boys, unrelated to him, to sleep with him in his bed and that he considers that “normal”, most “normal” people would conclude that he’s likely a child molestor.

Actually, to be more precise, more like America is committing yet another economic self-mutilation, with more, such as Obama/Kevorkian Care, and at some point “Shamnesty” likely to come.
And there is certainly a certain “irony” there as MJ went through a series of surgical self-mutilations and an apparent self-drugging grand finale self-mutilation.
America is now doing a “Michael Jackson” (Life imitates “art”?) on a national scale, so the wall to wall on Michael Jackson is, in a certain sense, quite apropo.

Can you give me a specific time to review your child molester hero’s crimes that’s more convenient for you? If there were a more appropriate time, it would be when the jury was considering keeping this warped psyhco away from any more children.

Charged, never proven.
As Uri Geller has said…
…he hypnotised the late pop star to question him about the child abuse allegations that dogged his final years.
Geller stated that although he knew questioning Jackson under hypnosis was unethical, hearing him deny the accusations while in a trance confirmed innocence in his eyes.

In related news….
“Sources reveal that in compliance with a previously reached settlement, Michael Jackson’s body, being known to be composed of nearly 98% plastic, will be melted down to be used in the production of MJ Legos, so that kids will have the opportunity to play with HIM for a change.”
Sorry, had to go there, my brother texted me that. :)

I knew what you meant ;)
Sadly, you’re still failing in your duties. You must also judge the law to be just before deciding whether it should be applied to the accused.

Well, if some cheap, 3rd-rate sideshow like Geller says he’s innocent…..
LimeyGeek on June 26, 2009 at 2:31 PM
True. But the very real possibiity exists that Jackson was the target of an extortion plot.
Maybe I’m wrong, and he is a molester. But unlike a lot of other people in the world, I refuse to blindly jump to that conclusion.

This cap and trade stuff is a state backed religion or better yet cult. There is no science to back up the idea that excess carbon causes global warming. And no scientific proof that man is causing global warming. This is madness. And we are going to throw $4 tril to the wind(pun intended). Our nation is in serious trouble.
