US won’t use force to inspect NoKo ship

So much for strongly-worded memos. The US has signaled that it will not enforce a UN resolution allowing the interdiction of North Korea’s shipping when suspected of illegal arms traffic. Instead, the US will ask permission to inspect, and retreat when refused:
The United States will not use force to inspect a North Korean ship suspected of carrying banned goods, an American official was quoted as saying Friday.
An American destroyer has been shadowing the North Korean freighter sailing off China’s coast, possibly on its way to Myanmar.
Defense Undersecretary Michele Flournoy met with South Korean officials in Seoul on Friday as the U.S. sought international support for aggressively enforcing a U.N. sanctions resolution aimed at punishing Pyongyang for its second nuclear test last month. The North Korean-flagged ship, Kang Nam 1, is the first to be tracked under the U.N. resolution.
North Korea has in response escalated threats of war, with a slew of harsh rhetoric including warnings that it would unleash a “fire shower of nuclear retaliation” and “wipe out the (U.S.) aggressors” in the event of a conflict.
Let’s get this straight. The Obama administration insists on pursuing the UN path to resolving the dispute with North Korea. It demands — and gets — stronger sanctions to keep North Korea from profiting off of its arms manufacturing, which funds its nuclear program while North Koreans starve. Instead of acting on the resolution, the Obama administration backs away after Kim Jong-Il threatens war over the enforcement of sanctions.
So why did we bother to get the resolution in the first place? If the Obama administration didn’t see that threat coming from miles away, then they are even more clueless than I’d imagined. Instead of Obama looking tough, Kim has shown the world that he can bully the US into retreat at any time. He exposed Obama as a paper tiger.
Kim now knows he can do whatever he wants in the Pacific Rim and suffer no consequences at all. He can sell missiles, proliferate nukes, and the worst that will happen will be the US Navy asking, “Mother, may I?” when it comes to inspections. This, Obama wants us to believe, is “smart power”; in reality, it’s neither. It’s Jimmy Carter-style weakness, and our enemies will derive the obvious lessons from it.
Joe Biden warned that dictators would test Obama early in his presidency to test his mettle. He also warned that Obama’s response would look bad. Biden’s smarter than I thought.

I just had a young man visit me, in my office, who is back from Iraq on a two week furlow. He is a medic, in a Bagdad Hospital Emergency Room.
I asked him how everything was going, if he had been close to any gunfire. He said that the closest it had come was a mortar about 500 yards away. His Dad said, “What about that bullet that hit about a foot from your head?” The soldier said, “Oh ya, there was that too.”
This young man has balls of steel. And his CIC is a PUSS!

Ok. Serious question. The POTUS is a madman and the majority in Congress have lost their minds too. They are doing things that will ultimately hurt this country severely – there’s little doubt.
What happens when the government has been “taken over” by a majority? That’s what’s happened! Our government has been taken over by people who do not want what’s best for our country. They are disregarding the Constitution at every opportunity. Yes, they are the majority but they are making a mockery of most everything we hold sacred. They are over-stepping their bounds.
Someone please tell me what happens next? What has to happen to bring this under control? Do we have to wait until 2010?
Someone please explain.
Thanks!

Now every despot in the world knows all you have to do is make some noise and the US will back down. Sadly, that’s exactly the type of response that results in more misery & bloodshed in the future -for both the people living in oppression and the people who eventually decide its time to do something about it.

For some of the Obama voters him being an empty suited paper tiger is becoming more clear, however most Obama supporters will not face this reality until we are again attacked, yet even after we’re attacked again (and it’s coming) the truly dedicate Obamabots that drank deeply of the fool-aid will never see the truth!

Obama has made some decisions, that when looked at individually, are dubious and show a lack of experience or rational thought at best. But when you put all these decisions together, one cannot come to any other conclusion than this President does not have America’s best interest in mind and I would go so far as to say he is a domestic enemy of the United States. He is doing vast damage financially, doing everything he can to turn this country to socialism, giving terrorists rights they are not entitled to, and weakening, demoralizing our troops and the defenders of this country.
This is the most dangerous time for the human race and our country and he’s playing paddy cake and treating these regimes as if they can be reasoned with. Israel or the US is going to be nuked and Obama is passively letting it happen.

BPD on June 26, 2009 at 3:43 PM
What’s scary is that a lot of the most dedicated Obamabots actually want us to be attacked. Every time we get hit while Willie Whistle is in office is America being “taken down a peg.” They want that. They don’t want us to be strong, they actually want to remake America into a third world hellhole “workers paradise” complete with leader-worship. They’ll say we “had it coming,” blame it on Bush, and secretly (or not-so-secretly) praise the attack and the mayhem that would follow.
My only hope is that when (not if) the attack happens, saner heads will be in Congress and hold this clown accountable.

Remember, when the Iranians invaded our Embassy in Tehran, our dickless, useless, incompetent, wienie of a President back then named Carter, rolled over and quietly whispered to the world, “they can’t do that, we have diplomatic sovereignty on our embassy soil”. The armed militants just did a raspberry in our face and held our compatriots for what, 444 days until Reagan took office? The whole time Carter just sucked his thumb and tried some toothless econominic sanctions and made us look like we had a 1 inch dick to the world.
The same day our embassy was sacked, the “students” also went to sack the Russian Embassy (USSR back then). The leader back then called the Allatoyah and told him that if he wanted Iran to still be on the map, he would call his dogs off. The students left the embassy and focused instead on the US embassy.
Do we have a parallel treatment of an important show of resolution and strength here on the high seas? Is our dickless wonder who is “leading” (excuse me, ruining) our country voting present?

My thoughts on this are Hillary went for the title, and the perceived increase in prestige and power with the SoS title. She saw this as a resume enhancer, and a stepping stone to the presidency. However, Obama created a new cabinet position, filled it with a crony, and has effectively neutered Hillary. The position she saw as a prelude to the next level, will in all likelihood, be her swan song in politics. Before the term is up, I fully expect Obama to force her out.

Thank you Houston. Until we sat there showing impotence to the world, I had hoped Carter was not really the incompetent nincompoop he proved to be. He cured me from EVER voting for a D for President again in my lifetime. Don’t blame me he won, I was raised by union Democrats. Hell, I am the only black sheep in the family, my sister is a rabid pro choice Dem voter. Her husband is a retired union worker. My mom is a retired teacher. They dutifully vote the D every time.
However, I was able to save the next generation. I gave my nephew Neal Boortz’s book, “the 10 lies about liberals” or whatever that book was. My nephew read it and he has been a closet Conservative voter ever since. I am proud of him. He is 26 and bucked the trend of his generation and was not tempted by all the hopey changey rhetoric.
I was deeply, darkly depressed after the election last November for almost a week. Then I tried to convince myself it wouldn’t be as bad as the Carter days. I never believed it would be this much worse. For all of his faults, at least Tip O’Neill didn’t hate America as much as that lunatic Pelosi did and he kept Carter in check, somewhat. I was astonished when the Senate turned in the 1980 election. I never believed I would see an R run chamber in the Capitol in my lifetime. Too bad the RINO boobs ruined it.
I am so mad at the squishy R’s that cost us the Congress. I blame them almost as much as I blame Obama for this mess we are in today.

Announce to the world that America should be notified by telephone if there is any ship on the high seas that would permit an inspection by our Navy. When somebody calls, we can go to inspect. Until then, our ships can save fuel by staying in port.
