AOL Hot Seat Poll: Do you support cap-and-trade?
posted at 3:10 pm on June 26, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

I was going to call it cap-and-tax, but then thought that might be too much of a tell. While AOL only went with one “No” option, I’m glad they took my suggestion and offered two reasons for “Yes”, as I’d like to see how each option plays in the individual states. I suspect we’ll see a lot of “No”, and I suspect we’ll see more about global warming on the coasts and more about oil in the interior states.
Don’t forget to keep calling Congresscritters all day — Michelle’s liveblogging the debate and has the contact info. Call the Senate, too, although there looks to be a decent chance that this will fail in the House.

Yes, let’s let our government tax us into oblivion so that we can alter a fraction of a percent of the total carbon output in the world when we’re not even 100% sure that that will have a significant effect on “climate change.” That sounds brilliant.
BUT WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING NOW!!!! THE SCIENCE IS SETTLED!!! HEY LOOK OVER THERE!!!
TheUnrepentantGeek on June 26, 2009 at 3:16 PM
You also need an option that says “Yes – and may I also have a blunt stick in the eye, please.”

Just let them know if they vote for cap and trade you will donate money to their primary challenger and if that does not work their opponent in the general election regardless of party. You will spend your money to make sure they do not return to Congress.
That gets their attention.

Hell no.
The one and only time I believed Obama was telling the truth was during the campaign on the You Tube (did it fall into the memory hole?) when he as much as promised that cap and trade was going to make our utility bills SKYROCKET..
What about the term SKYROCKET don’t people understand?

That was both descriptive and horrifying. Good job!

Maybe “societal change” is a bad term, put taxing something as natural as CO2 to “improve” out climate is a major change. Prior legislation was mostly, if not always, focused on stopping the introduction of foreign particles in a source (e.g., air, water, etc.).
Whew! You are really going back in time for “jump the shark” moment. No problem with a federal government with those restraints, but I would be dancing in the streets if we could get back to -pre-wilsonian\progressive movement.

Global warming might kill me, this I know,
Though my thermostat is turned down, oh so low.
Though my lights are all set on dim,
Still Lord Al bids me to scrimp more for Him.
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
The Goracle tells me so.
Though my Honda is oh so slow,
With my mind in his hands I’ll go.
On through life, to others let come what may,
He’ll be fling in a private jet going His Lordly way.
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
The Goracle tells me so.
Though I am no longer young,
I have learned so much which He’s begun.
Let me live in a cave like my ancestors did for The Goracle with a smile,
Go with Him the extra carbon credit pile.
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
The Goracle tells me so.
When the days are hot and long,
In my mind He puts a song.
Telling me in words so clear,
“Let Me be clear, I am The Goracle that you must hear.”
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
The Goracle tells me so.
When His work in America is done,
And His bank accounts weigh a ton.
He will take my roof above,
Then I’ll understand all about His love.
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
The Goracle tells me so.
I praise The Goracle, does he know?
Have I ever told Him so?
The Goracle loves to hear me say,
That I will buy His carbon credits every day.
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
Yes, Global warming might kill me!
The Goracle tells me so.

Keep your laws off my body!
(CO2 is a naturally occuring gas I expel from my lungs every few seconds. Why does the governemnt think it can regulate my body in this way? Do I not have resperation rights? Am I not a
woman whose body has been to long controled by religious zealots who think they know what is best for me and my CO2?)Aquateen Hungerforce on June 26, 2009 at 3:56 PM
Heres my question.
How much landmass does a wind farm or solar farm need to produce the same ammount of energy as a Nuk. plant.
Hrydro uses an enormous amount of land. humdreds of acres per KW.
Rick007 on June 26, 2009 at 3:57 PM
That Gore-pic on the front page is awesome.
peski on June 26, 2009 at 4:01 PM
By making carbon a major revenue source for the government, this will kill any hope of alternative sources of energy. Government officials will find any excuse to tangle up windmills or nuclear plants, because those will be like taking food from their mouths.
pedestrian on June 26, 2009 at 4:01 PM
pre-wilsonian government would be a mixed bag, but thats another discussion entirely. as for cap and trade, isnt all pollution, even if it doesnt cause global warming, worth putting a price on?
ernesto on June 26, 2009 at 4:08 PM
Heres another question.
Where do we get the water to grow all the corn the Goracal wants to use for E85?
We need the water to provide hydro power?
Cal is drying up.
Answer to all my questions is Go all Nuk.and Nat.Gas.
1.It will produce millions of jobs in construction and when the plants are finished.
2.It will get us off of alot of foreign oil.
People in Congress get your heads out it’s not only dark up there it also smells.
Rick007 on June 26, 2009 at 4:11 PM

Which Alinsky Rule is about creating chaos? Every day it’s a new bill, a different policy framed in apocalyptic terms. “We must do this or we are doomed!”
I must admit, that I am getting somewhat fatigued by all this insanity. I don’t see how it can continue for 3 1/2 more years. It’s crazy.

la.rt.wngr on June 26, 2009 at 4:16 PM
Doesn’t this tax on CO2 run perpendicular to Right to Life. If we naturally produce this gas in our cycle of life..doesn’t it make it unconstitutional to try and tax it.
Next we’re gonna have sensors up our arse and Boston Banned Baked Beans.

There weree some backroom deals by the Dem “enforcers,” offering ethanol “sweeteners” into the bill in order to twist the arms of holdouts in the Midwest/farmbelt states. I hope that these holdouts were smart enough to see the bigger damage this bill would do to our economy.

Laura in Maryland on June 26, 2009 at 4:59 PM
Ethanol only makes things worse. It takes almost as much fossil fuel energy to make ethanol is obtained from ethanol, so this ends up doubling CO2 emissions relative to simply burning gasoline. Plus, the food value of the corn is lost. Ever try drinking gasoline?
Steve Z on June 26, 2009 at 5:00 PM
Al Gore lives in a section of Nashville called Belle Meade. Those who know him for years have never doubted his intentions, but we have aways doubted his sanity. He removes all doubt that liberalism is a progressive mental disorder and if he adamently supports cap & trade then it has to be destructive to our economy.
